I just had this one idea, I don't think anything will come of it, but I was just wondering: What would the Glee universe be like if it had the same plot, but all the genders were reversed?

Would some of the unusual relationships we want work if ther genders were flipped?

Would Will have still made New Directions if he were a woman and Terri were a man?

Would the plot have gone the same way it went on the show, even if all the genders were switched?

Can I have your opinions and guesses on this?

I feel like if Glee were genderswapped, Rachel and Kurt would pretty much switch places, also, there would be some major Mister Seahorse going on with Quinn...

Finn and Britney would probably also switch places. Santana and Karofsky as well...

Actually I think this is a pretty gender-equal show.

Glee would not be the same gender-swapped— waaaaay too many situtations where characters must be men or women for them to work. For example, the Terri pregnancy plot would be... I'm trying to think of a stronger word for impossible.

But, let's think on it a moment. The Will/Terri pregnancy plot wouldn't work the same way... the only way to keep the drama alive for more than two episodes would be for Wilma to get pregnant, and have the baby, so she and Terry stay together during the pregnancy. That doesn't solve their marriage problems and they keep being unhappy, except there's also a baby to deal with. Wilma has an emotional affair with Emmet, the loveable OCD-suffering school counselor; they still have their will-they-won't-they plot, but there's no longer the "father abandoning his child" aspect that drove that subplot.

Wilma would eventually leave the abusive Terry (who isn't physically abusive, but crushes his wife's moral to the point where she can't take it), force him out of the apartment, and Wilma tries to make it work with Emmet, but he's too crazy to really rely on and she has a baby to raise. So that's the Will plot for season 1, brainstormed off the top of my head.

Oh, random, horrible thought, to tie closer to the original series— Terry is sterile, and fears Wilma will leave, so he goes to a sperm bank, gets some sperm, and somehow impregnates Wilma with someone else's sperm (Puck's???). Finding out is the incident where Wilma gets fed up and finally kicks Terry out.

The kids: Ho-boy. Give me a little longer. Them kids is craaaaaaaazy.

Okay, after a full ten minutes of this, I realized it was impossible. The closest I got was "Richard" being a male Broadway music lover teased for being gay even though he wasn't (which is basically Kurt's canon plot, minus the balls of actually having the character be gay); the Finn/Quinn/Puck pregnancy plot results in Quentin impregnating both Fina and Noreen "Puck" Puckerman, but Puck doesn't let it slip because... ? Fina and Richard have a thing, but Fina thinks Richard is gay, and Richard wants to help Fina but can't get over how much stronger and bigger and more masculine and better Quentin is.

I think I'd make Kurt "Chris" (Christina), a transgender character, just so his arc wouldn't be a complete rehash of "Richard"'s. Waifish Chris has a Boisterous Bruiser best friend, Royce, who has a great gospel voice. There's Tim and Amy, who are largely unchanged. Santana and Brittany are jocks but maintain the same personalities.

Basically, I could make changes, and they would take the story to new, interesting places, but it would be a totally different beast than the actual Glee.

How about Harry Potter? I'm not talking The Girl Who Lived-style "Hary is a girl" universe. I'm talking "Every gendered character is gender-inversed".

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...

Yes. Some people do not try and tirelessly push a thread over and over again.
