It’s just that the image doesn't show anything sad. It just shows a character crying, which doesn't explain the moment out-of-context. It has a similar problem to the image it’s trying to replace.
To be fair, I wanted to include a screenshot of a moment that actually is from the Tear Jerker page (current's moment is only in Heartwarming). If anything, here is an alternate suggestion.

I mean, the image of TMNT 2012's tearjerker page has a similar image to my alternate suggestion.

I think OP’s an improvement over the current because of the gentle hand-on-face pose; it adds more emotional weight, even if the tears are a bit less obvious.
