It would be less awkward if the pages could be indexed, but YMMV pages lack them for some reason and trivia pages auto-index.

I don't think merging them is a good idea for usability reasons. If I see a specific episode, sometimes I like to check out the YMMV to look for things I missed (I.e. Genius Bonus) or just see other opinions. If I check the YMMV page for the show, I'm expecting general opinions that don't apply to specific episodes — because if you haven't seen the episodes in question, it's kind of useless.

The problem isn't that recaps have subpages, it's that certain things *coughBrokenBasecough* keep sneaking onto said subpages.

I have said this before but I think the types of shows that benefit the most from those being allowed are anthology type works. There is probably a benefit to episode only subpages even if not (eg maybe the fandom has Opinions on a oneshot character and the ymmv page is already very long).
I do agree misuse and other bad examples (too recent etc) get sneaked on so maybe it is just another whackamole type cleanup situation.

For some long shows I see that every of the 50 episode pages have their own Trivia/, YMMV/, Quotes/, ImageLinks/ subpages. Last time it was asked, it was "technically allowed".
But, is there a point to them? Unless the work's main Trivia/ or YMMV/ are too-long, this only makes it inconvenient to search for examples across the page bloat. Maybe it's fine to merge the subpages?
