While it's been three days since the crowner was hooked according to the timestamp, since the ATT bulletin was only posted yesterday, I might hold off on calling it.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

@WarJay77 & number9robotic: I agree it shouldn't be hating the character in the source material, and accept the reasoning for disallowing non-OC fanwork examples

I still have questions about such.

  • The Conversion Bureau: The Other Side of the Spectrum: Due to the increasing hostility between the lead author, Redskin, and the co-authors in the later chapters of the story, the co-authors had grown to hate the lead human character, Marcus Renee, especially DoctorFluffy and JedR. It got even worse due to his abrasive personality, as well as how the narrative kept glossing over his flaws, but the moment that Marcus reached the point of no return for them was when the lead author intended to have Marcus kill a pregnant woman and face no consequences for it. It was because of this that when the team decided to cut ties with Redskin and reboot the story into Spectrum, they decided to have Marcus Adapted Out and replaced him with the Suspiciously Similar Substitute Alexander Reiner, who had most of Marcus’ worst traits toned down.

  1. If this was about the handling of canon characters as opposed to their OC (which this fic has examples of), would that change enough to make it not counting come off as non-arbitrary?
  2. Is Marcus not an example as he's not hated by his creator, but co-writers who were able to stop and remove the character once they wanted (the same creative freedom disqualifying non-OCs)?

If yes on the latter, maybe Creator's Pest should disallow any fanwork examples (OC or otherwise) as disliking their own characters is a better fit/redundant with Creator Backlash or Troubled Production?

Calling the crowner in favor of forbidding Creator's Pest examples involving creators of fanworks expressing a dislike of working with a character who originated from the source work, and keeping the paragraph with "this does not apply to creators disliking characters from other works" in the description.

So, is there anything to do? It seems we aren't making any changes.

I'll clock the thread to see if anyone else has any feedback, though this may just be a job for Short-Term Projects if we're not changing anything (aside from if the description needs to be clarified, which also isn't a job for TRS if we aren't changing the definition).

Should we removed licensed work examples of creators removing/changing characters they don't like from source material as opposed to disliking working with them in their works?

[up]Licensed derivative works are allowed (adaptations that don't have the character Adapted Out are one example cited in the description). It's fan works that are forbidden.

Trope Repair Shop: Creator's Pest

Crown Description:

Creators Pest allows examples of creators of derivative works (fanfiction, etc.) disliking characters from the source work. There is a question of whether this item should be limited to only characters that the creator created, or working with characters created by someone else is permitted.
