Abigail (2024 vampire movie)

Radio Silence has revealed their next film and it’s a vampire movie with Melissa Barrera, Giancarlo Esposito, Kathryn Newton, and Dan Stevens. The plot is about a gang of kidnappers who nab the little girl of a criminal kingpin, only to find out she’s a vampire.

So I know the song that plays at the start is from Swan Lake… but what is it called? And the funeral dirge at the end is Taps, right?

SOLD on Melissa Barrera and Kathryn Newton alone, but brilliant concept though. Hoping the former is helped not only by a film she's in coming out in the thick of the drama, but by the fact that Radio Silence is involved in this movie too.

Wonder if her dad Will turn out to be a famous vampire. You know like Dracula, orlok, Varney or lord ruthven.

Working title was Dracula's Daughter, for what it's worth.

Yeah i kinda figured it was him.

I am kind of hoping that it is connected to Renfield, just to get Nicholas Cage as Dracula again even if it doesn't make sense.

Ngl this seems kinda stupid. I Mean kidnapping the daughter of a powerful crime lord is a really badly thought out plan even without vampires.

The trailer establishes that only one person knows who she is when she's kidnapped.

The actual kidnappers are just muscle, really.

I wouldn't be surprised if Giancarlo Esposito turns out to be her father aka Dracula and this is just him training his daughter.

The trailer seems like the setup is them all trying to kill Abigail and then instead the group is quickly whittled down to a small few having to take out the rest of the vampires—or they also give Abigail the Hannibal Lecter treatment in that she'd be an Anti-Villain with a strong moral code.

While I haven't seen Renfield yet, I do know about the plot element related to Dracula teaming up with a crime family of all things. Seems like an odd choice admittedly. This at least sounds like it's gonna embrace something along the lines of that though while also totally shifting away from it.

There's clearly a story with Melissa Barrera's character given she has/had a young son and thus can relate to Abigail because of that.

This looks like it could be a fun slasher, essentially! ^_^

As to the kidnappers... my read, based on the trailer, was that Giancarlo Esposito is setting them up to be food and/or playthings for Abigail. Note that he leaves immediately, and that the doorway seems to be barred when the kidnappers attempt to leave.

That is, they were never intended to make some big score; they were intended to make a big meal.

I didn't see indication of other vampires, offhand. What did you see that prompted that impression? Did I miss something?

I mean if any of them end up getting turned rather than eaten. That could be the case. You never know. Haha.

Ah, I see! I suppose that that's possible, indeed!

Be interested to see how they depict the characters. They gonna be likable people you want to see make it through or bad people you look forward to seeing die? A mix of both seems the right way to go—especially since they're likely building Melissa Barrera's character up as having a tragic/sympathetic backstory.

In regards to the possibility of other vampires, there is a shot towards the end of the trailer of Kathryn Newton's character looking like she's been turned. Though of course trailers can be misleading.

Wouldn't be surprised if Melissa Barrera is a vampire by the end of the movie who's gonna be a vigilante dueling out Justice. Haha.

She's looking like she's gonna be the Anti-Villain. I could be totally mistaken though.

It might depend on if they go with "child who is a vampire" or "vampire who looks like a child."

Other people have said it, and I'm also leaning towards Giancarlo's character setting this up for them to purposefully get killed by Abigail.

If the trailer didn't have a mysteriously super-locked door and prepared-in-advance wall panels that slide over the windows, which the characters seem to have not been aware were going to be here, then it might be ambiguous.

But as it is, this was clearly a trap. Those sorts of things don't just happen by coincidence.

The concept of being immortalized as a minor has always seemed crazy and somewhat sad to me.

The simple idea that you will never grow up, nor will you ever be able to have a loving relationship without it being weird.

@Arthur I agree that he planned it. Question then is: is Abigail in on it with him?

I don't generally like to speculate, but...probably.

Just going by the "play with my food" comment.
