Updated the build. Yes, it even curbstomps the final fight at the end of the post game mission (like it curb stomped Galerius, Baltro, Amalia, and Gerad.

Feel free to steal this build for yourselves, spread it to other forums…and label “Fairy Lock” as a Game-Breaker for its proven ability to absolutely snap PVE in two the instant Rosalinde hits level 30. I’m currently trying to test PVP viability as well by looking for Trinity Rain builds to fight.

This is build is highly effective because it is a lock down build. Being able to field nuke is just a cherry on top.

Alain: Holy Unicorn Blade, Chivalric Shield+, Ring of the Unicorn (yes, I had this before entering Act 4), Sapphire Pendant.

Scarlette: Lyrical Wand+ (considering swapping with Purifier+ as a counter measure against start of battle initiative debuffs), Frostbrand Tome (most important part of the entire build, Sapphire Pendant, Scarlette’s Ribbon (considering swapping with Ruby Pendant if Purifier gets used).

Rosalinde: King Spear+, Ring of the Maiden (this build is significantly more effective if you choose her as the maiden), Ruby Pendant, Raven or Angel Plume (this build requires her to be the fastest character in the battle). Rage of the Fairies MUST be set to Prioritize Back Row. This alpha strikes the characters that can undo the lock down.

Rolf: Kingsbow, Owl Showl (counters buffs, especially ones that could counter the lock down), Ruby Pendant, Sapphire Pendant. His main role is countering flyers and scouts.

Oclyss: Heavensword+ (fevrite REALLY gets extra milage out of this blade), Heavenswing Shield+, Lucky Coin, Ruby Pendant iirc. Her main role is as a 2nd tank and anti caster unit. Set all of her attacks to prioritize back row.

The rapport bonuses in the squad when maxed out give large bonuses to accuracy and evasion. When Rosalinde already has an A rank in evasion.

-Edit: Encountered a team with 2 casters and Hastened Action. Likely a Trinty Rain team. Gave it a nice Curb-Stomp Battle.

The version 1.04 update has added some new fixes, changes and content. Most noteworthy are classes that equip multiple swords or shields now have half of the attack/defense stat (and guard rate) from the lower weapon added to their total. E.g. Sword 1 = 20 atk, Sword 2 =18atk, then total atk = 29.

Also the post game quest is replayable and there are new post game battles involving Amalia

They figured the Bonus Boss was a tad too easy huh.

Gonna be testing Fairie Lock against the new fights.

After losing a battle to RNG, I adjusted some tactics. Namely set dispel to prioritize caster and prioritize archer. This build can now consistently win against Glacial Rain in PVP. Or at least stand on its own against it.

I think I may have created a new meta tyrant.

Rage Of the Fairies -> Frostbrand Tome + Elemental Roar definitely deserves its own spot under Game-Breaker. Simple yet brutally effective lockdown build that merely demands that the player has a mastery of the game’s tactics programing. Gives many of the game’s most difficult fights a Curb-Stomp Battle and can hold ita own against the top PVP builds.

Adding in some two cents here.

We got a lot of misinfo regarding Scrappy Mechanic.

1. Several classes gain significant changes upon promotion. Arbalists get great shields, which add in some extra nuance to the class. Sellswords gain shields when promoted, which offers a boost in durability. Sword Fighter and Crusader get extra sword/shield when promoted.

2. One class ie Dark Knights go from garbage to geniunely terrifying enemies to fight against (ones that can TPK if you have the wrong squad comp). The game’s definitive Magikarp Power class.

3. The non human classes are basically hand waved as having stats equivilant to a promoted class. Justified because you see them around the time you start promoting

If anything, either the honors cost for promotion or final squad upgrade should have been cheaper.

Game’s cap is level 50.

Results of the fight using my “Fairie Lock” comp. The one listed under the game’s Game-Breaker examples.

Bastorias Snu Snu Ghost received a Curb-Stomp Battle. Died before using Heavens Asunder+Inner Balance.

Initial Snu Snu Ghost and all other Snu Snu Ghosts: Result was the same. Everyone but Rosalinde and Alain die (purely from Heavens Asunder), entire enemy squad gets wiped. Alain tanks the attack and survives with moderate damage.

This despite Snu Snu Ghost being the only enemy in the game with Contractual Boss Immunity to BOTH stun and freeze.

Fairie Lock can now be considered to be amongst the most powerful PVE comps in the game.

How does Fan-Preferred Couple interact with Alain parings?

Do all non default options count or do only dark horses count? This is related to scouting trends on Reddit.

Doesn't apply at all to Alain. A fan preferred couple is a coupling that the fans like that the source material doesn't support. Lex and Chloe is a fan preferred couple, for example.

I would love for them to release info about which characters got Maiden Ring'd at what percentages.

I mean, if it’s explicitly a Platonic Life-Partners thing, maybe it would be? Though it seems the majority of people will gravitate towards those he is romantic with…

Does anyone know how much the localisation might have tampered with this (or not)? For both the Gay Option fans and those of us that wanted a heterosexual romance that’s not actually a romance? I know some wanted Hilda for instance, or Ramona; me, I’m steamed that Tatiana appears to have not got the full Foe Romantic Subtext treatment with Alain, and if I was putting him with an angel I’d rather Raenys or Umerus (although I suppose you could read a threesome with Scarlett there into the former? The latter, I don’t recall).

Not that the ones we did get are bad, there’s certainly options: I rather like Ridiel for elves, Liza for Drakenhold, Nina for a Tsundere… Too bad Eltolinde’s design isn’t quite as good as her sister (yeah, I went there), because I adore her character both in the Alain rapports and elsewhere. And Chloe is such a great Victorious Childhood Friend that poor Scarlett can’t compare!

Unrelated thing: with all the scene variations, it’s a right shame that Virginia’s input in “Blooming Rose on Bare Rock” and… whatever that one where you need to save the stubborn Drakenhold idiots is called, isn’t adjusted; I think both missions work well as they are, but only for when you do each one before the other. See, Ginny noting their rashness without being called out on her hypocrisy works if she hasn’t already gunned for Giethe; we could’ve had her say something like, “I know I’m not the best person to say this, but from experience…” if you’d had her humbled first. Similarly, if you finished that one before BROBR, her calling for a march could be acknowledged afterwards as her not following her own advice… It’s not the biggest thing to stress over, but when they programmed so many possibilities — like getting Gloucester after Aramis’ identity as Ludwig was revealed, or even Gammel being able to recruit Mandrin if you got him in Elheim before helping Ochlys and Sharon — you notice the oversights here and there.

That fan art has some major Kingdom Hearts vibes.

There is no Gay Option in either the Japanese or Western versions. Giving the ring to a dude narrative wise is depicted as choosing a right hand man. The changes vi localization are quite tame. Just more flowery language. Probably some shakespeare inspiration there.

Reddit does have some trends worth noting.

The top 8 choices seem to be Rosalinde (by a significant margin), Virginia (mainly for them Sweet Home Alabama jokes), Scarlette (Base Breaker not for the character but for the romance route), Melisandre, Etolinde, Yahna, Berengaria, Yunifie.

Basically, its a combination of Rosalinde being ballsy enough to initiate (her running to the altar is seen as really cute), her character design, friendly neighborhood trolling, being a Nice Girl, badass gameplay, and her romance arc being really well written that won people over.

The decision to actually bring up how immortality can really SUCK for the kind hearted (and the implied perspective change the elves make to “appreciate and treasure the time you have with your short lived loved ones” in the route specific epilogue) was well liked too. Well done Decon-Recon Switch of Mayfly–December Romance. To be honest, I suspect one of the devs saw Maquia When the Promised Flower Blooms and cribed some notes since the mature nuanced take this game takes on the issue of immortality is very similar to Maquia’s final perspective change. Seriously, watch that movie, it is one of the hidden gems of 2018.

The utilitarian crowd also seem to favor the sisters. As in those thinking about the long term geo political aspects of the lore, what would be best for Feverith in terms of the greater good, etc.

NGL I kind of feel like a reddit thread is completely useless, seeing as the sample source is "People that go on Reddit to talk about Unicorn Overlord". It's a good sampling of the hardcore fans perhaps.

Oh, good; that means I don’t have to agree even remotely with the chuds that have been having at this game’s localisation… and Eiyuden’s… and that of TriStrat… and so on.

Sweet.

On the other hand, it also means I’m allowed to rag on the whole team for not taking the romance of… what, 10-20% of the females? Right to that level. Like Tatiana, my beloved. Or the weirdly-unromantic angle of both with Umerus and Raenys aka: the Angel characters that I actually would romance but from what I know are more platonic… Unlike Ochlys, who along with Sharon are strangely shippable with Alain; granted, I do like the latter as an option (more than Primm), but I also like her with Bruno, but I don’t personally see the appeal of the former’s personality (she took Mandrin’s non-murderous blasphemy WAY too seriously!)

Also, Berenice (I think she’s also platonic…?) Plus, I’m advocating for everyone who actually wanted to marry Hilda and/or Ramona; I don’t personally mind that they’re platonic but I know some folks were gutted by it. Can’t think of any others off the top of my head, but you get the idea.

I notice a general trend across multiple threads of Rosalinde being the favorite to put the ring on. She’s become a Breakout Character to the fandom in terms of popularity in general. Being a unique take on dark elves helps her case.

On a personal level, I suspect on a gameplay level putting the ring on her or Yunifie is one of the nastier applications of the ring. Berengaria is a good choice gameplay wise, but if you do, you’re better place placing her in a seperate squad since she’s best built as a Blood Death Knight style tank via the Blood Moon Earrings.

Among the Heterosexual Life-Partners choices, Travis and Aramis are the most popular.

As some one who dislikes unfaithful localizations, I find this one pretty tame. If the worst a game does is flowery language to be in the spirit if the era, aint no skin off my back. WAY better than the aholes that gut the script for their own agendas. That’s just unprofessional.

Yeah, I’m just wary of when everything gets criticised to hell and back; a lot of them aren’t in good faith, and you can tell whrn it’s them if the most minuscule change is enough for them to slam it… and rant about “wokeness” or “identity politics”, terms they fit barely understand if they aren’t just appropriating them.

Not that there aren’t messy translations, or even ones which were changed drastically on purpose (often by people who probably didn’t engage with a story on its own terms). But this ain’t one of them, and if anything I’d prefer they not omit or add romances anyway; even if doing so wasn’t messy business, this isn’t even a game in which the content is offensive in any pronounced way… If it was (like, the story was arguing in favour of something abominable), it probably wouldn’t even be worth our time but it’s not doing that.

It’s an excellent game, and the story while not groundbreaking is quite enjoyable; VW set out to make an experience with likeable characters, an in-depth setting and lore, and nothing too complicated but still entertaining. And there’s nothing wrong with filling in the gaps; we used to do that back when titles were all this minimalist.
