Calling in favor of lowering the threshold for what counts as starving (per Wick) for Advertising Tropes to the threshold currently used for newer tropes (0-11).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

What should we make of the Paused Interrupt OP over at the TRS Queue? Amathieu 13 said it was "barely above starving" but now it's well above starving.

Is this the correct thread for that question? Paused Interrupt isn't an advertising trope...

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.

[up] …And I should have read the queue first. Apologies. Will thump my post — sorry Amathieu.

[up] So after looking back at the meta thread, I found that this whole thing can be traced back to when you found that Toy Commercial had (and in fact still has) only 7 wicks...and yet you have not yet taken it to TRS. With only 7 wicks, this trope is not affected by the recent threshold reduction.

[up] Mm. Good point. I’ll queue it up later when I get a chance.

EDIT: And done. I have issues with whether or not we even need a dedicated Toy Commercial page anyway so I mentioned that as well.

This thread fulfilled its purpose several days ago when the decision was finalized, so if there's a problem with a TRS Queue entry, take it to the TRS meta thread. Locking this thread as resolved.

Wiki Talk: Advertising Tropes
19th May '23 4:07:23 AM

Crown Description:

It has been noted over several separate discussions that Advertising Tropes tend to have low wick counts. This is due to several factors, with a major one being that they are hard to crosswick—many individual ads lack/cannot easily have pages on the site.

This has created an interesting conundrum, however, as it applies to TRS—per Administrivia.Wick, a trope with 0-23 examples (or 0-11 if a newer trope) is considered starving, making them instant Not Thriving candidates. And since Advertising Tropes are (as mentioned) harder to crosswick and gain examples for, more often than not many perfectly legitimate Advertising Tropes end up getting cut in the process. (A counter-argument is that such tropes tend to also be Zero Context Example magnets.)

Should we lower the threshold for what's considered a healthy trope if said trope happens to be an Advertising Trope, and if so, how should the health of Advertising Tropes be measured?
