Cleanup Thread: DragonBall Character Pages

I'm noticing some of the pages on Dragon Ball are vaguely defined and organised by little more than order of appearance. To specify:

  • Supporting Cast: Stated to be a page for characters that appeared in the initial Dragon Ball series, but most if not all of these characters have appeared in the subsequent series.
  • DBZ/GT Supporting Cast: Some of the non-human characters like King Kai, Kaioshin and Old Kai have made enough appearances to be bumped up to Major Supporting Cast.
  • Other Characters: Advertised as characters who have no origin in the original manga, but does list a few alien races that do exist in the manga. Additionally, the page has characters from Dragon Ball Super and the Other section has numerous Earthlings that haven't been filed under that heading for reasons unknown. Repurposed as of June 25

My proposal is that we reorganise the characters on these three pages, plus the ones on Major Supporting Cast into the specific factions they belong to. Here's an outline of how they could be reorganised:

  • Families, Friends & Allies note

  • Earthlings (For characters introduced before Dragonball Super) note

  • Extraterrestrials note
    • Saiyans note
      • Bardock/Burdocknote
    • Namekians and Dragons note

  • Other World note

Anyway, I'm open to ideas or improvements.

I think it looks good. My only idea is moving the dragons from the namekian page to possibly the others page. While they created the dragon balls, they aren’t mutually exclusive.

It's gonna be fun on the bun!

That sounds like a good idea in my opinion

Yeah I'm all for it.

Z/GT Supporting Characters .etc pages were from very archaic days of the site, and then Super came along and a more modern characterization style was brought in without changing the old stuff.

Definitely support this more neutral SEO format you have here.

While we're at it, can we get rid of that folder thing that hides the navigation index? I never really liked that thing and nowhere else on the site does that.

[up]From what I can gather, the character index was put into a folder because its massive size filled up the entire screen. If we were to remove the folder, we should probably trim the index down to the most relevant links, much like how the Marvel Cinematic Universe handles its character pages.

Hm, maybe it has too many rows. More page links could fit together to shrink the height.

Splitting the Dragon Ball Families Friends & Allies sandbox:

Also, there are four Super-era character folders on the Dragon Ball Others page that should be moved to the Dragon Ball Multiversal Characters page, plus a folder on the Cerealians that can be moved to Universe 7.

I'm actually thinking, maybe Universe 7 page should only be for characters outside Earth, since there's so many Earthling character pages, it would be weird to go to Universe 7 to look for them.

That seems good. How do you want to handle the antagonist pages ?

[up][up]I thought about doing that, but as Super follows the manga and Kai adaptations it means the characters from filler and GT are a bit out of place.

Can just add a section saying "Characters introduced in Super" or something. Kai doesn't deviate that much from Z, with Super even acknowledging Z several times with Z flashbacks included (they mentioned the Goku Piccolo drivers license filler in the latest movie)

You've also got guys like Barry Kahn who technically already existed in the Z manga, even if he only appears in person in Super.

For the time being I'm leaving Barry Kahn on the DBS Villains page, since that's where his characterization seems to have settled. For Universe 7, it just makes more sense to include characters who debuted when the multiverse was established.

If I'll be honest, Universe 7 even having a page was baffling to me, considering everything prior to Champa showing up took place in Universe 7. With other franchises that have multiverses, we don't generally include a page for the home universe since there's a hundred other pages already covering it. But it's especially jarring for two Earthlings to be listed.

Re. Jiren's page:

Does anyone else find it a bit out of place that it includes an image of his childhood self? I know it's common to have child and adult images for each character, but with the exception of Jiren they've all grown up over the course of the series, which means a single image isn't enough to sum up their characters. Jiren meanwhile only has his childhood explored through flashbacks.

A similar example would be Vegeta, who repeatedly appears as a child but only in memories and his page doesn't have an image for his childhood self.
