The year is 2292. The Sol System, the cradle of humanity, drifts through the stars, a far cry different from the world of ages ago. Mars and Jupiter, the victors of a fierce rebellion against the former authoritarian Planet-State of Terra, live in a time of uneasy peace, working on rising out of the ashes of war and the growing pains of independence, but filled with hope for the future. Earth remains a living, breathing world just barely, humanity's home faded from years of ecological neglect and the crashing forces of war, both past and current, and the destruction of its old space elevator in the dying days of the Rebellion, but not forgotten. Space colonies dot the further planets, small communities in the backwaters. And beyond the system, humanity remains increasingly disconnected with their ancestral homelands, instead reaching outwards to the stars and carving their own place among it, outgrowing their nest.

The Volaska Cell, a revolutionary engine that produces an endless amount of clean energy, lights the way for a double-edged future. With the applications of peace in solving the crisis of pollution (though almost too late for Earth) also comes the applications for war. Almost all modern armoured vehicles, ships and aircraft are powered by the Cell, and the walking behemoths that are known as Mechanized Troopers or simply "mechs" embody a new era of warfare. With weapons, systems, mobility and controls that most vehicles can only dream of, these humanoid weapons need only a single pilot in order to be an incredible force on the battlefront, though they are nowhere near invincible.

A frame of metal encompassed by armour and powered through a derivative of the material known as "synthfibre", known as "neurofiber", allows a pilot to partially integrate their thoughts with their mech, allowing partial control of it with their thoughts through brainwave resonance with the energy released from the Cell. On land, they are uncontested, and though fighters remain the prime choice for space combat, Mechanized Troopers make up for their deficiency with versatility.

And now, with Earth's political landscape thrown into chaos with the fall of the old regime, they see more use than ever before by mercenaries and warlords looking to forge a name or stake for themselves in the vacuum. One such new company are the Angels of Charon, formed by veteran pilot Marius Serre. You are one of his new hires, promised a generous salary and benefits. You've made something of a name for yourself up until now, enough to be considered experienced. But this promises to be a cut above basic freelancer work.''

It's time to get in the big leagues, and maybe enter the halls of history.

Hello, I'm Undying Phoenix (but you probably already knew that) and welcome to Wings of Tomorrow, a Real Robot mecha RP inspired by such things as Gundam and Armored Core. I had an older RP with the same name, but this is disconnected from that, probably. Your character is a mech pilot, seasoned enough to have a customized version of a mass production model to call their own, recently hired to be part of a new mercenary company known as the Angels of Charon. While this is a Real Robot inspired RP, this is a future imagined with hope and some idealism, despite all the difficulties and darkness it faces. With this bit out of the way, onto the primers and sheets!

    Primer: Terminology

  • Resonator: A human whose brainwaves naturally resonate at a similar frequency to the energy released from a Volaska Cell, giving them a keen awareness of its presence and a degree of better responsiveness and stronger feedback from it. In sufficient numbers and with a large amount of Volaska Energy, Resonators are capable of inducing physical phenomena in space.

  • Volaska Tunnel Gates: These giant colonies built at the edge of a solar system serve as FTL gateways between themselves and others. Staffed by a mostly live-in crew of administrative staff, Resonators and others, these Gates throw ships across the vast reaches of space using the physical phenomena induced by Resonators channeling a large amount of Volaska Energy. The Gates also function as spaceports, filled with people awaiting their jump.

  • Synthfibre: A fibrous material that's nearly as conductive as silver, used for heavy duty wiring like that found in mechs. A derivative, neurofiber, allows the brainwave-esque nature of Volaska Cells to be taken advantage of.

  • Volaska Cell/Engine/Battery/etc: A reactor that can output an endless amount of energy. Though the output is infinite, it has limits to what it can put out at any singular moment, or it would risk a meltdown from the heat. When breached, it's rendered mostly inert, preventing a massive explosion.
    Primer: The Sol System

Within the Sol System, there are 3 major centers of habitation, as follows.

  • Earth:In the wake of expansion into space around the start of the 22nd century and with the Volaska Cell being a case of being just a little too late to solve the environmental degradation from a couple centuries of pollution, Earth has become but a pale shadow of what it once was. Life still grows here, and governments still exist, but it's generally accepted that what once was a cradle is now a dilapidated family home, populated by those either too stubborn or unable to leave. Mother Earth's children have left the nest and made their own homes, by negotiation or strength of arms.

    • But, in its post-prime days, there is still some opportunity. With the downfall of the Planet-State of Terra after the Jovian-Martian Rebellion, the resulting power vacuum leaves prime enterprise opportunities for upstart mercenary companies to make a name for themselves, and many of today's major companies indeed started on Earth as the meager ambitions of desperate businessmen taking advantage of cheap land and the incentives of would-be new nations for people to provide manpower and influence. The natural beauty of Earth also serves as something that remains one-of-a-kind in the system, with the only other planets of similar wilderness being amongst other stars, and thus still remains a popular, if somewhat rustic, destination for tourists. Earth speaks of a bygone era, the origins of mankind, their rise...and fall. And yet even now, the tenacity of humanity and their home in the face of adversity remains. Even around the impact area of the space elevator's fall, communities are still surviving.

  • Mars: One of the first of Earth's interplanetary colonies, Mars holds some nostalgia for the people orbiting Jupiter and beyond, with it having been the first stop beyond the bounds of Earth as humanity expanded ever further. What once was a scarce few research and experimental habitation became a rapidly expanding network of domed cities. With progress, however, came a growing resentment for living under the powerful thumb of a government that existed on an entirely different planet that was becoming increasingly disconnected and disinterested in the Martian people and their issues, save for what dues the Martians owed. Token efforts were made as Jupiter's colonies too felt a rising frustration from a ruler whose reach was overextended and weak, but it only delayed or softened the inevitable.

    • Since 2268, Mars has been enjoying its new sovereignty, its bustling metropolises of domed cities, having learnt from the impact of their existence on the Earth, now envisions a brighter, cleaner future that Earth could never have achieved without the Volaska Cell. Life is good on Mars, as cosmopolitan as it gets, to the point that it's sometimes jokingly referred to as Neo-Earth. Though the divisions and wounds of the Rebellion era still stings deeply, and one would be careful about comparisons to Earth within earshot of strangers. Mars’ new government and populace are founded on ideals of a utopia, where all have their needs met using technology that the Planet-State had selfishly kept to themselves.

  • Jupiter: Officially now the Jovian League after their hard-won independence from Earth, an alliance of the separated colonies to have a united front against the Planet-State of Terra. It was the second group of colonies established as humans expanded outwards from Earth, first occupying the moons and then Jupiter's orbit with massive habitat stations to house millions of people and infrastructure. In the aftermath of the Rebellion era, the Jovian colonies and orbital stations scattered across the orbit of Jupiter and on its moons now deal with the diplomatic quagmire of a central authority of their own whilst maintaining independence for its member states. Each colony is its own city-state, with its own laws, method of rule, customs and culture. The Jovian League is a widely diverse "nation" thanks to its status as a confederation.

    • The relative separation of population centers from each other makes Jupiter a prime area for production facilities, especially orbital shipyards due to the massive amount of space to work with. Indeed, many of the production facilities for ships across the nearby solar systems are found in orbit, and several foundries have factories on the surface of the moons or within orbital stations for the mass manufacturing of machines such mechs, tanks and construction vehicles thanks to the remoteness.

  • Beyond: Beyond the reaches of the Sol System, humanity still thrives, connected through Volaska Tunnel Gates, but otherwise disconnected save for the occasional traveler and merchant, and so on. With this freedom comes their own customs and regimes, and they're as diverse as humans ever were, if not more. With the difficulty of long range communication, who knows how far humanity has stretched?

Primer: The Major Manufacturers in the Sol System

There are dozens of manufacturers from Sol and beyond, but these are the biggest names currently in Sol.

  • Crimson Fist Manufactories: The name that any Martian knows about, Crimson Fist was the primary supplier of armour to the Martian rebels in the war against the Planet-State of Terra, with their flagship "Shrike" general purpose model, backed up by the support model "Albatross". They've since expanded much further, introduced more models and refined and reworked their icons. Within the Sol System, they generally specialize in well-rounded mechs with a bend towards higher mobility. They remain the primary supplier of the Martian military, and the feats of their models during the Rebellion speaks for itself.

  • Kaiser Military-Industrial Foundries: A newcomer to the market, Kaiser is an Earth-based company that's making an increasingly well-known name for itself in terrestrial theaters for their lineup of sturdy, solid land-based weapons platforms, including the now iconic "Gladius" heavy/general purpose line and "Javelin" snipers and missile boats. With the various squabbling of factions on Earth now trying to lay claims on land and obtain power, Kaiser has risen quickly in popularity and sales with the warlords on its home ground, though they do offer lines of 0G and non-atmospheric mechs to other markets. Challenge. Conquer. Kaiser.

  • Axiom Energy and Electronics: One of the few manufacturers from outside the Sol System to have a presence in it, Axiom is not primarily a mech manufacturer, but rather deals in energy generation for various scales, from humble automobiles to entire city power grids. In recent years, they've branched out into the energy weapons markets, and now into creating their own lines of what they insist are "premium mechs for the discerning overclocker". Most of their limited selection, such as the "Altair" or "Betelguese", offers particularly robust engines and powerful and efficient energy transfer feeds, with obvious optimization for Axiom weapons. Their relative inexperience with the market, however, often leaves their units far more fragile than most as their engines take up far more space, leaving less for armour, and their systems are a lot more susceptible to breaking down from extended trauma due to their finely-tuned operating specifications. They also cost an arm and a leg in the Sol System.

    Weapon Classifications

  • Kinetics: Even with all the advances in directed energy weapons giving the world at large particle guns that only need a feed from a reactor, one of the most effective ways of dealing with any enemy is still throwing a massive object at high speeds towards them. Most mech-sized kinetic weaponry are coilguns, though railguns are used on heavier, dedicated platforms. Mechs are heavily armored, and nothing punches through armour like a solid bullet, exposing the sensitive neurofiber underneath. From CIWS/vulcans point defense to handguns to massive cannons, mechs have it all.

  • Particle weaponry: The Volaska Cell's output being essentially endless led to the revolutionary invention of the directed particle gun. Particle weapons draw directly from the mech's power source, charging it and directing it as a stream, beam or pulse. The fact they draw from the Volaska Cell means these weapons never run out of ammo, although rapid fire tends to deplete the stored charged energy leading to weaker shots, at least in more powerful weapons. They also tend to overheat far easier than kinetic weaponry. Since the energy used in the gun is the same as the energy used to power the mech's systems, a direct hit with a particle gun on exposed synth- or neurofiber wreaks havoc on both mech and pilot. Generally comes in the same forms as kinetic weaponry.

  • Missiles: Missiles still see very common use in the 23rd century, especially on mechs, though given the prevalence of point defenses on a mech, most missile systems are multiple-launch, firing swarms of smaller missiles in order to overwhelm point defenses. Almost every mech has integrated missiles of some sort, their explosive properties ensuring even a stray hit is potentially devastating, and their effectiveness remaining reliable no matter the range or difficulty of the attack thanks to their guidance systems and self-propulsion.

  • Melee: With the size of mech weaponry, it's common for a mech to run out of guns before it runs out of integrity. Enter melee weapons making a return, their smaller size making them a reliable backup weapon, maintaining some offensive strength without risking the mech's structure like unarmed strikes would. Most melee backups are particle blades, either as a separate weapon or integrated into a mech's limbs, though solid blades and clubs are used by dedicated fans. However, only the truly mad or skilled use mechs specialised for melee combat. The unskilled are mocked and derided, while the well-known veterans are subjects of awe and many a tall tale (or are they?).

  • Attack drones: By far the most niche weapon to be found on a mech. These miniature drones are docked on the mech itself, using a powerful on-board computer and a pilot's thoughts to detach and fly towards a target, swarming around the unfortunate enemy and firing their weaponry from multiple angles, making them hard to react to, while the attacker remains at a safe distance. These weapons require specialised training and adaptation to use, and becomes much riskier to use at closer ranges where a pilot dances in the line of fire of their own weapons. These drones eventually need to return to the mech, to recharge and reload, but they excel at disrupting enemy movement and formations. Come in ballistic, particle and point defense laser variants.

  • Shields: Energy shield research has sadly not yielded anything viable for a mech, military scientists struggling to figure out a method of turning the Volaska Cell's energy into a projected protective barrier. However, with the large size of mechs, cover tends to be in short supply, and several mechs are often able to carry physical shields to offer an extra layer of protection at the cost of reduced firepower, though some models incorporate limited integrated weaponry for the discerning user. Shields are rarely ever seen in the military or from major mech manufacturers, who deem the concept practically absurd, and are often from third-party part manufacturers.

Pilot Sheet

Name: Vittorio V. Miglia

Age: 26

Appearance: Vittorio is a tall (2 metres), pale male with blonde hair in a neat side-part hairstyle. He sports a pencil moustache & pale hazel eyes on a conventionally handsome face. His body is well-toned, a fact emphasised by the tight dress shirts (usually white) that he wears. He also prefers khaki jeans held up by an expensive-looking belt, a black tie, & leather shoes.

Personality: Vittorio is a competitor. He loves to be the fastest around, and will not hesitate to prove it. He values the battle as much as the outcome, and while he occasionally lets his ego, lust and/or vanity get the better of him, he usually takes a loss as an opportunity to learn and grow.

Abilities: Vittorio is highly athletic, able to run long distances without stopping and at remarkably fast speeds. He also has quick reflexes and is fairly talented with small arms.

Gear: Vittorio carries on his person a pocket knife and simple handgun. On his left wrist, he wears a waterproof watch that contains not only a clock but a compass, and other useful tools.

Backstory: Young Vittorio Miglia lived in a wealthy Jupiter household with his parents. He took self-defense classes to keep himself strong, and was homeschooled for education.

Despite his good life, Vittorio yearned for something less sheltered. As such, when the opportunity arose to purchase a mech, Vittorio jumped for it.

At first, Vittorio used his mech practically as a toy, challenging others to inconsequential duels or races. However, after the death of his father, he recognised that he was going to have to be more responsible so as not to bring shame to the Miglia family. To that effect, he became a mercenary, finding that the modifications he had made to his mech for winning races also served as advantages for winning fights.

The combination of Vittorio's learned skills, unconventional mech & competitive spirit (though he doesn't know it) allowed him to quickly establish himself as a mercenary, attracting the attention of… certain interests. The rest, as they say, is history.

Misc: Speed is life.

Mech Sheet

Name: Destriero

Base Model: Axiom "Pegasus"

Appearance: Destriero has a streamlined, aerodynamic (for a mech) frame & armour, its brilliant white colouring maintained to a high standard. The head of the mech is characterised by its pointed, almost beak-like shape.

Weapons:

  • Kinetic Shotgun - Destriero's main attacking move, a kinetic weapon firing 4 solid projectiles with serious power & surprising accuracy. The ammunition is stored in a pouch on the mech's side.

  • Particle Blade - Destriero's secondary weapon. This short energy blade is gripped in the mech's left hand

  • Javelin Missiles - Destriero's answer to long-distance threats. A small pod of missiles sits behind the mech's shoulder, and can lock onto targets a long distance away before firing. Missiles sport an automatic targeting system and travel with a top-down attack profile.

Equipment:

  • Skates - Destriero has a set of wheels embedded in its heels, allowing for some serious velocity on an even surface. These parts are taken from a Kaiser mech.

  • Thrusters - Destriero's mobility thrusters are tuned to be more powerful than the average mech's.

  • MP 3 player - Essential.

Misc: What's cooler than driving a giant mech? Speeding in a giant mech.

Ay, you! It's Gold, and I'm noble!

Pilot Sheet

”Name:” “Tark” Wikstrom
Age:Unknown, but claims to be around 26
Appearance:Standing at 6.5 feet tall, Tark is never seen out of a full body pilot suit reinforced by ceramic plates and meteoric iron. Their helmet is latched securely to their suit, obscures their face, and is decorated with a half moon crest on each side. Can also be seen with a cloak, but doesn’t wear it in their mech. While unconfirmed, some people have claimed they have hair the color of champagne and grey eyes.
Personality:Stoic and eccentric, with a mind seemingly always geared towards payment. Doesn’t usually talk about themselves.
Abilities:With a high degree of piloting skill, Tark is believed to be a Resonator, but has never formally been recognized as one. They also seem to be formally trained in close quarters combat and are a decent shot with firearms, rifles in particular.
Gear: Outside of their armor, Tark is usually equipped with a kinetic semiautomatic rifle and an electrified baton.
Backstory: There were once stories of a settlement, far beyond the Sol System. A haven for Mercenaries and outcasts alike. A place called Elysium. These mercs, or rather, these Knights of Elysium, spread out across the great expanse, fighting for those who could not fight for themselves. But then, one day, this settlement…simply vanished. Never again were the names of these knights uttered again. Elysium lie in ruins. Tark claims to be one such Knight, the last alive, supposedly. It’s with those words they approached Marius Serre, followed by “I wish to enter into your service.”

Mech Sheet

Name: Haven
Model: Kaiser "Spatha"
Appearance: The Haven, standing at 9 meters (don’t worry, the arms are longer than that, the angle is weird)
Weapons: Haven is equipped with a folding arm blade that can be released out of its left arm to be wielded in the right. The backpack has a rack for a high power 120mm kinetic rifle with an attachable scope and an ejectable vertical missile launcher that can hold a maximum payload of 30, while the right leg has a pop out holster for extra ammunition magazines. Its point defense systems are tuned for close range combat, allowing it to take hits as it closes in.
Equipment: The shoulders are equipped with flare and chaff launchers to deter guided ranged attacks that the shields can’t absorb, or what can’t be scrambled by their basic ECM. Also acts as a decent distraction tool in a pinch.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Brandon Erickson / Bradford Nicholson.
  • Age: 25
  • Appearance: A 6'0 young man with a medium build, short but unkempt red hair, and green eyes. He typically wears a leather jacket over a simple red shirt, and wears cargo trousers with combat boots adorning his feet. Typically, he also wears a baseball cap and glasses.
  • Personality: Raised in a mercenary environment, Brandon is both straightforward and casual. In combat, he strives to fight to his very best, using any and all he can to overcome his opponents. Outside of combat, he's fairly laid-back and friendly, understanding that camaderie is an important part of making an effective team.
  • Abilities: Brandon has thoroughly trained with most forms of firearms, though he performs best as an assault rifleman. He also has a keen intuition, and was confirmed early on to be a Resonator, though not a particularly powerful one, thanks to connections made to rogue Volaska scientists by his father. He can also formulate basic strategies based around his team, as long as he has enough prep-time, and can perform decently in hand-to-hand combat.
  • Gear: Most of the time, Brandon carries a customised assault rifle with a backup handgun, but he also carries a notebook with a pen.
  • Backstory:
    • Life was difficult for anyone on Earth after the Fall of Terra. The son of former State-Terran Fleet Commander Desmond Nicholson who become a renowned mercenary commander, Bradford Nicholson followed in his father's footsteps by training to become a mercenary fighter and mech pilot, in order to survive the harshness of the world that the war brought into existence.
    • As soon as he was allowed to become a full-fledged pilot, Bradford had changed his name to Brandon Erickson, as the rest of his family did before, to hide the fact that the family had survived the Fall. Thus, as part of the Ericksons' contracting firm, Brandon would find himself facing a small number of warlords over the years, defeating them in combat and allowing Brandon to become a renowned pilot in his own right.
    • His skills became renowned enough that other firms were eager to recruit him for their own purposes, Marius Serre included. Thus, after discussing the matter with his father, Brandon said goodbye to his family as he was inducted into the Angels of Charon.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Kreuzritter
  • Model: Crimson Fist Eagle
  • Appearance: A heavily-armoured and boxy machine standing at 9 meters tall coloured in a cool blue. Its boxy armour allows it to carry multiple medium-sized weapons, and the head almost resembles a helmeted soldier's head. The heavy armour it wears requires the use of multiple thrusters lined throughout the body, to counteract the heavy mass this armour has.
  • Weapons:
    • 40mm Combat Rifle: A standard kinetic rifle used by mech forces system-wide, this rifle is tuned for precision firing, allowing for decent marksmanship in most combat scenarios. This rifle also uses a custom underslung grenade launcher, though its limited use suggests that care must be taken before firing, wielded in the right hand. Extra magazines are stored on the rear-waist armour of the mech.
    • Shield: A reinforced shield mounted on the left arm's gauntlet, this shield can shrug off a small number of hits from particle beam volleys and most other forms of weaponry. Though nowhere near invincible, it has been a valuable asset in protecting the Kreuzritter from fatal damage.
    • Particle Blade Sword: Kreuzritter's emergency CQC weapons, these hilt-like devices can create blades made out of particle beams to quickly enact a close-quarters attack or defence. Stored in hip-mounted holsters, they are typically wielded in the mech's hands.
    • Missile Pod: A six-slot box mounted on Kreuzritter's left shoulder, this MRLS system fires guided missiles at the intended target. It is especially useful for attempting to kill multiple enemies in one strike, or to overwhelm a single target mech's Point-Defence System.
    • Railgun: Powered by the mech's onboard reactor, and mounted on the right shoulder, this heavy duty 60mm railgun is designed to fire tungsten darts at speeds capable of piercing heavy-duty armour. Because of the power involved, one dart can only be fired at a time, and is especially potent at long-range precision strikes. Ammo is strictly limited, however, to avoid overuse.
  • Equipment:
    • Zweite-Haut System: A modular armour system developed during the war, the external armour on Kreuzritter is designed to jettison should the pilot command it to do so. Explosive bolts are lined throughout the external armour to facilitate this, and is generally seen as a last resort to gain some last-minute mobility by removing its dead-weight. This armour has a significant amount of thrusters added to the original design to account for the extra armour and weapons equipped to it.
    • Enhanced Targeting System: Thanks to the inclusion of the 60mm railgun, Kreuzritter's systems needed an overhaul of its targeting suite, in order to facilitate the ability to track targets at a larger distance, especially given the increased velocity of such a weapon. However, it would not be able to excel as well as a sniper mech's targeting suite.

  • Misc: Yeah, yeah, obligatory Char Clone joke.

Pilot Sheet

Name: Simply goes by "Yang." (Abandoned his real name "Minh Nest" after The Incident)

Age: Yang is 30 years old.

Appearance: Yang is a Chinese male standing at 5'6. He has short-cut hair and is usually decked in a long brown poncho. He has a noticeable burn along his left eye; a scar from The Incident. The burn does not hamper his ability to see, though it looks rather gross.

Personality: On the surface, Yang is kind enough. He likes to help people when he's able to and isn't against conversations and bantering with others, though it's obvious that he is a man in mourning and mentions of romance make him uncomfortable.

However, the kindness he bears unto others is not spared for himself. Yang's outlook on life has shattered due to The Incident. He sees himself as an incomplete creature and that rationale leads to moments of surprising cruelty and callousness. This part of his psyche scares him, but he's long-since placed his crusade ahead of his well-being and harbors no illusions about how his life is going to end.

Abilities:

  • Resonator: Yang is a Resonator, allowing him a slightly-better degree of control over his mech than standard humans due to the synchronous nature of his brainwaves with Volaska energies. This is rather helpful given his abnormal combat-style.

  • Martial Arts: Yang took various courses to toughen himself up for his crusade. He's not a master in any sense of the word, but he can defend himself.

Gear:

  • Photo: A photo of Yang and Han the day the day Yang proposed. In times of stress, Yang will open the photo to calm down. It is noticeably worn.

  • Hand-Axe: Yang carries a hand-axe for self-defense. It...influenced...his style of piloting.

Backstory: There is absolutely nothing intriguing about Yang's pre-Incident life. He grew up on a Jovian League colony and graduated from an average school. He got a job in Engineering and soon met the love of his life, Han. He was never happier than he was in those first four years. Then The Incident happened.

A band of mech-units launched an attack on the Jovian colony of Gherus in the Year 2290. The incident was small-scale and ended almost as soon as it began. The media barely covered it and the perpetrators were never caught. But to Yang, it changed everything. Yang remembers holding Han in his arms, trying desperately to free his soon-to-be-husband from the rubble. However, a Particle blast separates the two and turns the wreckage of the power plant into a tomb. Before he lost consciousness, Yang saw the sight that would end his life:

A black-colored Mechanized Trooper. Wings extended like claws. The neon-blue hues of a thrashing tsunami painting paths along its limbs. On its right leg, a callsign. "Razor."

Year 2292.

An oddball mech launches into a battle between rival companies. The names didn't matter. The brands didn't matter. One of the mechs breaks off from the fighting in search of something. Mechs from both sides try to intercept it, but are somehow repelled. A voice however, soothes the rampage: A voice with a name, and an offer.

The Angels of Charon. A resource. The closest thing to a lead Yang had.

He would find "The Razor." He would destroy it and kill the scum working its controls. Nothing would stop him. Nothing would deter him. Either he would emerge from the wreckage, or they would both perish.

Yang didn't mind which.

Misc: N/A

Mech Sheet

Name: Fu'Chou (Based on the rough Chinese translation for "Revenge.")

Model: Axiom "Betelguese"

Appearance: The Fu'Chou is a thin, white mech with padded "guards" around the hands and feet. Its head has two horns across its top that extend to its sides, forming a rudimentary "helmet." Red stripes decoratively dot the robot’s limbs. On its left leg is a symbol with no known correlation to anyone other than Yang; added in defiance of "The Razor."

Weapons:

  • "Ion Axes": Originally a set of particle blades, these Kaiser-commissioned weapons have been heavily-jury-rigged into a pair of "particle-axes" designed to crush armor wholesale at close-range. While they sacrifice the simplicity and reach of blades, they compensate with more impact when striking a foe and work in better tandem with the brainwaves of someone that wields axes extensively like Yang.

  • Particle System "Ingrain": An Axiom-commissioned group of small laser feeds that are integrated into the Fu'Chou's chest-frame, allowing it to retaliate with quick-if-weak bursts of particle energy. Yang typically uses this to hassle long-range attackers until the Fu'Chou can get in close. As a final option, the lasers can be funneled through a single feed for a stronger blast, but will almost guarantee a complete power-drain of the entire mech.
Equipment:

  • Neuro-Hance: A system created to intensify the energies within the Fu'Chou's Ion Axes, boosting their output for but a moment. It's something of a backup, due to the intense strain Particles have on mechs.

Misc:

  • The "nest egg" that would've gone toward Yang and Han's married life was funneled into funding the Fu'Chou. Yang is not proud of it, but felt it necessary.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Scarlet
  • Age: 28
  • Appearance: Born soldier. Stands at 6'3.
  • Personality: On the surface, Scarlet is cold and aloof. She's terse, speaking in short sentences and single words. She's fatalistic and detached and treats everything like a game. She'll try anything once, desperate for something that feels real, but she's barely functional. As soon as she enters the cockpit, a switch is flipped. When preparing for combat or on the field of battle, she comes alive. She's energetic and enthusiastic, throwing herself into the fray with careless abandon. She's headstrong and carefree, passionate and bold, but this makes her reckless. But underneath the surface is a scared little girl who knows nothing but war.''
  • Abilities: Scarlet is a Resonator. She was never confirmed as one, but after the surgery, she began showing strong Resonator traits. She's a gifted mechanic and engineer, capable of cobbling together basic mechs from spare parts. Her prostethics are nothing to sneeze at. She can run long distances and lift heavy objects, but she needs to keep them in shape. She's picked up some first aid and self defense and is a solid shot, but off the battlefield, she's clueless.
  • Gear: Scarlet carries a handgun and basic toolkit. Her prosethics are useful in defending herself.
  • Backstory: Scarlett doesn't remember her past. She knows she was born and raised on Earth. She grew up in a little village in the boonies, her parents scrounging for what they could get. She was 17 when it happened. A fierce battle between two factions spilled over into town, the soldiers and their machines crushing half the town in their wake. Scarlett was lucky. Strong and determined, she managed to beat the odds, but she wasn't sure she won. Her limbs were crushed and mangled, her head beaten and battered. Performing the necessary brain surgery had already cost a fortune. Replacing her limbs with prosthetics would cost even more. She had two options; get the prosthetics and put herself in debt or live as an amputee. At her parent's urging, she went with the first, but she wasn't in a position to choose. The surgery kept her breathing, but she'd lost most of her memories. The destruction of her village and being crushed were the only memories she had. Everything else was secondhand. Unable to make an informed decision, her parents chose for her.
    • Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Scarlett was forced to work off her debt. With no memories or experience, there weren't many ways to make money. She had little preference, but she chose the path with the most dignity. Scrounging the village for spareparts, she cobbled together a mecha and went to town. She made a name for herself as a mercenary, throwing herself into battle after battle with no questions asked. She's worked with dozens of groups and enhanced her model several times over, but she's no closer to paying her debt than she started.
  • Misc: Scarlet isn't her real name. Marion Eshler is the name she was born with. If you want to keep your face, don't call her Marion.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Crimson Husk
  • Model: Red Demon MKI
  • Appearance: The last thing you'll see.
  • Weapons:
    • Wristblades: Has two large blades on their forearms. They're fast with good reach and can cut through most substances, but they lack in raw power. The blades are made of solid matter, but they're surrounded with zeta particles. This combination of physical and particle makes them doubly effective.
    • Particle Pistols: Has two particle pistols stuck to their shoulders. They can pull them out and shoot their foes from a distance, but their wristblades are more effective.
  • Equipment:
    • Jet Thrusters: Has a pair of jet thrusters sticking out their lower back. Like most mechs, they give them basic flight and mobility, but the Crimson Husk is special. They can shoot themselves forward like a rocket, tearing through enemies and zooming over the battlefield. Once they speed up, it's hard to slow down without brakes. Most pilots can't handle it, but it matches Scarlet's nature.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Karina Quistel
  • Age: 22
  • Appearance: Black hair and amber eyes, outside of her mech can most often be found in a tank top and cargo shorts when she's not in her mechanic's suit. Notably her legs have been replaced with a pair of well used and maintained prosthetics.
  • Personality: Surprisingly cheerful for a mercenary, Karina has spent much of her life turning other people's trash and scrap into a profit and is similarly inclined to look for the silver lining and unexpected opportunities when faced with setbacks and hardship.
  • Abilities: A skilled scavenger, mechanic and hacker. Also a decent shot with a pistol in case of emergencies. Karina is also a resonator, though she likely hasn't realized it and chalked up any tells as just being 'pretty into mechs'.
  • Gear:
    • Satchel containing a few tools
    • Datapad for personal and hacking purposes
    • Pistol
    • Prosthetic legs
  • Backstory:
    • Karina was raised on earth to parents who scraped out their living as mechanics among the ruins of the former space elevator and the wake of the many factions still fighting over the planet. At a young age an accident nearly destroyed her legs prompting her parents to seek out better paying jobs in order to pay for her medical care, her mother, a retired mech pilot, signed on as a mercenary for a company of battlefield scavengers called the Wild Hares. Her father joined them as well as a mechanic and kept Karina busy by teaching her how to work with tools and mechs where she quickly grew attached to her role as an assistant especially when it came to maintaining her mother's unit.
    • Karina's legs were replaced with cybernetics, restoring her mobility and allowing her to become a full fledged part of the Hare's mechanic crew herself until the family were able to fully pay off her legs. Eventually the Iron Hare's base came under fire during a particularly lucrative job recovering a downed transport containing a prototype mech, after recovering it and bringing it to the base part of their combat crew was sent to scout out the rendezvous location, during this time Karina took the opportunity to sneak over and look at the mech that had been damaged in the crash, she always felt a bit of sympathy when mechs were brought in with broken or destroyed legs, it felt relatable, though that felt silly to say out loud. At this time a rival company attacked the base, having gotten wind of their score and hoping to take it for themselves, the remaining combat crew found themselves pinned down and desperately trying to avoid being overrun.
Having noticed that the prototype had drones while she was examining it, Karina hopped into the pilot's seat and took control of one. She found it a very disorienting experience at first, but by concentrating just on the drone she was able to use it to harass the enemy company and assist the guards long enough for the rest of the combat units to arrive and turn the tables.
    • Naturally Karina had to be reprimanded for taking control of the client's goods, but in the end it was delivered in one piece. Having found the experience of piloting exhilarating despite the risks Karina decided to undergo serious training to become a pilot herself, where she proved to have a surprising knack for it despite her age. Afterwards she developed a bit of a reputation as an promising rookie for her work with the Iron Hares, and finally was recruited to the Angels of Charon.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Cottontail
  • Model: Kaiser "Dart"
  • Appearance: Pictured. A (relatively) lighter unit from the Kaiser line, meant to strike a balance between the company's tough and easy to maintain business model and the tactical applications of a high maneuverability unit. This "Dart" has been modified with extra jump jets to leap around the battlefield to both escape sticky situations and move into position to rain gunfire from it's drones on the enemy. Fitting the callsign and battle strategy a white rabbit emblem has been painted on it's shoulder.
  • Weapons:
    • Kinetic Submachine gun
    • 2 Kinetic rifle drones
    • 2 Particle rifle drones
    • 1 Radar and comms jamming drone

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Andrew "Andy" Murdoch
  • Age: 25
  • Appearance: Andy has dirty blond hair and a skinny build. He tends to wear ripped clothes and welding goggles. His hands and lower arms have several small cuts and burns, and he has gauze wrapped around his hands at all times due to injuries from repairs.
  • Personality: Andy is incredibly trigger happy, and loves the thrill of battle. The more enemies, the better, and he modifies his mech based on how easier it will make fighting multiple opponents at once. His success has also made him incredibly cocky, and he has a tendency to let his mech take more damage in fights if he thinks it'll let him win. That being said, his desire for a challenge means he won't pick fights that are blatantly in his favor, and his love for his mech means if he finds himself undeniably outmatched, he's willing to retreat to avoid seeing his mech destroyed beyond repair.
  • Abilities: Andy is a skilled mechanic, and tends to do most of the repairs for his mech himself. He also has excellent medical knowledge on treating cuts and burns.
  • Gear: Wrenches, a welding torch and goggles, rolls of gauze.
  • Backstory: Born and raised on Mars, as soon as Andy learned of Mechanized Troopers, he desired only one thing: to be the best at using them. Sure, he may not be a Resonator like some other pilots, but that won't deter him. Seeking the toughest mechs to use and prove his mettle, Andy managed to find passage to Earth once he turned 18, and got his hands on a Kaiser mech that he could work with. He then got into the mercenary business, allowing him to get paid to do what he loved: beating other mechs into the ground.

Mech Sheet

  • Name: Obliterator
  • Model: Heavily modified Kaiser Military-Industrial Foundries Spatha
  • Appearance: Dark green, Slightly shorter than the average mech, but is bulkier than most, especially in the arms. Has a cannon emerging from the back, and a window facing upwards in the chest to see out of if the mech is bent over.
  • Weapons:
    • Particle Rotary Cannon: The Obliterator's main modification was installing a rotary cannon directly into its back, and to maximize power uses the same Volaska Cells as the mech. However, to use the cannon, the Obliterator must assume "turret stance" (get down on all fours), and while firing, the mech is effectively immobile, only being able to turn to the side to adjust aim. As such, this only gets used when fighting multiple opponents at once. But when it gets used, it sure makes a destructive impression: its rate of fire is so quick that continuous shooting drains half the cell in about a minute.
    • Arm Mounted Shields: Attached to both arms are a set of large shields. These are primarily intended for turret stance to make up for the fact it can't dodge enemy fire while using it. They end in spikes on the side next to the hands of the mech, both for combat and to imbed itself into the ground for turret stance.
    • Kinetic Pistol: When fighting a single opponent, the Obliterator uses a kinetic pistol. Its clips carry ten rounds, and extra clips are dispensed from its hip.
  • Equipment:
    • Back Thrusters. While installed to minimize recoil in turret stance, they also help give the mech's jumps some extra distance.
    • Heel Spikes: Retractable spikes are built into the feet of the mech. Primarily to keep the mech still while in turret stance, they can also be used for better mobility on rough terrain.
  • Misc: The Obliterator has five separate early warning systems to notify the pilot when its systems are starting to overheat. Considering the way its current pilot uses it, this isn't overcautious.

Pilot Sheet

Name: Holdo Massti

Age: 18

Appearance: Holdo is a blond, baby-faced guy, with a twinkle in his eye and a grand smile. He normally wears more casual fare when not working, such as any Fun T-Shirt that he has.

Personality: Holdo is quite the nice guy, but he does have problems with his temper at times, and he can be headstrong or quick to assumptions. He's also a bit bloodthirsty. He can also be quite The Nicknamer, especially towards mechs and their weaponry.

Abilities: Holdo isn't a Resonator. What he is, however, is good at fighting in general, whether in melee or ranged combat, along with some decent mechanical skills. He's also a pretty good cook and singer.

Gear: Holdo normally holds on him his wallet and phone with him, and sometimes some chips and soda.

Backstory: On Earth, it's kill or be killed, with god knows how many factions warring over the remains of the dying planet. Holdo's father, Garro Massti, leads Massti Imperium, a small faction that is a force to be reckoned with due to Garro's military experience, and seeks to make all of Earth into a utopia (read: a dictatorship).

Garro is a Drill Sergeant Nasty to his soldiers, but it's taken Up to Eleven with his son. Despite having a relatively well-off background, Holdo still was disrespected and looked down on, even when he's a good pilot. Eventually, he started overachieving, killing camps of hostile factions without being asked. Nothing changed.

However, his actions drew the attention of Marius Serre, who called him for his skill. Holdo is all too happy to leave, and his father didn't really care.

Mech Sheet

Name/Callsign: Tri-Star

Model: Axiom: Orion

Appearance: Tri-Star is a lean machine, with a black, metallic paint job, and a giant holster for his Railgun. Art by Daniel Simon.

Weapons:

Aegis Eclipse: This particle railgun is a long rifle that fires bursts of energy. Its shots can be charged for a longer, more powerful shot, or can fire shorter-range, weaker but faster bolts. Using it too much will overheat the gun, rendering it inert for a while.

Artemisia Missile System: This missile system, unlike most, isn't meant to overwhelm defense systems and deal massive damage. It's much weaker, but has much more artillery, and is meant to scatter smaller troops and blind mechs with smoke.

Orion Horkos: The mech contains two attack drones that employ small missiles and automatic gunfire.

Equipment:

The Orion unit is more specialized in power and speed, and as a consequence, loses some armor, making it frailer than other units.

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Alexander (Last name not on record)
  • Age: 20
  • Appearance: Standing at a grand total of 5'5” and with barely even the frame to show for that much, Alexander is just a scruffy little guy, really - with a head of messy black hair carrying a large blue swatch and any array of old messy clothes under the same black fluffy-collared jacket he's been using for as long as he can remember. pics
  • Personality: At the surface, Alexander is a nervous person, and somewhat introverted, yet at the same time, he's a bundle of joy under that, holding an almost boundless love for his fellow people and a strong moral compass. He's of a deeply curious nature, as well, never quite settling for good enough as far as his knowledge is concerned.
  • Abilities:
    • Resonator: Alexander is, of course, a resonator, though surprisingly given his background, a minor one. Still, it helps with fine control of his mech.
    • Tinkerer: Alexander has a deep love for tinkering and customizing his mech - while he lack a formal education in engineering, he's picked up a wide array of knowledge from the mechanics he trained with at his previous outfit, and supplements with an eternal willingness to try his luck.
  • Gear:
    • Pistol: Despite his frail frame and love of people, Alexander isn't naive to a fault - he carries a 5.7x28mm semi-automatic pistol, for a rainy day.
    • Tinker Tools: Alexander wouldn't be caught dead without at least some tools - he keeps plenty of sewn-on inner pockets on his coat stuffed with various light tools, and often carries a satchel with heavier-duty stuff, as well.
  • Backstory: Alexander's early childhood is a relative unknown, but he was born in the wake of the Rebellion's end, and abandoned in one of the dome-cities of Mars not long after. His first appearance in the public record is a series of citations and charges for pickpocketing and other minor crimes, accumulated when he was homeless in his early teens. His life was on a path not too bright, but it would change for the better with the incident that would come to be known in the media as the December Insurgency. A small group of heavily armed Terra-sympathising rebels, calling themselves the Children of December, took over a section of the dome-city Alexander made his living in, holding a part of the local population hostage for a week to force the government to give into their demands. They had planned well, and the first counter strike intended to drive them out failed, leading to widespread attention. What they did not expect, maybe, was the street rabble rising against them. A group of young ruffians from the area they'd taken hijacked equipment from them, including one of their mechs, sowing enough chaos within their ranks that a second strike from the government forces put an end to their short-lived rebellion. Among those youngsters was recently-eighteen-years-old Alexander, and his natural talent in that mech's cockpit did not go unnoticed - over the next year, he was taken under the wing of ace mercenary Sarah Hel and her Hounds of Hades, who gave him his very own mech and taught him to properly pilot, and he quickly proved a worthy investment, the adorably charming young man proving to have a serious talent with his mech and a solid head on his shoulders to make use of it - a true prodigy in the seat. It wasn't long before other mercenary corps were vying to bring him into the fold, but despite better offers on the table, Alexander would eventually join Marius Serre's Angels of Charon, drawn to the offer for reasons he couldn’t quite explain beyond a gut-feeling.

Mech Sheet
  • Name: Hyperion
  • Model: Kaiser 'Claymore' Fast Assault Mech, with extensive internal modifications.
  • Appearance: edgelord
  • Weapons:
    • 70mm Marksman Rifle: The Hyperion’s longer-ranged option is a heavy-hitting 70mm high-velocity kinetic rifle, usually wielded as a general-purpose beater by longer ranged fire support platforms. Still, despite being out of its element, it performs decently at its new role, with minor modifications to improve its cyclic rate of fire. It locks onto the mech's back, when not in use.
    • 'Stinger' Micro-Missile Pods: As an answer to airborne threats, the Hyperion carries micro-missile pods in its shoulders. With sharp tracking and fast speed, the biggest lack they have is in punch, acting more as a deterrent than anything else.
    • Heavy Particle-Sheath Sword: This massive blade is the preferred weapon of Alexander - surprisingly light for its length, it's closer to a longsword than the usual wristblades and daggers found as backup CQC weapons. Its solid blade's cutting power is boosted by an energized cutting edge lending it advantages of both solid- and particle-bladed systems.
    • Armblades: If the mech's primary melee weapon is out of commission, Hyperion carries a pair of particle blade projectors in its arms, leaving it a backup weapon, or a finisher at close ranges.
  • Equipment:
    • Overcharged Jets: The Hyperion, being first and foremost a close-quarters mech, is equipped with outsized and overclocked mobility jets, lending it extreme bursts of speed that let it close the distance to a given opponent.
    • ECM Suite: Intended to shield the Hyperion from long-range targeting and especially missiles, its ECM also complements its armor to help hide it from detection even at closer ranges, letting it sneak up on enemies reliant on non-visual detection such as radar.
  • Misc: This Space Intentionally Left Blank
