Does Butterfly Of Doom have to involve time travel?

I'm reading The Supernova Era, and during the prologue, the children discuss their future ambitions. Huahua wants to make a big difference. Specs starts talking about chaos theory, and cites the butterfly flapping its wings in Indonesia causing a typhoon in America as an example of how we can't predict what the future will hold. Huahua declares that he wants to be that butterfly, but Specs explains that, according to chaos theory, everybody and everything is that butterfly.

I am not certain whether this discussion should fit on Butterfly of Doom, For Want Of A Nail, or some other trope.

For Want Of A Nail seems to fit the bill.
