So then the concern would be how would this affect the box office. A lot of people on Marsden’s Insta are saying they aren’t seeing the third movie unless he apologizes.

"A lot of people on Insta" is a tiny fraction of general audiences.

Okay, so this probably won’t mean anything then. It’ll probably pass and the movie will be fine unless it turns out Marsden did something monumentally horrible himself. Good.

Plus, while the character of Tom is well liked, most people will be coming here for Sonic, Knuckles, Jim Carrey as Egg man and, especially, Shadow.

Sonic making a Vin Diesel reference in the first movie is still my favorite bit in this franchise. (Youtube clip to the exact scene)

Even if he did, the movie will probably be fine. "Cancelling" people, as it's often referred to, isn't really a thing. It's a fake phenomenon blown out of proportion by pundits. Most people will pay lip service to outrage but draw the line at letting it stop them from consuming entertainment media.

"Let people enjoy things" and all that.

In fact, a bit of notoriety may even make him more popular among certain parts of the audience. The character's already a cop so it's not like his fans are liberals.

Edit: Sorry, I think I worded my post badly. I just wanted to say that, while I understand being put off my a cop character, there are liberals, such as me, who do like the character. He's a fun, wholesome character with a nice relationship with sonic and I can accept that Tom is a good policeman (though I am biased as I had relatives who were in the police so find it easier to separate the issues with the institution from the individuals).

As someone who's former brother-in-law was a policeman before he moved out of the country with my sister, I don't really have bad vibes with policemen, which is silly as I should. The corruption in my country is well known.

I think it's impractical to write off a work because of some of the actors anyway, unless you want to never consume entertainment. Though I do make an exception when the work exists primarily to be a vehicle for an actor who I despise.

So, do you think they will use a celebrity to voice Shadow?

Could be, could be not.

I'm thinking that they might use a celebrity for Shadow since Shadow is going to be the biggest draw for the movie, just like how Knuckles seem to be the biggest draw for the second movie.

Chances are, probably. Like with Carrey as Robotnik and Elba as Knuckles, having the main antagonist be a major star is good for marketing (though of course it's a bit different in Carrey's case since it is a non-voice role and would therefore require an actor used to physical performances, unlike Shadow who could in theory use a voice actor from the games/shows). However, the incredible performances from both of them (frankly I think they rank amongst the best portrayals of their respective characters) shows that it isn't just stunt casting that decides who plays the part, so chances are we'll get the best possible (available) celebrity role for Shadow.

So, what are the chances that the Knuckles show will tie into the third movie?

I have a feeling that the final scene of the miniseries will be Knuckles revealing that there's an evil hedgehog on the loose to Sonic and Tails.

Who will be 'we know' because in the movie, it will have happened after Shadow's first scene.

I heard that Rouge and Amy might be in the third movie. Do you guys think that's true?

Unfortunately I doubt it.

There's no way they wouldn't have been announced by now.
