A new Disney show is being made called Primos. It's created by Big City Greens director Natasha Kline. The show centers on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences.

Excuse me... drama importation?
"In either case, the post has been thumped. This topic should be put to rest"
I don't know if this website thumped it or if it was any of you.
Either way, I didn't had the intention of making a drama, just wanted for you Americans to know what the Latin American people actually likes for latino representation since I have been reading many comments here about WHY many of us are offended with the first sneak peek of Primos, not just Mexicans but everyone in Latinoamerica.
So instead of listing a recopilation of all the bad things latinos said about it (trust me, it's a LOT) I wanted to show you a positive animation (and to promote it to the USA audience, I have to admit) so you can compare it and see the difference.
But I heard this is more of a Chicano story with puts things in a different context not many people here understand.
Anyway, I'm glad some people here saw the Sol commercial and like it. That was the intention.
As for Primos... well, that pilot song is really catchy, in my opinion the only complain I got are the sometimes absent and careless parents that remind me of Timmy Turner's parents. Other than that, hoping the show goes well (as long as they make a meta joke about the "Oye Primos" bit)
Only mods can thump and you cant accuse people like this its rude and may earn you another thump.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I'm not accusing a person, I'm new to this "thread" thing so I don't really know how this works. Edit: Also I admit for some it can be worded as "rude" but I saw many comments in other fandoms that got away with words and nobody (mods) have thumped them.

I find myself rooting for this cartoon because its become something of an underdog due to the backlash its received
New theme music also a boxBut that's besides the point, just because it's tolerated on other wikis, doesn't mean it's tolerated on this one. Each wiki's rules can and do vary.

I kinda worked on some theory. It's not perfect, but might explain the dissonance between the latinos from Latam and the ones from the diaspora.
The diaspora latinos/chicanos, usually embrace more easily media that kinda portraits them as approachable/cutesy/non-threatening.
Latinos from LATAM usually embrace media that portraits them as badass, maybe because the macho culture a lot of latino countries still embrace.
It's not a perfect theory and I'm painting with very broad strokes here, but what it's seen as "cute" and perfectly acceptable in this show kinda triggered a rejection reflex outside the US.
I dont see any of that here. But I do think there is a difference between the diaspora and Latin Americans that live in Lat AM.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Pretty much right.
This show target audiencie isn't latin americans (México to Argentina/Chile), but chicanos.
But thanks to globalization, this kinds of things happens.
Kinda like Americans Hate Tingle.
Yo soy el futuro, luwawanu mu sadila kisalasala kio.I mean kinda?.
Like yeah there is a thing diaspora latinos are a thing is a sort of let said "new"(very broadly use here) compared to mainland latinos and something I notice is that for us, being latios is more some cultura significer about it, like learing the language, come here, appreciate the culture and that kind of stuff.
So some diference I can see are(which I must said they are indeed overly generalization so as always with a pinch of salt and yadda, yadda):
-Language is a big deal: probably the most obvious and already color much of the expectation is that in general is a sort of pride point speaking in spanish since is mostly the language we all comunicate here(well except brazil but they are so big we cant ignore them but one get the point), so not surprise is probably the crashing point for many, the same happen to me when I saw Betty NY and they start speaking spanglish was quite a shock even if was realistic(also I hate the series but for other reason).
-empowerment vs normalization: Again this is overall generalization but for what I get usually diaspora latinos tend to expect more normalization "we want our look and pratice to look like everyone else", while here we more used to see as "normal" instead want us to mostly look cool, meaning that even if the chararter is a steriotype as long it funny, cool or awsome it mostly get a pass even if a eyeroll and a coment for being derivative. Which probably explain why speedy gonzales isnt as hated at all because he is a speedsteader who out fox everyone, or mucha lucha or el tigre that while a exageration of one aspect they are pretty love(hell el tigre use yellow filter everyone is shitting now).
-Finally in general latinos often are know for being more black humor, probably for shitty experince we often deflect that way and yeah conservative and some macho stuff also play, funny thing we tend to be pretty damn sensible about some stuff but I dont think this play much here since is a disney set up in general.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yeah I pointed this out before, nobody gave a shit that El Tigre did the same thing...and in its case, I don't even think it's set in the U.S. in the first place like Primos is?
A new poster for the show came out today. It... honestly looks super lazy. I'm pretty sure they just paused the trailer where all the cousins were running and just put a new image of Tater in its place.
EDIT: D'OH, it didn't upload properly! It's up on the Disney Wiki.

Concerning news about the dub. Disney is cutting the amount of dubs they are doing. One thing that could have made this show appeal to Latin Americans better is modify the names and script a bit so they are more appealing to Latin Americans... which seems wont happen with this show.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.OK yeah, that does seem a little basic and uminspired. The girl with glasses should be in the center of the image without one of her arms getting cut off

New theme music also a boxDiana: for what I get yellow filter discourse happen years afterward el tigre finished so im not surprise it just get bypass at all.
Aegis: I feel a latin america dub probably would fit a lot of issues in fact, granted it probably would bypass a lot of inside jokes ether.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yeah if I remember right, the discourse popped up with Breaking Bad, which would've been after El Tigre was ended by Nickelodeon.
Yeah more or less and also el tigre sucess was modest unlike the smashing hit breaking bad was.
So there is quite a retroactive discussion here going on more or less.
Also....no other new about it? its almost half a year already.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Any mention of it would be Disney shooting itself in the foot, deservedly or not.
So no, expect this to be buried as deeply as possible.
It seems like Disney is going to drop this show due to the controversy.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Based off literally what?
It's common practice to go a while without news like this. It's fine. Chill. Stop doomsaying with zero evidence or understanding of how animation works.
This site is claiming 1/19/2024, but be aware this is unofficial.
The site also indicates Idiosyncratic Episode Naming with the form of "Summer of ______".
I'm interested to see what they will be doing with this show if it comes out in 2024. Would they have to change a couple of things about this show due to the controversy?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
Uh, so the girl's name is written as "Cookita".
Not the best, but at least tries to sound like a cookie.
Yo soy el futuro, luwawanu mu sadila kisalasala kio. They won't really change anything on the show itself due to the backlash I think it's practically late at this point but ,what they'll probably do is press ahead and air the show regardless of negativity and let the ratings decide what they do next

New theme music also a boxUnless they are contractually obligated to release it, I maintain that the best course of action would be to make it a tax write-off, because the uphill battle to overcome its current impression is simply not worth the time or money.
I'm still thinking it's about the Chicano experience in Los Angeles, and that isn't travelling well to Latin America.
Seriously, until recently that yellow sky is what a smoggy day in Los Angeles looked like. Likewise the jokes about earthquakes which comes off as Dude, Not Funny! in Mexico City.
