A new Disney show is being made called Primos. It's created by Big City Greens director Natasha Kline. The show centers on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences.

Sounds interesting, hopefully Disney will give it a fair shot.
Wake me up at your own risk. The show is apparently being made for Disney Junior. I just checked Twitter, and the Disney Junior Twitter account retweeted the news. Regardless, I look forward to this show.

So there was apparently a mistake. Primos is not being made for Disney Junior. I do wonder why the Disney Junior Twitter account retweeted the news, but it's not a Disney Junior show.
They have released the title sequence:
This thing is offensive.
To win, you need to adapt, and to adapt, you need to be able to laugh away all the restraints. Everything holding you back. No, it isn't.
I'm baffled how people are getting so up in arms over this. A Latin American woman makes a cartoon and suddenly she's accused of being white and psychos run her off Instagram.

...Just because she's Latin American doesn't mean she isn't also white. Being Hispanic doesn't automatically make you a person of color.
That being said I don't know why people are calling this offensive. I guess because the character designs might be a bit stereotypical? I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing though I'm not a fan of the artstyle or the main character's design myself.
I'm literally a white Mexican. I'm aware.
I've also seen pictures of the creator. She's not white. That's what's pissing me off, is people accusing her of being white and not a "real" Latin American.

So, yeah, the grammar error was... baffling. Kind of a cultural clash I guess; English speakers are often seen here as sort of loose with their language, while Latinos, even when we make mistakes, at least we try to sort of give symbolic importance to grammar rules.
HAVING SAID THAT.
Yeah man, this show is being way over hated. Like it had one small criticism and then people used it to vent about other frustrations they already had with Disney or just plain modern culture.
We literally have Tornado Alley in the U.S.
And maybe don't imply a Mexican woman who is literally basing this off her childhood "doesn't know a thing about her heritage"?
The show isn't even looking to be my cup of tea but suddenly I'm an "enabler" for saying it's ridiculous to see the creator harassed and falsely accused of being a white woman who doesn't know anything about her own culture? Or that some of the complaints are stupid?
Fucking hell, people have been getting mad that a character is named "Nacho". That's literally a common nickname in Spanish.
While I can't speak for anyone here, I don't think we should be pooh-poohing the concerns raised over this show, considering most of the people speaking out about it seem to be Latin Americans themselves. From what I've seen, most of the criticism stems from what seems to be a very shallow and vaguely offensive interpretation of Latin American culture, with a gigantic Hispanic family huddled together under a single roof speaking broken Spanish under an orange sky.
That plus a name like "Natasha Klein" isn't exactly an indication of strong Hispanic ancestry, which probably compounds the backlash.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."That's idiotic. Not every Latin American has a strongly Hispanic name.
And I've seen plenty other Latin Americans who have criticized the backlash. One Venezuelan fanartist I follow made a thread discussing the backlash and pointing out that some of the name controversy is dumb when these *are* some commonly used nicknames in Spanish.
The show looks ugly.

And Disney just removed the theme song from most social media due to the backlash.
Fucking peachy.

Primos poisoned our water supply, burned our crops and delivered a plague unto our houses.
You know what's super dumb?
One point of backlash is that one character is named Cuquita. Now, yes, Cuquita is often a word used to refer to something very nasty, but...it's also a nickname. It's what people named Refugio are often called.
Vicente Fernandez's wife is referred to as Doña Cuquita all the time.
Maybe it's just a Mexican Spanish thing but it's not uncommon.
They'll just reupload it later and hope people don't notice it.
They'll do it as many times as they deem necessary.

I think what kills me is the fact they're just using the Mexican Filter for the base setting. Like sure, when that shows up in Live Action? Usually it's not the primary setting and they don't have the resources to make it feel too separate (like the travel fee or something).
But here in animation when you have all control over the color theory, and yet they still choose this monochrome yellow filter over everything? That sucks. The architecture was already spot on, but they couldn't place them under a blue sky? It's just boring how often latino locations have to be represented with that ugly monotone yellow when the sky over here is just as beautiful as anywhere else. I'm really upset how many pop culture lens Mexico ends up going through when something like this gets greenlit. I do not envy the PR guy on Disney having to manage this thing
chuck lorre vanity cardLooked deeper into it and.. jeez what a bad response she's given.
Here she's defending the poor grammar using the defense that Spanish conquistadors forced the language upon Mexicans...
Jesus. Like not even contemplating the fact it's been centuries since that and generations upon generations were born in those regions knowing and being taught the language by people born there in Latino countries, all taught the language before being given any history class as to why.
She also called someone Instagram as a grammar nazi just because the team didn't do a basic spelling check on Google. Justifying the mistake that "language is fluid and transistory", like that's what a student would say to their teacher after getting scolded for a bad grade in their language class.

chuck lorre vanity cardIt's a stupid response but given how this constantly plays out with a given creator being harassed on social media because "show bad" and kneejerk responses are made in response...can't say it's unexpected.
Why is this thread is getting mad at an child for not speaking prefectly
Isn't that common with children characters 🤯
Anyway, it's apparently a slang thing in Spanish speaking Californians
You aren't going to like AAVE
Because it's an adult that wrote that in lol, and the Oye Primos part is the chorus of the song, not some young character's speech pattern.
