I'm already seeing Autism Creature art of Sandy. He's a hit!

Oh, shipping in the first season. Between the Jack/Debra shippers getting into fights with everybody and most of the Cann-related ships at the time vanishing overnight when he was confirmed to be gay, that was the stuff of legends.

So, two new things got posted on Twitter today. One was a closer look at the suits. They're a group with the innocuous-sounding name of Bedford Security Solutions. Their business has been booming due to the increased Stygian activity, but there's definitely something up with them.

The other is a bio on a character named Wandderin' John. He's a posthumous character, a travelling lay preacher and purported oracle from the nineteenth century. He left behind a lot of writings, some of which discuss the Twilight Empress.

Loads of new characters this season, anyone want to take bets on whose dying this season?

It's gonna be Maverick. They're finally gonna kill him off.

The season 9 premiere is finally here. Its title: "There Is Something New Under The Sun."

After a few months of preliminary training, new recruits Sandy, Randi and Candie are finally sent on their first official mission! The Quarter Express takes them to the scenic small town of Middlebury, Vermont for some recon. They'll have to be careful, though; rumor has it that there could be a Styxian pod hidden somewhere in the city, which they'll have to destroy if they find it.

Things seem to be going well enough, when all of a sudden the new guys are attacked by a mysterious creature! It's definitely not a Styxian, that's for sure; it looks nothing like anything they can identify. They defeat the alien, Candie takes a picture of it, and they collect a saliva sample to take back to the lab for analysis.

Meanwhile, there's a b-plot involving Debra going through JUNCTION's library to read as much info as she can regarding the Twilight Empress.

We get to see a bit of the new crew's specializations; Sandy has a meticulousness that works well when investigating, Randi is the Social Expert, and Candie hits stuff good.

...It also seems that their training did not include how to really function as a group. They don't seem to full grasp each others' skills, and there's some definite clashing of personalities.

It also appears that Mattias knows something about the Twilight Empress, given that he offers Debra some information at the end.

I'll say, the new guys have a very entertaining dynamic. Sandy is busy rattling off random facts about Vermont while Candie takes pictures of everything in sight and Randi just kinda puts up with it because she likes hearing what others have to say.

Well, that explains the problems I had trying to get in the first time...

That's a Feud Episode waiting to happen, if you ask me. I could imagine the minor niggles escalating into a major issue.

It feels like the writers might be trying too hard to be to be "proper" when writing Sandy, but I guess they're trying to avoid a repeat of some of their... controversial attempts at representation. Like the Saint Patrick's Day episode. Or Vikram. Or Sawyl-

Okay, some Welsh people did think Sawyl was a good take on Welsh culture, but there were also a lot of people who were unhappy that the only notable Welsh character was a talking ash tree. And nobody thought his accent was good; apparently, he sounded more like a New Zealander.

Checked out today's episode, Voice from the Past.

Mattias shows Debra a book from a nineteenth century man names Johann Schmidt. Johann claimed to be able to see the future, and prophesied many things that would happen. Debra is skeptical, until Mattias actually reads out what's basically the cliff's notes of the last few seasons. Now Debra's impressed, but the book ends at what appears to be the finale of the last season. But it turns out that they're in luck; Johann emigrated to the US and continued writing under the anglicized name of John Smith. Mattias doesn't have any of John's later books, but he has an idea of where one could be found.

We meet Jack and Rachel for the first time this season. Rachel informs Jack that she's encountered some family issues and will have to leave to sort them out, meaning parting with Jack for a time. Jack has some questions, especially since Rachel is pretty cagey, but he ultimately goes along with it.

We then turn to the rookie trio, who discuss the idea of aliens. Sandy is fascinated by the idea of meeting extraterrestrials, but Candie is much less enthused. She implies that she has some lingering issues from a previous encounter with aliens.

And we get a stinger where Archmage Lysithea tries to comfort her pupil over getting "dumped". With all of her usual (lack of) delicacy.

I swear to God if they reveal that Johnathan Schmidt is Wandering John I'm gonna break into the producers homes and eat their furniture.

So, remember the Point Strikers? Y'know, those massive guns that only Venomians can use? Yeah, Pepperidge Farm remembers. So do Sandy and Randi, who spend this episode trying to mod one so that it can be used by non-Venomians, much to Reid and Athena's chagrin.

Meanwhile, Debra finds out that Hermes knew the Twilight Empress while she was alive, and demands that he tell her everything he knows about her. Hermes tells her many tales of her grandeur, like the time she and the Archon's Covenants fought against Freeman and another man called Lagrius who were trying to sneak beyond Archon's Gate. Debra asks him about Wanderin' John and his whereabouts, but Hermes gets kinda shifty when it comes to him... It's very clear from the stories he tells that Hermes is intentionally leaving major parts out. As for why? It's hard to tell.

I also enjoyed this conversation between Debra and Jonathan:

New episode Monday! The title: "Not That Kind of Junction, Unfortunately".

As proof that the Quarter-JUNCTION alliance is still alive and kicking, Cann and Panjandrum are seen making arrangements for the new recruits to collaborate with JUNCTION for the first time. It's already made apparent that the "Fresh Meat Gang" (as Cesare calls them) don't really make for the best team missions-wise, but they somehow work even worse with JUNCTION. They're sent to Vienna to track down a few of Wandering John's manuscripts, but they spend more time fighting with each other than they do fighting against the new aliens (forgot what they're called, btw). Somehow, amid all the struggle and infighting, they manage to salvage the manuscripts out of the alien goop...

But they have no idea what they say, because they're all in German. Scheisse!

Ovi and Sandy's beef with each other is extremely entertaining, though.

What do you guys think of the weekly airing schedule? I'm personally kinda starting to dislike it; I think it makes the thread stall for too long.

I see what you mean, but there also just doesn't seem to be much interest in this thread at the moment. I'd still be alright with going back to the biweekly schedule.

If you can't remember what the aliens are called, it's probably because the characters keep calling them different things; Sandy calls them the "Varanus", Randy calls them "Geigers", Candi calls them "roaches" and Ovi refers to them as "Betelgeusians".

Hey guys! Finally coming back to the show, I took off for a while there. Last thing I remember was the orator stones quest. Anything I need to catch up on?

We've got a new trio of Quarters the show is focusing on, there's a new group of aliens, and Debra is trying to learn more about the Twilight Empress.

Plus, Molly might be involved in this season if previous discussion in this thread is anything to go by...

Also Najimi might be autistic, but that's no surprise.

Loving the JUNCTION team's lines bouncing off each other this episode, felt very real.

Sick of that stupid Molly fanart being passed around as if it's a leak. The art style in that image and the art style of the show aren't anything alike.

This fandom has gone wild during the two week hiatus we've been having. Apparently, it's because fans (ooc: me) don't like the one episode a week schedule.

Also, those Molly leaks are some of the most obvious bullshit I've ever seen. I thought it couldn't get worse than the Venomia leaks, but wow. Just wow.

Yeah, there's no way they'd be able to get away with the things from the purported leak with this show's rating.

On the plus side, we do have a little something to tide us over until the next episode; an extended version of Kanna's attempts at becoming a Youtuber. Highlights include her ASMR video where she gets attacked by mercenaries halfway through the recording.

So, finally caught up.
