Vexcorp Classified Report

Project Glory

The following information is only meant for Project Glory staff and the Vexcorp Board. Project Glory was established in order to research the human potential to perform superhuman feats and how to replicate these effects on a mass scale. Initial findings were without much success until ten years ago once Dr. Carver became active lead of Project Glory, able to find test subjects who were able to display superhuman abilities and bringing them under Vexcorp's control through all available means. Abilities started out as relatively weak but Dr. Carver was slowly able to bring out more abilities with experimentation. Once understood abilities could be replicated and produced in other subjects. (File: Blank Men, Twins, Bolt Necks)

Further research into new abilities is to be undertaken with care, as each subject presents a da—-

Data Interruption

"Hello to all of my trapped friends and gross scientist captors, my name is Charlie Newcastle and I don't know about everyone else but I'm getting a bit tired of the same old cell and the faces going by. So its about time we had some real fun! What you just felt was a minor pulse that burned out any tracker they put in you, and whats going to come next is a little number by a friend thats going to send you somewhere fun fun fun! We've all been granted powers by birth and had those powers boosted by our captors, so its only right that we get a bit of payback and have fun. Destroy shit, rule shit, protect shit if you're into it. But its time for us to start a new day. So long!"

With that declaration the entire facility would be emptied of each experimental subject contained within from every wing, transported to Los Angeles, California scattered across the city by a strange purple gate that had opened beneath them. Within hours the chaos began as some of the former subjects used their powers for all manner of chaos, some on purpose and others just as a byproduct of their gifts. But by the end of the week most had gone to ground, not wishing to be captured or hunted down by either Vexcorp or the police.

Some just strive to live normal lives, slipping back into the world and disappearing. Others gather power, drawing in other subjects for their goals. Some just want to see chaos wherever they go, becoming modern day supervillains while pushing their powers ever further.

But most rare amongst the former live subjects are those who want to use their powers to help, to make a difference in the world and provide some light despite the horrors they have faced. They fight a shadow war against Vexcorp and those subjects looking to bring chaos and disorder.

  • Name: Setsuna Kagura
  • Epithet: Bulldozer
  • Age: 26
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: STRONK. Wears the same clothes Vexcorp gave her. She hates wearing them, but hasn't had time to make her own or find anything else that fits. Her eyes and hair have also changed from black to blood red, a result of her experimentation. Used to be 5'8, but now stands at 6'6.
  • Personality: Setsuna is bubbly, sweet, and somewhat demure. She adores cute things and has a developed sense of fashion, but can be overly nervous and somewhat apologetic. She often catches herself saying ‘sorry’ or asking others for approval, even if she doesn’t need to. But buried underneath everything else, she has a ferocious temper. After she moved out of the house, she started getting her anger under control, but being poked and prodded like a lab animal has given her a relapse.
    • Her years of abuse have also led to her being easily persuaded. She has little confidence or self-worth, agreeing to others demands and suggestions if it pleases them. She has her limits, but if you treat her nicely, she'll do almost anything you say. She's tried to be more confident and assertive, but after living with her father for half of her life and treated like a labrat the rest of it, it's a struggle.
  • Ability: Superhuman strength. Setsuna was always a bit stronger than average, but she never noticed or honed it until recently. Since the experimentation, she's become inhumanly strong. She can lift a truck with some effort, and punch through brick walls with even less. With years of training, she's learned how to control her strength, but can go overboard if stressed or provoked.
  • Skills: Outside of her strength, Setsuna is skilled in hand to hand combat thanks to her Vexcorp training, though her technique is somewhat sloppy. She fights like a pro wrestler, pummeling the enemy with haymakers and slamming them into the ground. She's a great sewer and is skilled in arts and crafts, or used to be. But she doesn't have much else, and counts on her muscles to get her through.
  • Background: Setsuna didn't have the best childhood. Her mother left her when she was young, and her father was a drunken brute. Every day he'd abuse her, coming home overworked and underpaid and using her to vent his frustrations. She was somewhat strong for a child, but her sweet and bubbly nature made her an easy target, pingponged between her father and the local bullies at school. She tried to take it like a champ, but after one abuse too many, she snapped. She clocked one of the bullies square in the jaw, breaking their neck and sending them to the hospital. Setsuna was suspended from school, but this got Vexcorp's attention.
    • On her sixteenth birthday, she was shoved into an unmarked van on the way home and given a faceful of chloroform. Her dad and the school noticed she was gone, but she was already on the road to California. Unable to turn up any leads, they cancelled the search, and her father turned even further to the bottle.
    • For the next ten years, Setsuna was subjected to various training regiments and procedures, meant to increase her noticeable strength to superhuman levels. She was put on diets, forced to lift weights, given steroids and other body modifications to make her a living machine. After she was as strong as could be, they trained her to control her strength and use it efficiently, intending to use her as an elite foot soldier. Despite her strength, she was unable to escape, forced to obey Vexcorp or face punishment. She was arguably in the same situation as before, even if the details had changed.
    • After years of being made into a tool, her chance came and she took it. Free and strong as an ox, she's tried to lay low, staying out of the public eye. But after being mistreated and abused for so long, she's decided enough is enough. She won't risk tackling Vexcorp head-on, but she helps where she can, taking her anger out on criminals and protecting innocents. Her methods may be... messy, especially after Vexcorp trained her in such techinques. But she won't let anyone else become a victim.
Etc: Setsuna adores cute and cuddly things, and has a terrific fashion sense. Her dream was becoming a dollmaker or fashionista, but after ten years with Vexcorp, it's been long forgotten. Used to have a stuffed bunny to keep her calm, but it's been missing since she was held captive. She has a taste and high tolerance for alcohol, but it's embarrassing to admit.

  • Name: Katie Sullivan
  • Epithet: Psiblade
  • Age: 27
  • Appearance: [1] [2] Stands at a height of around 5'6". Typically dresses in casual streetwear, with little regard for current fashions and trends beyond the basics. Approachable demeanour, usually seen wearing a smile even in the worst of times—sometimes to a fault. When using her powers, her retinas tend to reflect a strange unearthly pinprick of light.
  • Personality: An optimistic, kindhearted and sometimes bubbly woman, Katie tries her best to see the sunny side in almost any situation she can. With a bright, toothy grin that she's become infamous for, her sometimes strange demeanour can alienate some folk due to her enthusiasm—turning into quite the motormouth when she's especially excited. Still, she knows when to shut up if the mood calls for it, and can snap into action at a moment's notice if she deems it necessary to the point of even becoming quite ruthless with her enemies. Katie overall seems to be battling with two halves of herself—a half that wants nothing but a fun time and a sense of peace and belonging amongst friends, and another half that wants to make sure nothing gets in the way of it, no matter what it takes.
  • Ability: As her epithet suggests, Katie is able to conjure psychic blades of energy out of almost any part of her body, which is usually her hands but truthfully subject to whatever scenario she's in at the time. With a distinctive plasmic purple glow, these crackling psionic constructs can cut through thick steel like butter and through reinforced concrete with some effort, though she can only conjure two blades at a time. If she chooses to, she can conjure a single blade of twice the length, but it tends to be rather unwieldy despite its greater reach. In an effort to distance herself from the violence in her powers, Katie is trying to develop them into a more defensive shield—but the most she's able to accomplish so far is conjuring a knife or two in front of herself and spinning them rapidly in the air in order to deflect attacks.
  • Skills: Katie is trained in self-defense, having knowledge in mixed martial arts and light weapon CQC in addition. Though an admittedly terrible cook, she enjoys the process of preparing food, and will often present questionably-edible homemade treats to anyone naïve enough to accept them. Finally, she's rather adept with her guitar and musical instruments in general, though this is more to distract her from the fact that she has very few everyday skills apart from this.
  • Background: With a very weak psychic potential in her youth, Katie was nonetheless heavily trained by Vexcorp to develop what little powers she had, with the few successful experiments involving psionic projection (and a few unfortunate losses along with them) further motivating her training to intensify over the years. Becoming an adept fighter borderline worthy of becoming an assassin in ability alone, Katie meanwhile suffered a little in terms of her peaceful countenance and friendly personality, and tended to smalltalk her practice targets rather than actually strike them as intended. As such, she was due to undergo heavy behavioural modification before the breakout commenced, and was so fearful of the procedure that she hid inside a dumpster only a few alleys away for the first two nights outside the walls of the facility. Now having tentatively settled into a humble apartment, Katie is easing herself slowly into the basic concept of a ‘normal’ life; even if her wants for friendship are a little too idealistic.
  • Etc: Has adopted a stray cat she's named Daisy, ironically from the very dumpster she'd initially hidden in after escaping. It also might not be stray, but nobody's asked her for it back yet.

  • Name: Sarangerel Sherburn, AKA "Ange"
  • Epithet: The Pig
  • Age: 34
  • Appearance: Our ghoul in a red blanket and her living, former self. Sarangerel is a small, pale zombie(?) with white hair and yellow eyes that glow when she's excited. She stands about 5'8'', and her skin feels about room temperature. Sarangerel has no detectable heartbeat or breathing. She still resembles her living self, naturally. The lack of vital signs and very different body language set her apart.
  • Personality: Sarangerel smiles alot and rarely drops her sense of decorum. It's not kindness. She simply gets a kick out of acting meek and irreverent, and she has the practice leftover from customer service work. Sarangerel prefers to follow and seems dutiful, but she's indifferent at best towards whoever she is working for at the time. Sarangerel wants a cause to join yes but more to be important and to work out her newly unrestrained violent streak than because she actually believes in anything in particular. Part of what made it so easy for Vexcorp to recruit her is her not really having any big dreams aside from finding someone with a big dream to join.
  • Ability: Undeath. Sarangerel manifested something unnatural. Of course, Sarangerel didn't know this until she had to but... she's ageless, or, well, already dead. And dead Ange is very durable and her body, when damaged, will eventually piece itself back together. When she's not sending her hands or eyes off for independent work. Ange seems needless, not breathing or eating. She does not sleep but one can catch her sitting inactively though aware for several hours at a time.
  • Skills: While it never helped her career in life, Sarangerel is quite intelligent, both quick-witted and knowledgeable in several areas, like marketing, supply chain management, and day-to-day things (like repairing a vehicle, personal finance, or plumbing). By her training with Project Glory, Sarangerel is an excellent infiltrator/stalker. Sarangerel's fighting skills are only adequate. She can aim a firearm like anyone with training, but she clearly relies upon her survivability and self-moddingnote  in melee.
  • Background: Sarangerel will tell people that she’s a specter summoned forth by (insert whoever she works for) to chastise the living. Of herself she says little more.
    • Vexcorp: Of her time before Project Glory, Sarangerel says little, deeming it unimportant (and embarrassing). To her, her real life began when she revived and returned to Vexcorp. Returned yes. After she flatlined during an experiment, Vexcorp disposed of the 'body' in such a way that she could have easily escaped if Ange hadn't rang their doorbell after. Before and after her death, she cooperated with the project as best she could. Before dying, Ange's psychic potential was clearly detected by machinery but never seemed to manifest as something observable. Only after she died was what she did clearly shown. Either way, the scientists never had to fight with her to work tests. She would have and was doing whatever Dr. Carver's team asked with nary a protest over the years. note  Although after she died, she stopped being quite so controllable and became increasingly restless.
    • Escape from Vexcorp: Sarangerel's escape was incidental, and her staying away was because of Project Glory not using her for anything besides experiments. Being poked with needles, training, and doing tests while hooked up to wires were nice and all but, for all the talk about Project's 'Glory', they never asked her to do anything real. So when she was dropped out of her cell that day, Sarangerel simply took the chance and walked off. Though she didn't put it behind her. Ange actively seeks out the other 'participants' and potential competitors of Vexcorp, hoping that one of them has something planned. In the meantime, she's started a modest life (she hates this!), renting a room and taking on staffing jobs. (Incidentally, staffing is a place where Ange might find people newly freed from an institution, like say Vexcorp, with years long gaps in their resumes and probably no IDs to speak of. So, it's a means to an end).
    • Pre-Vexcorp: Before Vexcorp, Sarangerel was a secretary who was barely making enough to afford living with her parents at 29. She was ecstatic when Vexcorp asked her to come along, even knowing how they were likely to treat her.
  • Etc: Sarangerel actively represses her living history and will never give a straight answer about it. But as noted above, her story's boring and disappointing rather than exceptional. That even lingered into her days at VexCorp. VexCorp did not carefully choose Sarangerel's nickname. After all, she showed no power to speak of for years. The name came more from her meekness and tendency to squeal during experiments. I.e., it was an insult. Ange keeps it anyway.

  • Name: Nathaniel "Nate" Faire
  • Epithet: Life-Hunter
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: Nate Faire is a handsome, tall and quite lean and muscular young man with the kind of features that might indicate a future in modeling. A natural sort of pout and pretty face, wavy dark brown hair and bright blue eyes, Nate has the sort of look that puts the mind at ease and takes advantage of those who assume beauty equates to some form of goodness. The only thing not pretty about him is the scar just below his collar bone, an ugly looking one that he covers up with his preferred polo shirts. He wears jeans or slacks and sneaker shoes, usually in typical and straight laced, light colors.
  • Personality: Nathaniel Faire might seem like the natural leader. He's courageous, resourceful, intelligent, acts kind and understanding, and is capable of great daring. Under the surface however Nathaniel is a cunning and vain man who desperately does not want to get old like the scientists he was exposed to, or like his parents. Nathaniel hates ugliness and age, fearing it more than anything else. His powers thus greatly shape his personality. He'll be the first to say that he considers himself "suited to be a doctor, or a physician" - though not for any sort of good reason. He's well aware he's handsome and charming, and while he doesn't overplay it as much as some others, there's always at least some small tell of his true nature. He hides it, but not entirely.
  • Ability: Nate's ability is a strange psionic aura that he can manifest (usually in the form of white smoke), giving him the ability to pull life force from people he touches or which the aura touches. This has the effect of weakening and prematurely aging his target, which can go all the way to death - while he can also then use that stored vitality to heal himself or, potentially down the line, restore his own youth, or apply it to someone else to do likewise.
  • Skills: Nate is resourceful, cunning and charming - he can lead very well on the basis of his own personal charisma. He's a decent hand to hand fighter, even if he prefers not to have a fight drag on too long. While he's good at leadership skills, his particular leadership style trends toward the more merciless toward enemies.
  • Background:
    • Nathaniel comes from a rather auspicious old family from the East Coast, the Faire Family. There have been a number of rather infamous members of the family, and rumors of witchcraft and dabbling in dark practices have dogged the family for years. Nate is particularly sensitive to these sordid stories, and stubbornly insists that it's all lies by the family's enemies to slander them. But then, before he was brought in, Nate did live in a big dark mansion in Maine. And he did have a peculiar record of his friends going missing and requiring new ones every three or four weeks...
    • Nathaniel was brought into Vexcorp at the age of 10, after one too many playmates went missing. While at first very rebellious - turning one researcher who got too close into a mummified carcass - he acclimated and seemed to withdraw into himself. Seemed.
    • He grew into strength and a sort of courage as he stayed there, and in fact he was planning his own escape when Charlie sprung everyone. Nathaniel presented himself as grateful, but deep down resented his own savior for interrupting in that way. Still, Nate is not one to look a gift horse in the mouth - and he readily escaped, eager to lead the other subjects of Vexcorp into freedom and safety from the company. And if that means he grows in power and influence, well, that's just fine too.

  • Name: Erik Clydewell/"Axel"
  • Epithet: Warpout
  • Age: 25
  • Appearance: Erik on the bottom, Axel on the top.
  • Personality: Erik is a kind, quiet, content boy who barely speaks above a kind whisper when it comes to interaction with people. He dislikes conflict, and is eager to help people when they need assistance with anything. He also, passionately, viciously, despises Axel.
    • Axel, on the other hand, is completely and utterly psychotic. He's sociopathic and enjoys seeing people in pain, especially if he's the one causing it. He's got a twisted sense of humor, smiles a lot and showing off a lot of teeth and giggles a lot when he sees misfortune. He sees Erik as a weakling but still needs him to even be.
  • Ability: In a unique sense, AXEL is the one of the personalities that can actually use the ability for them. He can teleport anywhere in a 15 foot radius that he can see. But if he cannot see a destination, he cannot teleport to it. If he spams it, however, he can burn himself out very quickly, resulting in him needing to take a moment to breath and recuperate.
  • Skills: Erik is very skilled in first aid and patching people up, and is very skilled when it comes to anatomy of the people around him. In addition to that, he's decently skilled at hacking, should the need ever arise. Axel, on the other hand, is very quick thinking, and disgustingly skilled with a knife, knowing exactly where it needs to go to make lasting, but non-fatal wounds.
  • Background: Erik doesn't remember a single time he wasn't at Vexcorp. After disappearing, and reappearing, several times in their home, his brother called the police to report the strange phenomena, and while they didn't do much, it did catch the attention of Vex Corp. It didn't take long for them to find him and bring him back with them, intent on getting him to understand and use his powers much better. However, given how young he was, it didn't manifest properly due to the immense fear he felt from a new environment, new people around him, poking and prodding him to get him to use a power he didn't know how to control. This encouraged them to begin more aggressive measures, thinking that the teleportation could be manifested through enough pain subjugation. But it still didn't work, and so they upped the experimentation. Erik, not knowing why his life had changed from something happy to...this...his mind split apart into something that COULD fathom it for him: Axel. Axel played willingly with the Vex Corp goons, doing everything in his power to stay under the radar as possible...and then the breakout began, and Axel immediately set upon the world to freedom. Originally, he wanted to cause as much chaos, mayhem and strife, but Erik managed to convince him to take that frustration and anger out on Vex Corp...and he promised afterwards, they'd do whatever he pleased, but for now? Vexcorp needed to go down. And Axel, in a moment of shocking development, agreed with him.

Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?

WIP

Name: Walter Lee Dahlgren

Epithet: Tunguska

Age: 17

Appearance: Walter is a tall, heavy-set young Latino man with a slight gut (think high-school lineman). His dark brown hair is cut very short (except for a large, ugly scar curling down across his head and over his face). Walter has soft, kind-looking green eyes (even when he’s angry, which is somehow worse) and a mellifluous voice with a southern accent.

Personality: He’s very polite and kind-hearted, always willing to go out of his way to help others and be friendly. He also hates cruelty and meanness, and can generally be dismissed as a gentle, easygoing person. As well, Walter has an interest in exploring and finding out about other people that is usually friendly and innocent. He’s also a very good team player and of course can appreciate the contributions of others and really just wants everyone to get along to the point of using his power to humiliate or insult others if they're too rude. However, Walter also has an iron-hard drive to do whatever is needed to become stronger, an implacable desire to do what’s “right” in his mind, and no real regrets about using his power to fulfill his wishes and beliefs. Walter also wants to return to Vexcorp, believing that they “stunted” his power and will of course try to sabotage any attempt to destroy the company before he gets what he wants, as well as due to lingering fondness for his time there. Deep down he wants to be the person he thinks his parents wanted/deserved. Thanks to his powers, Walter is also a little physically lazy.

Ability: Pyrokinesis: He can generate heat and start/control fires by simple mental commands. He’s also immune to his own smoke and fire. So far he’s not terribly skilled since it’s a hard power to keep a secret if he uses it in public.

Skills: Walter’s been in enough fights to know what to do. He's also a voracious reader and pretty good at magic.

Background: Background: A common cliché is that a person who later does amazing things was just an “ordinary person.” Walter Dahlgren was not. Raised by two scientists who worked at Vexcorp, his parents believed that he would be an extraordinary child based simply on their own achievements and record-high intellects. Consequently, he was offered his choice of fields of study and play so that he could find his passion. Walter’s first love turned out to be magic tricks, and he spent countless hours with a deck of cards, a silk scarf, and other tools to learn everything he could about them. While he did evidence some skill with the illusions, it wasn’t to the degree his parents had hoped, and soon he was “encouraged” to try out other hobbies. Here is where disaster (in his parents’ mind) struck-young Walter was diagnosed as being of only “ordinary” intelligence by a work associate they’d asked to test him. Gone were their dreams of Harvard, Yale and Reed, of a whole family of brilliant thinkers. While they didn’t abandon or love Walter any less, he understood that he had somehow failed them, and made a vow that he *would* find a way to become someone they could respect and feel pride in one day.

Matters became worse when the young man was observed giving a young man a light for his cigarette and heating another person's coffee. After a few quiet words with the parents, he was inducted into their psychic testing program, where his willingness to work and high status of his parents at first protected him from the worst abuses suffered by his peers. This, however, didn’t last, and eventually he was brought to a holding cell. Up until this time Walter had been smart enough to keep his power confined to only making very small fires, and even that only for a limited time. But the tests became more intense and difficult, and he had the sense that Dr. Carver suspected he was holding back. So he came up with a brilliant escape plan after he was submitted to some “voluntary” brain surgery.

Which was shot to hell by Charlie Newcastle.
