Getter Arc 2021 - The final chapter of the manga is now being animated

And there we go. Mc Donald give Kamui the plans to a powerful future mech called Bug, continuing the Cycle of Vengeance / Stable Time Loop that has put them in this situation. Whether Getter would have always attacked them or humanity is only serving it due to them attacking humanity is hard to tell. What is easy to see is that both sides are now completely devoted to destroying the other.

Now we're really in big point

And so Kamui's attack begins. I have to ask, is the part where Baku stays with Emperor something that happens in the Arc manga? I know that Getter isn't necessarily evil and all, but the idea there might be another path seems hard to believe.

Things have changed this timeline already. From Shin Tarak to the continued existence of the Getter Go machines, Baku's choice to stick around and learn about the Emperor is tied to the new path the Getter Rays are looking for.

Maybe Getter itself doesn't' care for it's current path and wants to find a new one.

In the manga, it cuts from the Getter crew heading back straight to Kamui overthrowing the Dinosaur Empire. It then cuts again to a half destroyed Getter Arc being menaced by BUG as Dragon emerges from underground.

And that's how the manga ends.

So we may get some expansion then? Do you think they are gonna try and write their own ending? Maybe Ishikawa had some notes that could be used to construct something plausible?

I think the final episode just aired:

It's a Bolivian Army Ending. After Dragon is released from it's containment by Hayato it cuts to the ending theme (an actual ending theme mind you) with Baku and Takuma on Mars, where they find Kamui in a Cell. They ask him to fight with them against the future they saw, and jump into Arc to take on what appears to be an Emperor version of Classic Getter Robo (possibly piloted by Ryoma), all while an instrumental rendition of Ima No Sono Toki Da plays in the background.

I guess considering how things went in the real world, there wasn't much of a way for them to expand on things. They had nothing to work with really.

After all, from what I recall, Ken Ishikawa didn't leave any notes, hence why nobody tried to 'finish' or adapt Arc sooner. Both out of respect he died, but also because they had no clue where he intended the finale to go. Whatever notes were left, were adapted for one of the Spin-Offs I think. Honestly, if this IS the end and they aren't planning something to continue where this leaves off; I'm okay with it as I was prepared they'd straight up adapt the manga and leave it at its original conclusion. That said the finale is a BIG tease, and maybe they did so both as an homage to Getter's themes of comradery from the original 1974 series, as well as leave it open for the future. I must say Arc is wonderful, as an adaption it does many things right, with few complaints from me that are more nitpicks in the overall scheme. Where they expanded the story was great, reintroducing characters the original manga, never addressed their fates, like Sho Tachibana, when given her key role in Getter Go, you'd think unless she died offscreen (which would suck), she'd be along for the ride knowing the pluses and pitfalls of Getter. Baku also getting more development was welcome as he kind of got shafted.

Honestly, this makes me want manga accurate (with the right tweaks to fix what little bumps there were in the originals) remakes of Getter Robo and Getter Robo G, as well as a proper adaption of Getter Go and Shin Getter to round out Arc. Although Arc's inclusion of story view points of Go and Shin are probably the best we're gonna get and I'm fine with that.

This was fun. I was hoping they'd take it a little further, but ending it here is fine and probably more appropriate.

Genuinely sad, but understanding about the ending. The mistery of the Getter Rays is so big that even us will be wondering about it

And thus Takuma follows his dad and confronts the biggest Getter in order to change the future. (Ryoma did exactly the same thing in New Getter OVA, charging the Saint Dragon Getter to avert the bad future)

So, what happened to Gai from Getter Robo Go?

I know most Getter 3 Pilots died (though Baku seems to have averted that), but I don't remember what hearing his fate has been.

Gai was absorbed by the Getter.

Oh.

Well, it's either, killed in an explosion, or absorbed isn't it?

Specifically, he tried to suicide bomb Shin Getter after riding in it once and seeing the truth of Getter Rays and Getter Emperor. He did enough damage that it would have prevented Shin from launching, but Shin absorbed his body into the hole he made and repaired itself. As he was absorbed, Gai went full "Getter is evolution, Getter is life."

Wow.

See Aliens. Nobody wants Getter Emperor to be a thing. Maybe if you stopped trying to murder humanity and just talked it out, they wouldn't keep building Getters to protect themselves.

Even Kamui got Genre Blind for a while there when the fact that he saw the future (and even Baku and Takuma weren't pleased about it) meant that this was a chance to prevent that future.

I'm just so annoyed that none of these dudes see that their actions give birth to the very threat they want to stop.

I honestly think it's just that they hate humanity and think they are inferior, so see no reason to talk things out with them.

BTW, said ride in Shin Getter nearly absorbed everyone inside and exposed all of the pilots to the truth of Getter Emperor. Messiah went full "Getter is evolution, Getter is life," immediately. Ryouma and Gou agreed to pilot Shin one more time on the condition that they destroy it afterward. Kei (Gou's last minute cute, plucky love interest) mentally reverted to a fetus and went into an irreversible vegetative state. And Gai was driven mad by the experience, vowing to destroy Shin at any cost.

I can believe Kamui's turn, honestly. His alliance was always shaky at best, and we were never given any indication that he wasnt going to go through with the plan to betray the humans.

Plus, his species is the one in the direct line to extinction. Getter is a existential threat to his people and himself.
