Alux: A Self Help Channel That Hates Poor People

The bizarre part of listening to the parts of the video where they were listing the reasons why poor people are poor was that sometimes they were hitting on the system reasons for why. So like... what even is their point?

The core concept of Alux seems to be telling poor people that they should do everything in their power to become rich (and it's possible for them to do so). The systemic issues facing them are framed not as impassable walls but as reasons to stop being poor

I love for people making fun of MatPat's inability to grasp a point.

He does it purpose I'm telling you because it draws in views

Oh for sure. That and well when you make your business to have "Surprising" takes about everything you're bound to end up grasping at straws more often than not.

I remember watching Game Theory and Film Theory for years, but I finally stopped after saying to myself, "yeah, these are fun, but mostly just wrong". I remember his Hollow Knight stuff being so off-base that Mossbag, one of the lore experts of that community, made like a 40 minute rebuttal video.

Good times.

I have to echo Joel's sentiments though. It's not that I dislike Mat Pat or his content. His business acumen has made him wealthy, and he seems like a nice enough guy. It's just, eh, I grew past being interested by the stuff he put out.

MatPat's stuff was pretty obviously designed to be more entertaining than correct from pretty early on. Like, Mario being evil was one of his first videos that blew up, and that's... not a take well supported by the source material

The weird, neoliberal politics are news to me, though
