Largely-Joking theory: Yoda's species are the products of Light-Side alchemy. You see, when the Sith play with it you get zombie-Palps and Snoke. But when the Jedi do it, you get Baby Yoda. And this is different from regular genetic engineering, which causes them to look a bit more natural.

So far, various outlets have released pretty much the entire roster of directors for next season (especially if some people are directing more than one episode).

Favreau returns, along with Filoni and Famuwiya.

Carl Weathers will be directing an episode in season 2, which will probably be light on his character, one way or the other.

Other new directors that have been confirmed are Robert Rodrigeuz along with Peyton Reed.

With the Taika Waititi news, I'm starting to think that Disney is using this show to audition directors for the feature films.

Well, someone (might have been Filoni) in the Disney Gallery episode about the directors did describe the show as "Star Wars school."

I'm not surprised, really. Disney's probably wanting directors that know what they're doing to help with future movies so we don't end up with more JJ-Jonson-JJ trilogies that are wildly inconsistent.

I think Abrams and Johnson knew exactly what they were doing. They just weren't used right. (Mind you, I'm not convinced Abrams can be used right.)

but HOW?

'The Mandalorian': Temuera Morrison Returns to 'Star Wars' Universe to Play Boba Fett (Exclusive)

Not the biggest surprise, if you ask me.

[up] I mean, which is pretty much why I'm not surprised. The spurs are what tipped a lot of people off.

It's also worth remembering that Boba was never confirmed to have died either.

I read the first Aftermath novel when it was published, and there's a vignette about someone having recovered Boba's armor, so yeah, it seemed like Disney was hinting he'd survived the pit.

I hadn't heard it was confirmed he was playing Boba. Some people seem to be speculating he could be playing Rex, to tie in with the Ahsoka theories.

I mean I'm fine with either, TBH; as overhyped as I now realize Boba is I can't deny that I was and still sort of am a huge fanboy.

[up] Honestly, the Boba hate always annoyed me more than the hype - mainly because it sometimes felt like people didn't even watch Empire Strikes Back. tongue

I think they struck a good balance with him in TCW. He was very competent for his age, but he wasn't some uber-badass yet. So I think they'll continue that here, keeping him from being a story-breaker without screwing him over to make Dyn look better.

On Temuera playing Rex (or any other clone): There's no reason he can't do both, technically.

[up] Except that Rex would look much older than Boba on account of the accelerated aging.

I've always equated Phasma with the OT's Boba Fett.

In that, much like him (despite what fans think), she stands around to look cool, gets one or two cool moments, then falls down a pit. Hell, Phasma had more lines than he did, too.

[up] Phasma was supposed to be the new Boba Fett, but she kinda failed at that.

"Boba Fett did nothing" is pretty much a stupid meme that makes you wonder if the people using it never watched ESB.

All he did in ESB was track down Han's ship and stand around looking badass. That's not much to write home about.

Phasma can't be the new Boba Fett if she failed so much at looking cool.

[up][up] "All he did was do his job competently" is a really weird thing to say, to be honest.

[up] Her actions were also actively detrimental to her employers - Boba Fett went and did the job he was paid to do after Vader's own subordinates kept screwing up. Meanwhile Phasma directly caused the destruction of Starkiller Base.

[up][up]Chrome is cool. :|

Also she was actually relevant to someone's character arc, so she's got a leg up on OT Boba anyways.

[up]Dude, being competent at your job should be the minimum requirement. It takes more than that to impress me.

[up] Considering how the Boba Fett hatedom's whole argument is "he didn't do shit", it bears repeating that he did actually do things.

Not to mention that he also ties into Han Solo's character arc - not only does he capture him for the Empire, he also delivers him to Jabba to collect the bounty Han incurred between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Boba Fett's appearance is a direct consequence of Han Solo choosing to help the Rebels instead of immediately leaving and clearing his debts.

There's also the fact that Vader treats him relatively respectfully, even offering him recompense in case Han dies from the freezing process instead of just going "tough shit" like he did with Lando regarding their deal.

When people say he didn't do much, I seriously can't see where this is coming from and have to ask: What exactly did people want him to do then?

Die, as befits a glorified mook killed off onscreen.

See, the disconnect is that you're looking at this through the lens of, "What more could Boba Fett have done to prove to his detractors what an amazing character he is?"

But his detractors aren't asking for more out of the character. The question his detractors have is, "Why is everyone making such a big deal out of this extremely minor nobody of a character?" He didn't need to do more. The minor role he already had was enough, because he is a minor character.

[up] Actually, the lens I'm looking through is "Where's all the bloody hate for that character coming from?"

Seriously, for all the complaints I hear about how overhyped Boba Fett is, I barely see the hype - what I DO see en masse are people complaining about the hype.

At this point "Boba Fett is an overhyped character who barely did anything" is just a meme - an overdone one on top of that.
