Well, it's about damn time.
And now we wait for casting news. Looks like the showrunner will be Allan Heinberg, who isn't bad. He wrote the Wonder Woman movie and also created the Young Avengers. I do hope that they get Neil Gaiman to write for the show — he's shown that he's good at adapting his own work in both American Gods and Good Omens.
David Goyer's involvement has me cautious after his work on the DCEU...but it's good to see Gaiman will be involved as well.
It looks like Goyer is an executive producer because of his prior involvement with trying to adapt Sandman.
Neil Gaiman tweets about what to expect from the show. The first season is eleven episodes and will adapt Preludes & Nocturnes and a bit more, it will be updated for the modern day (as opposed to the late '80s and early '90s when the comic came out), and they haven't written anything yet.
Straight from DC FanDome, Neil discusses how the Netflix Sandman show has been coming along. Sure enough, the ongoing pandemic got the whole universe on pause, so they took advantage of the pause to further polish the scripts.
But now that the pause button is getting relaxed, they'll be getting back to it.
Who do we know that can be a gorgeous goth?
Wake me up at your own risk.I feel like Death's the role Zooey Deschanel was born to play.
It's been 3000 years…Looks like we've got some casting news.

Tom Sturridge is Dream, Gwendoline Christie is Lucifer, Vivienee Acheampong is Lucienne, Charles Dance is Roderick Burgess, Boyd Holbrook is the Corinthian, Asim Chaudry is Abel, and Sanjeev Bhaskar is Cain.
No news about Death yet, or some others, but I'm sure that's coming in the future.
Anyone else think Evan Rachel Wood would kill it as Desire? "Androgynously sexy" is kind of a thing she does.
Might be better to get an actual nonbinary actor though.
Boyd Holbrook as Corinthian and Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess is pretty inspired.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Be interesting to see how they pull off Corinthian's "eyes" in live action. Something about it really gives me the creeps in a super visceral way.
And he's also gay which is probably going to earn some hot takes if they stick with it.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I always thought◊ this kind of gif◊ showed a nice approach to the effect.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Well that was horrifying. So pretty accurate.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."That was.....pretty damn horryfing, seriously never show that again, it give me the creep.
I wonder how they will deal with some outstanding stuff that happen in the comic, I mean is kinda why luficer is in name adaptation.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Neil Gaiman has gone on the record that the Sandman Lucifer and the Lucifer from his own show are two entire separate things and beings.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."More casting announcements! Including Death and Desire!
It's pretty lengthy, so expect this post to get edited a lot.

Thewlis as Dee could be absolutely inspired. Wouldn't have thought of Patton Oswalt for his part either but it could be interesting too.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I actually find it hilarious that Patton Oswalt can say he's both a mental organism designed only for killing and a talking raven.
I'm also surprised we're getting a Johanna Constantine rather than John, but I guess John's still on Legends of Tomorrow over at The CW and there's probably a mandate over him so they figured "hey, let's work this to our advantage." Fun fact: in the comics, John actually has an ancestor named Johanna.
EDIT: Uhhh, how do we not have a page for the MODOK cartoon on Hulu? Never mind, I found it.

I believe Sandman Johanna is actually the Johanna from the comics.
Also yay on casting a nonbinary actor as Desire.
The usual suspects (i.e. butthurt reactionary dickheads) have already been complaining about that, and that Death is no longer white. In a rather refreshingly blunt response Gaiman has near enough straight up told them they're wrong, and to fuck off.

"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."The screaming from Totally Not Racist People on Death has been something.
The best thing is I guarantee you that they havent read the comic which is super progressive.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It's got a few problematic ideas but given it's age and how much society has changed it's held up well all things considered inclusivity/progression wise
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."
'Member how Neil Gaiman wanted to get an adaptation of The Sandman going but nothing ever happened?
Ooh, I 'member!
Well it's happening as a series on Netflix!
