Imagine our world with our history went its course but people can bend the four elements of fire, air, water and earth for so long, it’s Older Than Dirt. Nonbenders still exists and of course, the Avatar exists and has reinacarnated throughout history.

So that’s what this forum is for, to see how human history would have changed and played out if bending was present. Of course, we have a bit of groundwork to follow:

  • Despite bending’s presence, it doesn’t change the core of the events like World War II, the Crusades, or the Beatles. We’ll be discussing how the events played out with bending present and there will be some obvious deviations but the outcomes will be mostly the same.
  • Historical figures can be turned into benders but don’t go overboard. Nonbenders exist too.
  • Several elements from the original Avatar universe have been removed like the common hybrid animals, the Four Nations due to how many civilizations litter the planet, and Sozin’s Comet. The Spirit World and the Avatar’s origin story exists however which we will get to eventually.

————————— (damn hypens dont work)

With that said, I will now go over some subjects which I’d like to discuss with those interested:

  • Which Avatars are figures from history? Besides the obvious person who starts with a J, who else is a potential Avatar?
  • How has the presence of bending affected religions? Since Hinduism and other religions believe in Avatars and reincarnation, how has bending and the Avatar spirit affect them?
  • Lastly is trying to figure out which culture has which bending element. I removed the Four Nations due to humanity having so many cultures and nations, it’s hard keep them all segregated in one place. We’ll be trying to figure those out.

And that’s all the beginning topics I have. I have a lot more but we’ll save those for later. Thanks for anyone who came to visit. Time to bring out the cactus juice.

So... where should we even begin the timeline on? The first emergence of the Cro-Magnon? Earlier? Later? We need a starting point to take off from.

I’m thinking we should start during Wan’s origin because normal evolution likely still happened in Avatar, Vaatu says he witnessed humanity’s formation

This sounds like you're trying to create a Masquerade without a masquerade and in the process take all the consequences out of being a bender or an Avatar.

Personally, if you remove the "culture = bending" aspect of the elemental powers and just have all types of benders be in all the known cultures, that would be GREAT. You could still have separate elemental schools/temples/universities to actually teach the benders their necessary skills, but the more international areas would be FULL of different ethnicities and religions, and even the nation-specific ones would still have to figure out how to make the different benders be civil—maybe by enforcing the schools/temples as neutral territory.

Now, PROPORTIONS of specific benders would undoubtedly be affected depending on environment and climate—you probably can't get many waterbenders in a desert, but the handful that manage to get born would probably be very treasured (and significantly more skilled because water isn't everywhere and they have to get creative). Similarly, firebenders would be rare in snowy countries or island countries... unless you ALSO happen to live near volcanoes, like Iceland or the Pacific Ring of Fire.
