Video uploading

Yeah, I was thinking of maybe having it as something parallel to the Image Links pages.

• There will only be one video visible on a page at any time regardless of how many are linked to it. While the video control may impact load times, the video itself will not begin playing until it becomes visible on the screen. These factors should limit any performance impact.
• The Recent Videos page links to both the article and to the video in question.

Having the video link also act as a cross-reference to the work article would be interesting. I'd like to see that, too.

I just figured it would be more convenient if somebody finds a clip interesting and wants to check out the work in question.

If it means anything, Wikia/Fandom is disabling those videos for logged-in users.

The video autoplays (thankfully silently), as soon as it's scrolled to. I don't like this, and I strongly hope this isn't the case on mobile.

Edit: You know the bit about disabling autoplay in your profile? The newspost should mention that.

Edit2: Also, why is it opt-out in the first place? The fact the checkbox starts with "stop" should have clued you in.

You can actually turn that off on your profile. I have it off.

So how does video suggestion work? Do we just upload any video to a page?

How do I replace a video with a higher-quality version, should the situation arise?

Something that hasn't be answered yet: is this only for trope pages or can videos be added on work pages as well?

The answer is back there somewhere. It's intended for tropes. There's nothing preventing it from being used on work pages, however.

If it's possible to upload a video with the intention of linking to it instead of using it as a trope image, I could see this gradually replacing our dependency on YouTube clips that have long since been removed when the user got banned for trying to post entire Family Guy episodes.

As for copyright concerns, that should never become a huge deal since people don't go on here specifically to watch stuff like they did with YouTube, nor is there going to be a gallery of all the videos that people can just thumb through. It would be hard for a copyright troll to even find a clip from a specific thing if they were looking for it. And on the off-chance they do decide to give us a hard time, that's what the DMCA safe harbor is for. We can just start a DNP list eventually.

Very interesting idea. Why is it at the very bottom of the page though? Seems very easy to miss there.

Take a glance through this thread and be glad the videos are at the bottom, and only autoplay when you get to them. I can't imagine the unending (and not unwarranted) complaints that would ensue if they were anywhere more prominent.

Um, I can't actually seem to watch any of these videos? I'm clicking on them, they just won't play. Is this just me? I'm using the windows edge OS and the Chrome browser

So when is Main.Video Source going to be created?

I'm getting pretty tired of TropeCorp turning this site into a clone of every other wiki in existence.

Being passive aggressive about it isn't going to make them change anything, you know.

I'm in favor of having video examples for a lot of video works that may not always be as easily explained with text.

However count me as one who thinks it should be its own page instead of at the bottom of the trope (and/or work) page.

It's nice to have an option to disable autoplay, but can we have an option to get rid of them entirely? I would like to be able to completely ignore the existence of videos without having to actively stop myself from going to the bottom of the page.

I don't know if Video Source is a good idea. One trope can potentially have multiple videos, so it might make for a really long and hard-to-maintain list.

I thought of that. I was thinking of just listing the main video so it wouldn't get crazy long.
