The blog is in Finnish, so I have no idea how useful it would be to you
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleI don’t know if there’s a more direct source, but the documentary The Battle of Chernobyl has a translated interview with Belarusian nuclear physicist Vassili Nesterenko who apparently states that there were fears the steam explosion could have been 3 to 5 megatons. He could have just been wrong, purposely overstating the hypothetical impact of a worst case scenario, or misinterpreted, but the man himself is real and he indeed was involved in the handling of the Chernobyl accident.
Here's the poem from the beginning of Episode 2, if anyone is interested.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)Annnndddd apparently the Russian government and Komsomolskaya Pravda (a newspaper) are going the Fomin and Dyatlov route and say the series is lies, propaganda and made by enemies of Rossatom.
According to NTV, they are planning to make their own Chernobyl series about how CIA sent a saboteur to the place.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.About the series they are planning, this is the best I could find.

As for the claims of a saboteur, I haven't really looked into it, I admit. I'm kinda afraid to because I suspect it would be difficult to discern any actual source to that effect.
It's a fringe conspiracy theory - the author of the article said as much.
Because clearly the great Soviet Union could do no wrong - everything has to be the fault of evil westerners.

Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.Yeah I suspected as much too. Like said in my previous post, they are going full Dyatlov.
Glad to see that in 20+ years nothing has changed in Russia.
Yeah what surprised me in this is that at least Gorbachev admits the disaster and the mad scramble to hush it up was one big nail in the coffin of the USSR, so call me naive but I thought they were done with lies about this topic.
Gorbatchev was (and still is) one of the Legasovs of the fading Soviet Union. Sadly, Russia is currently is firmly in the grasp of a pack of Dyatlovs.
As for the final episode: Extremely moving, is all I can say. The scene Legasov tells Boris he was the one who mattered the most almost brought me to tears.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."The part that got me almost crying was "The doctors told Lyudmilla she would never be able to carry a child to term. They were wrong. She has a son and they live in Kiev."
Lived in Kiev, both of them are dead now I believe, both still from radiation-related causes.
Yeah I read they both had issues... can't remember the wording of the epilogue tile (for lack of a better word).
Nope. You had the Epilogue correct. I kind of felt like the explanation was a bit deceptive and hopeful when... while, yeah, she had a kid again, they BOTH suffered from long term issues due to the radiation poisoning. Which feels like still fits within the story of Chernobyl. I don't understand quite why they chose to omit that information, but I also suppose it might have simply been missed when her story ended two episodes ago.
I feel like the messages of this show are incredibly relevant today. Unfortunately.
Yeah, especially considering Russia's reaction to it, which basically proved to me that the country is still the Soviet Union in many ways, even if their name is Russia again.
It is no coincidence, after all, that Gorbatchev detests Putin and everything he stands for. He knew firsthand what the old Soviet authoritarian system did and did his best to move past it, while Putin actively longs for it and is bringing it back day by day.
The show has been on my mind these days. Legasov saying "what is the cost of lies?" often comes to mind.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I am reminded of what Mazin said to a right wing pundit when the show first came out. This is extremely relevant right now.
You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the midAm Australian, been feeling the big same since the last bushfire season.
Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)And I saw a lot of people mentioning this show, especially the "cost of lies" quote, in regards to the COVID pandemic.
I think this show might become immortal.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Believe me, the PRC's mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak has ensured that "What is the cost of lies?" becomes the tagline for the decade.
Thank you! ...Wow. Terrible page topper.
And, yes, I miss-remembered the episode. My b.
