Splitting up the Resident Evil 2 pages?

I hope this is the right forum...With the launch of the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, the game's page and its subpages have exploded in content, becoming almost Trope Overdosed. Given just how massive the pages now are, and how clearly the tropes and entries for the different versions are defined, should the page maybe be split into separate pages for the 1998 and 2019 games?

This would probably be a good idea. Resident Evil 2 (1998) and Resident Evil 2 (2019) should be the new pages, with the original Resident Evil 2 page being turned into a disambiguation page.

Yeah, it's a good split idea.

How do we get the powers that be to weigh in on this matter, then? I don't want to make a split if I think it'll get me banned for doing so.

Splitting and disambiguating by year is not the way to go here. To clarify for those who haven't heard of this, it isn't an original/sequel with the same title. It's a full remake with radically different game mechanics.

See the other ways we've handled remakes:

  • Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen are listed as a second section on Pokémon Red and Blue's page. This is due to the remake being essentially the same game on a newer "engine." (See also Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc.)
  • Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia shares its page with the game it's a remake of (Fire Emblem Gaiden). Tropes are not split, making the information on the remake drown out the original. This is a bad thing. Do not do this.
  • Metroid: Zero Mission, Final Fantasy VII Remake, etc. have their own pages, due to making large changes to the gameplay and/or story.

If we handle this the same way as we have in the past, separate pages for the Resident Evil 2 original and remake would be troped the same way as in a normal page split. That format is something along the lines of ResidentEvil2.Original Game Tropes and ResidentEvil2.Remake Tropes, though this requires a new "namespace" to be created and it's generally seen as a kludge.

Alternatively, spin off the latter as VideoGame.Resident Evil 2 Remake (the same way as FFVII above.) The tropes from the original, as well as plot tropes shared by both versions, would remain at VideoGame.Resident Evil 2.

Well, I was kind of hoping to get one of the Officials in here to comment or to make the split, but I guess that it's time to bite the bullet. Here's hoping I don't get kicked off TV Tropes for this...

Umm... blessing given? We usually only need to get involved if there's a disagreement about the proper action.

...Ah. I see. Sorry, I was just a little worried about overstepping my boundaries. I've done the grunt work of shifting over all of the standard subpages; I just need to refresh myself on some details and I'll try my hand at a proper Remake recap page. They all still need to be indexed, though.

[up][up][up][up] There's a big difference between those you've listed and RE 2: none of your list has identical titles with its original game.

(Final Fantasy VII Remake is the actual, official title of the remake of Final Fantasy VII, not a remake titled Final Fantasy VII.)

I'm not implying "Resident Evil 2 Remake" is the actual title, it's just being used that way for disambiguation. (FFVII's remake will also probably be called just Final Fantasy VII when it eventually comes out, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.)

(Didn't I just get into this same argument with Ghostbusters?)

[up] No, "Final Fantasy VII Remake" is the title, there's even a logo.

There were logos with Wreck It Ralph 2 when they were first building the hype. Is the work released or unreleased?

To alleviate confusion, Resident Evil 2's remake has released at this time. FFVII's has not.
