My Hero Academia Fanfiction Thread

Well that seems like a reasonable place to put a popular headcanon so good to know I guess?

Here's a thought: It would be reasonable to assume that Hero Schools don't stop at high school level, and that in fact there are universities with heroics education curriculums, right? I bring this up because, considering that Izuku's narration in canon makes him surviving the events of the story and becoming a pro hero a Foregone Conclusion (unless he will "become the world's greatest hero" by committing an epic Heroic Sacrifice at the end, which would make sense but would also be a major bummer), I've been working on a personal vision of what his future as an adult would be like, and it struck me that he does not seem to be the type who would just jump straight into being a pro hero right after high school; in fact, he seems to be the type who would seek out at least a bachelor's degree in business management or something similar if he decided that he should start and run his own hero agency.

All Might went to college after graduating UA, but I don't know if they said what subject he studied.

On a different note, reading MizuTori's An Insecure Violet — in which Izuku has much earlier interactions with Kyouka respectively that leads to not only a close friendship but actual romance forming between them — makes me wonder if it's plausible for Izuku to have a much earlier second meeting with Ochako^note They briefly met before the Entrance Exam when he tripped and she saved him with her Quirk. during the time between the Entrance Exam and Izuku's first day at U.A. High.

I've seen fics that have them meeting earlier. Whether that's really plausible is up for debate. She didn't move to town until she got in; her family lives elsewhere.

I see. Come to think of it, is there even any indication for how much time passed between the end of the Entrance Exam and the first day of school at U.A. High School?

10 months. Izuku finished his training to obtain One For All right on the day of the exam. He started in spring and ended in February, which is right around when the Japanese school year starts.

No, Marq is asking how long it was from the Entrance Exam (the day Midoriya got One For All) to the first day of school. It definitely wasn't ten months.

It was a few days before he got his results back, and then a few days after that was the first day. My guess would be a week, maybe two.

I misread it and you're right.

It can't have been less than a week or two since U.A. gets applications from all over the country.

I've seen fanfics that assume about a month's time rather than just a couple of weeks. Is that plausible?

Speaking of in-universe chronology, what do you think of this fan-made timeline?

And on a different note, for being supposedly born into a famous hero family, there's practically zero talk in canon about Momo's family. What's the most interesting O.C. Stand-in depictions of said family that you guys have seen?

I saw one fic trope page where Momo is Midnight's secret daughter, if that counts. I didn't read the fic, though, because it looks like it goes all Ron the Death Eater on All Might.

We actually meet the Momom in one of the light novels, when Momo has some classmates over for a study session. She looks like an older version of her daughter, loves Jiro's fashion sense but could never pull off the look herself, and bakes the gang cookies that include chocolate, sardines, and a variety of other brain foods.

Does anyone know of any BNHA fanfiction that has significant Deku and Momo interactions?

I'm looking for stuff like Deku giving her advice about her fighting style. Or even just regular friendly interactions.

Preferably friendship based, but I'll take what I can get.

I tried searching AO 3, but most of the times Momo is tagged with Deku it's in a harem fic. Which I doubt has what I'm looking for.

Try searching for Todoroki/Momo fics. In those, Midoriya is normally Todoroki's best friend, which typically necessitates at least a little conversation between him and Momo.

You can also search the Midoriya & Momo tag, which is supposed to be for friendshipping. Tag misuse is still a problem, but the MHA fandom seems to know what they're doing on that front. I've noticed that the misuse of that tag tends to vary depending on the fandom.

I didn't think of looking though Todoroki/Momo :)

I was more looking for one shots, but I couldn't find anything scrolling though a few pages of the "&" tag.

So that might be the way to go. I'll check them out at some point, since it'll take longer.

Its kind of strange. I feel like I'm much more picky with Hero Aca fics than other fandoms for some reason.

Any good Izu Ocha fics? MHA doesn't really focus on romance so I'm looking for something to fill that gap.

I hear you on that one. Deku/Bakugo and Bakugo/Oochako are both are more popular, and when Deku/Oochako shows up it's usually as a background to a different main romance. I actually haven't found a decent Deku/Oochako fic.

Did start reading Yesterday Upon The Stair recently, which is wonderful. Deku's Quirk lets him see dead people. Think The Sixth Sense except the protagonist realized he could help these people who are constantly haunting him. This also means that Nana is a major character, since she's been hanging around All Might since she died and then Deku showed up.

An author on Archive of our Own known as SevenRenny has done some IzuOcha fics like The Toughest Job, Show Me How, and Try To Live, With Me, For You, And For Me to name a few.

There's also My Hero Academia: Green Tea Tales.

One I remember was When I'm Gone where All Might dies. It does suffer from Outdated by Canon and more focuses on Izuku though there's still focus on him and Ochako.

There's also this whole list on Reddit too.

I think I previously mentioned A What If which had some chapters like the first chapter have Izuku and Ochako as a couple.

Yesterday Upon The Stair is pretty interesting yeah. I am not sure why the main MHA thread disliked it so much. Izuku isn't really that edgy in that fic and his characterization is still recognizably him despite having an unusual quirk.

For me, I gave up on it when I realized how little about the plot actually changed for the longest time. I think the major deviations only really began by the Shie Hassaikai arc, aka, the last arc of the fic. Aside from that, Izuku had an I See Dead People Quirk was just window dressing.

Oh thats a fair criticism. Thats an issue a lot of fanfics have in this fandom and it gets on my nerves a lot these days.

Admittedly fanfiction in general struggles with that and for an understandable reason as trying to go for original content is hard.

Going too far off canon can also piss people off, unless it's explicitly an AU from the start.

One of the things I liked about Yesterday was that it hewed mostly close to canon. Izuku's Quirk is something that could very easily be OP: He can talk to ghosts, and all villains are followed by ghosts who are more than happy to help anyone interested in stopping their murderers. In the hands of a poor writer, that could easily turn into "the ghosts told Izuku exactly where to find the bad guys and all problems were instantly solved" or "Izuku has an army that can tear the bad guys to shreds at his beck and call."

The part where the divergences became most important were the Kamino incident, and it was very well done, but I still liked it before that.

I enjoyed their take on Kamino, that was pretty interesting. The rest of the fic is good, but probably could have benefited from diverging more.

Yeah its a no win situation. If you go too far off from canon you risk alienating people unless your really good at getting people engaged in your plots but if you sit on the rails of canon you also risk alienating people as it can come across as too samey after reading many fanfics that do the same thing.

With that in mind I think that you could possibly enjoy Heroes Never Die It's Hero Time, Falcon. While it does still follow the Stations of the Canon usually, it's not afraid to diverge and you'll see that as early as chapter 2 and especially when you get to the arcs that comprised Season 2 (Sports Festival, Internships, Final Exams).
