[up][up]It's because they don't know the appeal of wrestling is that it's a bizarre form of theater to tell a story. It's an easy misconception to have if you don't know anything about wrestling and just heard the meme about it being fake.

also because some people really enjoy trolling wrestling fans, telling them wrestling is fake is supposed to get an outraged response from them, when in reality they're more likely to go "yeah,so what?"

There's also some generational things going on here.

Like, older people do remember a time when kayfabe was more enforced and wrestling fans insisting it being real did exist. They've become a lot more rare (though I'd reckon some young wrestling fans exist who think it's not staged), but they did exist and as those people aged out of wrestling's demographic, they may be remembering those fans as their primary exposure to wrestling fans.

[down] In that the fights outcomes weren't rigged. Jesus Christ, it is annoying to have to redefine "real" half a dozen times every wrestling conversation.

wrestling fans insisting it being real did exist.

Look people who think the wrestlers based on magical gimmicks are real clearly have issue of their own and its probably not limited to wrestling lol.

Admittedly it could've just been because we were all young children, but growing up in the 90s, there was a lot of genuine arguing among my classmates over whether wrestling was real or fake.

I knew wrestling was staged the instant I saw someone take a piledriver and they were back the next week. Like come on man.

Growing up, the people around me treated it as though it were 100% real and a legitimate sport. I didn't care for the most part. Unfortunately, I did cry "not real" for a time. But now I respect it for the performance it is. I still don't watch it, but its a legit art that people work their asses off to sell.

As an aside, I feel bad for SEW on his Fear & Hunger playthroughs. He's not playing on Hard mode, so he has no idea, just not a clue, whats ahead of him.

Its latest season managed to reach a 7/10 which is good by the metric he reviews things. The previous season didn’t as half the episodes were good but they were countered by the other half being bad.

He also talks about how nostalgia blinds people and that season 6, one of the most beloved seasons and his favorite, was itself looked down upon and viewed badly by fans when it was airing. He had to scrounge around for it but he found the common old reviews of it.

[up][up] His point is that the show is finally trying to carve its own identity and free itself from the shadow of the "golden age", and that the new episodes feel like they actually have something to say. Although it’s still hit-and-miss apparently. The number of jokes has also been reduced significantly compared to seasons 29-30 (from more than 100 per episode to around 60), which means each individual joke is given more time to develop.

I personally have no plans to pick up The Simpsons again, but I'm glad he's making the points he is: the show finally having some good, arguably excellent episodes again is a good thing. And even though pretty much every season is always inevitably going to be compared to the golden years of the show, that comparison isn't necessarily apt.

I think he’s gotten better with it, honestly. It does help that he now has more enthousiastic/goofy bits to balance it out compared to his early vids.

One thing he brings up is that there's been a notable change in how writers are handled for episodes. In the last two seasons, writers are given exactly one episode. The idea is that this would make your one episode more valuable to whoever is working on it. If you have something to say, you get your one to say it. They're also given more leeway in what they can show. Theyve been told they don't have to stick with the conventional idea of what The Simpsons is.

Huh, Napoleon Blownapart. Interesting to see him on the list since SEW and he are pretty similar (or at least I consider them as such, seeing as my introduction to both Youtubers were their "fake martial artist videos that open on a montage of people demonstrating no-touch knockouts and other stake shit set to a loud-ass rock song to the point I can't remember which video had which song.")

Before watching that vid, I'm gonna guess "no".

That said, it's arguably worse that this trash was made by actual humans and not an AI. I feel similarly about Disney's Wish.
