  • Name: Mark Lau Chung-kwok
  • Faction: Concerned Citizen (Royal Hong Kong Police, Special Branch)
  • Weaknesses:
    • His biggest problem is when red tape gets in the way of his SB duties.
    • Can potential run into trouble during plainclothes ops if he runs into people he knows in and around Hong Kong, given that his businessman father is known in the local and expat circle.
  • Skills:
    • Speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English with a bit of a RP accent. Said to be learning another unnamed language.
    • Skilled in handling small arms, most of them due to his time with the RHKR(V).
    • Knowledge of British Hong Kong laws and RHKP rules/regulations.note
    • Experienced in surveillance/anti-surveillance and espionage/counterespionage.
    • Knowledgeable on Hong Kong/American/foreign political issues, thanks to his time as an undergraduate Pol. Sci. student.
  • Equipment:
    • Browning High Power Mark III in various holsters (Shoulder or hip)
    • Handcuffs
    • RHKP badge/warrant card
    • Portable Radio Transreceiver

  • Appearance: Has typical Chinese looks with black hair in a crew cut hair cut a few weeks ago, thanks to his time in the RHKR(V). Has a height of 5'8.
  • Personality: Values discipline a lot thanks to his time with the RHKR(V) and in uniformed detail with the RHKP. Mark really hates it when a plan goes bad, unless there's a reason why it failed (And it needs to be a good one).
  • Background: Born and raised in Hong Kong in the late 40s after the British returned to Hong Kong. His business-oriented family was recovering from the aftermath of the Japanese-led occupation with six siblings (Two older sisters, Two older brothers and a younger sister). He and his siblings were sent to good schools with the purpose of giving him a quality education. After studying for his Bachelors in the US in Political Science, he came back to Hong Kong to serve in the Hong Kong Regiment, where he was deployed in the 1967 pro-leftist riots to support the Hong Kong Police in taking down hostile left groups. He was subsequently stationed in the Berlin Infantry Brigade for a year in Germany before he was given an honourable discharge with the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1.

Mark joined with the Royal Hong Kong Police a year after being discharged, being one of the few Hong Kong-born Chinese residents to actively participate in the organization. After a few years of uniformed detail, Mark was posted at Special Branch, participating in raids against criminals, terrorists and pro-Moscow/Beijing/Pyongyang sympathizers and spies while conducting surveillance/anti-surveillance and espionage/counterespionage operations against infiltration into SB and to take down hostile groups from within.

As of now, Mark is to be officially promoted to Sergeant in his fourth year of service as a (Senior) Constable.

  • Name: Wolfang Richler / Matsuno Kyonori / Many other aliases
  • Faction: Supernatural Creature
  • Abilities: he is very capable at summoning, is surprisingly scientifically apt for what he is - in particular seeming to have a knack for genetic science.
  • Powers: Wolfang's powers are extremely, cosmically significant...but have stipulations at present due to the fallout of his own actions. While technically his powers and nature allow him to shape reality, he is bound by the rules imposed on him. He can simply speak and influence the world and those in it, create sicknesses, curses and blessings, and is by and large immortal - though with a particular sensitivity to certain kinds of sealing. He can influence people down to their very genes and how certain things resulting from and affected by inheritance work. He can even engineer new forms and capabilities for the dead.
  • Weaknesses: However, for all his power, he absolutely cannot kill people unless a threat is made on his life. He has to use his more impressive scale powers by and large in the scope of a wish, and he isn't exactly a well regarded individual - Hong Kong is simply the only place where he hasn't accrued an impressive list of enemies. Mystics in Korea absolutely despise him, for instance. Just as well, his powers have a glaring weak point - until one effect on someone is done, no further effects can be applied. Meaning, if he gives you a sickness or some such, he cannot use ANY other words of power on you.
  • Skills: summoning, scientific knowledge, contacts with certain unscrupulous groups and individuals, by whatever means, he can accrue a large amount of money.
  • Equipment: He carries a cane called Valefor on occasion, which seems to have some effects. He has an odd, "worthless" medallion that he nevertheless never removes - it has sentimental value.
  • Appearance: Wolfang is indeed basically Matsuki's twin oddly enough - but he has a certain effect to his looks that makes him seem too beautiful to be human. As if he was some abomination from a work like the Great God Pan. He mostly prefers fancy clothes, and only occasionally shows a pair of large black feathered wings. These are what truly marks what he is.
  • Personality: For all his power, Wolfang seems to act a good amount of the time like a hedonistic brat. This is a cover - a dismissive half expression of his true nature. Wolfang is entirely devoted to a malignant hedonistic ideology. He desires to create a paradise of earthly pleasures devoted to himself. Wolfang toys with and amuses himself at the flailing and suffering of mortals, enjoying their strife. He uses his powers to toy with and molest the minds and bodies of humans - purely because he can. While he fulfills wishes to the best of his ability, his interpretations of these wishes are either frustratingly literal minded or malicious for his own personal amusement. Beware placing yourself in this creature's power by entering such a compact with him.
  • Background: Wolfang is a vile, old being - while most of his society remained aloof and beyond human reach, those who went to the Earth became known as tyrants, despots and monsters. Wolfang was cast down, apparently, by his own brother Deverez in a power struggle. Wolfang is still tremendously bitter over the experience, as well as the rules imposed on him by his brother to "keep him in line". Wolfang hates Deverez and would be willing to do anything to cut loose the tethers tying the two together. The so called "King of the Sky" as he calls himself has made many enemies, but has recruited a large number of miscreants, malfeasants, and evil beings. Among them are Baron Lugh, as well as Ling-Ling (a panther who became a woman whose limbs and abilities mimic her panther form's abilities), Dosul Yun (a former cult leader), Geng Dan (an ancient Chinese warrior prince brought back from the dead and into Wolfang's service), and Mokul Rho (a strange shapeshifting mass of black tar bound to a mask). Wolfang's time with the Kyonori family is especially secretive, and he's quite tightlipped about it, but what is clear is something extremely skeevy happened, and they were driven out of Japan in disgrace.

  • Name: Baron Lugh Elgrim
  • Faction: Mystic
  • Abilities: Skilled fencer, calligrapher, driver, multi-linguist
  • Powers: Lugh's powers are two-fold, and compliment one another - the first power is his power of illusions. He can trap people in nightmares, create visions of things that are not there, and make highly convincing optical mirages...with one caveat. Owing to his deal with Wolfang Richler, the more people believe in what they see, the more real it becomes.
    • His other power is control of darkness and shadows, letting him create blades, weapons and various forms out of the darkness. The dark blades, tendrils and such look very much like his illusionary versions, which means he can mix in things you only need to believe are not there as well as things you actually need to dodge.
    • Lugh has pacts in place with a number of demons and unfriendly entities that let him bring in some help when Wolfang is running low on manpower. He can have Pretas - unclean spirits - inhabit dead bodies to create a Night of the Living Mooks, and can summon various dark beings.
  • Weaknesses: Excessive light can dispel and weaken his dark magic, and as covered, if you do not believe his illusions are real they cannot hurt you.
  • Skills: capable fencer, Wolfang's "speaker", a deal more of a "people person" at least publicly in comparison to his boss.
  • Equipment: He carries a light foil / estoc type sword on his person, which has been dipped into the waters of an unholy realm. Every wound dealt by this blade worsens over time. He also carries around three or so books detailing summoning and other preparatory dark spells.
  • Appearance: The Baron is a tall, dark figure, shuffling into rooms with utter nonchalance - his skin is pale, his dark hair long, he wears a wide rimmed hat and glasses that seem to exist to disguise the fact his eyes are mostly black. He wears dark clothes by and large, a coat of some sorts over dress clothes. His hands are covered by upper class gloves, which serves to obscure the odd tattoos he has basically covering his arms.
  • Personality: Baron Lugh is mostly quiet, no nonsense, and seemingly stoic - but in spite of this, he merely keeps his emotions low, not played up, and subtle. He's polite, even when acting overtly malicious. He claims there is no call for impoliteness, even when he's going to ensure someone dies. He tries it seems to keep Wolfang from "making a show", though this just seems to be a role he plays in public. Notably, he is one of Wolfang's few minions who is willing to criticize or call out his boss - perhaps a mark of this man's status?
  • Background: Lugh is one of many criminals employed by and "rescued" from justice by Wolfang - he was a British nobleman who seemed to all the world that he was a model family man and patriot. However in the privacy of his mansion, he indulged in ritualistic murder and vile actions that eventually brought investigation and condemnation down upon him. Right when it seemed he would never see the light of day again, Wolfang appeared and rescued him from confinement. From then on, Lugh swore undying loyalty to his lord, and he was rewarded with unprecedented status in Wolfang's operations. If it isn't the black winged devil himself you meet with, it will probably be Lugh.

  • Name: Xiao Shen
    • Faction: Heroic Mystic

  • Abilities:
    • Powers:
      • Spiritual Awareness: Shen has the ability to sense and 'see' the presence of spiritual creatures to a certain extent, appearing as fuzzy approximations of colours and shapes. The more powerful or high-ranking a spirit, the better he can perceive it. Shen can also physically make contact with spirits, for attacking purposes or whatever else, however like his perception the lower ranking the spirit the less tactile he may be able to interact with them. As such, being able to physically touch spirits by extension allows him to harm them using physical means.
      • Spiritual Energy Generation: For reasons he never makes clear to others, (potentially his lineage – he tends to avoid the specifics of the subject like a plague) Shen can produce significant amounts of spiritual energy from his body, which allows him to connect to certain objects from a short distance to use a form of limited telekinesis, create constructs of pure spiritual energy (normally useless against physical threats unless he ups the potency enough) and grant himself the ability of temporary levitation (via the use of large, spiritual wings that cannot be seen to those not inclined to). He can also coat his entire form in a thin protective membrane of spiritual energy, which can allow him to withstand spiritual attacks to a slightly better extent (although it's not reliable and quickly tears away after prolonged punishment, meaning he still has to stay mobile).
      • Deafening Aura: Shen's presence emanates an excruciating, high pitched frequency that seems to cause nausea in anyone or anything spiritually inclined in his immediate vicinity – those able to see spirits would perceive it to be a chaotic wave of rippling energy generating from him endlessly. Intriguingly, the more relaxed he is, the more this aura lessens, and in the event he shows signs of stress, the aura promptly flares in response. Shen has no control over its output.
    • Weaknesses:
      • Spiritual Vulnerability: Naturally, being able to physically interact with spiritual things by extension leaves him vulnerable to being physically interacted with by them. Shen suffers much more damage from a direct strike from a spirit than a normal person would, and has to rely purely on his protective membrane if he can't dodge out of the way. Still, as stated before, his makeshift suit of spiritual armour isn't the strongest one available, and so Shen is constantly having to stay vigilant in battle so as to not let an attack sneak up on him and potentially fatally damage him.
      • Limited Spiritual Generation: Shen can't create much variety in terms of spiritual constructs before feeling the backlash. Anything more than one or two flashy techniques can quickly drain him, so he has to carefully manage his spiritual techniques. Potent as they are, his body simply can't seem to handle the strain, and he can even black out on the spot if he pushes himself too hard.
      • Aura – Double-Edged Sword: Shen's assaulting aura also ends up causing him discomfort in the event it flares in response to stress – though not suffering as much as those on the receiving end, a sudden burst of energy from it has staggered him many a time before, and can leave him open to attack in the case that one can push through the brutal effects of the aura themself. As such, he has to keep his emotions and stress tightly bottled up, lest he risk missing a shot and taking a strike to a vital area while he's vulnerable.
    • Skills:
      • Martial Arts Knowledge: Shen has a fairly wide mastery of close quarters combat styles and techniques, including that of karate, Liuhebafachuan, and Baguazhang, amongst others. In general, he tends to mix styles together to create a single, very fast, highly accurate assault-based style focused on hitting pressure points with tremendous force, although he lacks in the defensive side and has to resort to acrobatics in order to avoid retaliation. Plus there's the fact that he can sometimes get sloppy – his extensive list of known fighting styles means that a good number of them have been neglected usage – so if he desperately tries to switch to a new style he could find himself fumbling uselessly until he gets a decent hold on what he's doing.
      • Strategy and Observation: Perhaps Shen's greatest attribute is his mind. Possessing a highly intuitive and perceptive brain, Shen is constantly thinking to himself and letting his mind keep abuzz even in the middle of battle or casual conversation, which contributes in part to his aloof demeanour and privateness. He is exceptionally skilled at reading his opponent and the environment, nonetheless, and is good at using whatever weaknesses they may have against them.
      • Weapon Usage: While specifically skilled in general marksmanship and specializing especially in small arms, Shen is also good with mêlée, even if he'd rather hang back due to his inability to tank many hits. Still, he uses his acrobatics to the full, treating the weapon like an extension of himself and directly incorporating it into his most advanced movements. While he prefers handguns and pistols as stated before, Shen's choice close range weapons are bo staffs, ge, and occasionally jian.

  • Personality: Shen is curt, to the point, and occasionally rather jaded and cynical. He has a habit of interruption in the events of crises, having the mindset that action prevails over 'pointless' theorizing. Somewhat paradoxically, he enjoys planning beforehand along with playing strategy games in his spare time, yet his preference to avoid the possibilities in favour of the definite facts still prevails prominently. Rarely will he finish a plan if he sees an obstacle impossible to overcome by conventional rationale, unless another comes to point out a more risky solution or presents him with new information. Shen also is mysteriously expressionless and tight lidded, rarely if never letting anyone in or acknowledging them as anything more than mere acquaintances. He seems to dislike being stressed, in fact getting extremely irritable and even brash when in such situations (ironically stressing him out further). Despite all this, he does have a soft side, and occasionally shows it in taking risks for any of his potential closer comrades as long the situation isn't too dire. Above all, Shen is a private, down-to-earth planner who rarely considers taking the time off his work in favour of much needed relaxation.

  • Backstory: Not much is known about Shen's past, as his aloof demeanour has allowed him little conversation with anyone interested in his origins, however he implies that he has a 'mixed' lineage, of what that is he never has specified. What is known of Shen is that he used to work in security, bodyguarding, and most prominently served as a police officer for a few years, before eventually settling on a mercenary-esque job after the manifestation of the supernatural in Hong Kong. Whether or not his powers had always existed with him or only made themselves apparent after the reintegration of magic and spirits into the city is unclear, however it is undeniable that Shen only showcased his abilities after the event had fully occurred rather than any time before. Accepting jobs from anyone concerned with supernatural phenomena plaguing them, Shen is getting a reputation for being quite an effective spiritual hunter, if not for his slight controversy over his air of ambivalence and claiming to work for 'an anonymous backer'. Shen currently resides in an apartment in the mid-to-low income sections of the city, one noticeably decorated in the Feng Shui styles that have seemed to be the focus of many of the recent supernatural anomalies.

I tried my hand at making a different sort of character, someone who still fit with the story at hand but felt wholly unique, both being somewhat of a fish out of water and one of the more neutral characters. If this gets accepted, I'll probably make a sheet for the demon sometime soon.

  • Name: Bruce Long
    • Faction: Neutral/Heroic Mystic (Formerly Concerned Citizen; Powers appeared after entering Hong Kong)
  • Abilities:
    • Powers:
      • Inverse Pyrokinesis:Bruce can control fire, but instead of creating his own, he can manipulate fire created by other sources, including weapons and magic from other people.
      • Direct Energy:Bruce can directly control how much force is applied to an attack, even more than the average human.
    • Weaknesses:
      • Bruce is naturally averse to weapons, so a confrontation with a weapon user leaves him at a disadvantage.
      • Bruce cannot make his own fire, only control what is already present.
      • Bruce can amplify or weaken his attacks, sure, but if enough force is applied, the impact will also damage him.
      • Bruce's abilities only appeared after entering Hong Kong, so he is not as experienced as other Mystics.
    • Skills: (What skills your character has)
      • San Fran's Greatest Detective: Bruce has a knack for investigation and putting two and two together, and while he doesn't have a Friend on the Force in Hong Kong quite yet, he is good at quickly learning the dos and don'ts of a location.
      • Martial Artistry: Bruce has always preferred the satisfaction of punching someone in the face over shooting or slicing them, and his mastery of multiple fighting styles shows that. He is proficient in Boxing, Judo, Jeet Kune Do, as well as smidges of Capoeira and Karate.
      • You Even Lift, Bro?: Bruce, in tandem with his training, is in great shape, being able to lift somewhere between 500~600 pounds.
    • Equipment:
      • Phone: The latest phone model, it has all the bells and whistles. It even has a few match three games and a Gacha to pass the time.
      • Swiss Army Knife: Used more for utility than combat, this thing has a box cutter, cork opener, flathead screwdriver, and lockpick all in one.
  • Appearance: Bruce stands at an unimpressive 5'6, with tan yet still undeniably Caucasian skin and a mess of dark brown hair, he usually wears a T-shirt with a pop culture joke or reference on it, torn jeans at the left knee, and a blue duster that's a smidge too big for him.
  • Personality: Bruce is the kind of guy to run things by the numbers. He is relatively sociable, but he is a man of thought over action. While he wants to avoid combat, when he is in it, he uses his skills to quickly and pragmatically end the conflict. Even in his off time, he is more business than casual, which is odd, given his abilities, manner of fighting, and overall dress, but underneath it all is the slacker nerd who wanted to do something more with his life, so he dropped his life and became a PI.
  • Background:
    • Bruce Long is a 3rd-generation German-American private investigator formerly operating out of San Francisco, California. He was a star student, graduating from MIT before returning to the place he was born to join a big tech company, only to hate his monotonous job. He had few friends left, as most had moved on to bigger and better things, he had begun slacking more and more, and his life had hit a low point. That was when he looked at some of his favorite works: L.A. Noire, Detective Conan, Batman, and so on, and decided to drop everything and become a private eye. Things were tough for the first year or two, but as his name became known, he got a steady influx of work as San Fran hit a bit of a decline with it's police force and justice system. While he did the work, he also trained in deduction and martial arts, honing his craft to ridiculous levels.
    • There are two facets to how Bruce got here: Bruce himself, and the Hangshua family. The Hangshua family is a rich Hong Kong family who earned their money after the eldest brother moved to San Fransico and started a casino, which evolved to a chain, which hit a few other cities, such as Vegas, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong. The eldest brother's youngest son, Kim Hangshua, was murdered by a demon while visiting his family in Hong Kong, and they didn't want to go to the police, as the family had less than legal dealings with some shady groups. What do, then? Hire a PI from the San Fransico area, someone who was both cheap and experienced.
    • Bruce had just received a drop in business after the police force got a much-needed upgrade in tech, training, and staff, so he just wanted a job above all else. When the Hangshuas came calling, offering 25K now and 30K after the case was completed, he accepted in a heartbeat, flying himself off to Hong Kong and meeting up with the Hangshuas. However, when he landed, something came over him, an energy he had never felt before. He made his way to an small, mom-and-pop inn before fainting, and the owners took him in and gave him a room. The next morning, he woke up, still feeling weird, and spoke with the owners about his situation. They took a one-time fee for indefinite use of the room and left him to it. Once he got up, the feeling changed to a more powerful sensation, before somewhat subsiding. He realized something was wrong when during a fight he got into with a particularly rude man who insisted on combat, he accidentally punched him into the alley, and splatted him against the back wall on accident. When he started directing someone's lighter flame to light their cigar, he knew he was... something else. However, he hasn't yet had time to test all of this out, since he is caught up with his investigation.

LA Noire? If that was applied in-universe, it doesn't exist in the 70s. Detective Conan started in 1994.

  • Name: Boney (TRUE NAME UNKNOWN)
    • Faction: Neutral Supernatural Creature

  • Abilities:
    • Powers:
      • Excavation: Boney is able to dig extraordinarily fast with his bone shovel. However, the tunnel will only be able to accommodate people of his current size. Digging bigger tunnels tends to slow him down.
      • Bone Manipulation/Animation: Boney is able to make bones dig themselves out of the ground and assemble themselves into tools and other useful things. He can also animate relatively complete skeletons into (admittedly boneheaded) minions.
      • Bone-Sense: He can sense the locations, sizes, and types of bones in the ground. The depth varies with his current level of power. This is useful for finding materials for skeleton minions.
    • Weaknesses:
      • Magic: Boney can be hurt, sealed away, or repelled by the requisite forms of magic. The amount of magic needed to do this varies with his current level of power.
      • Naive: He is very naive and if someone promises to help find the rest of his bones, he will follow them blindly unless something happens to prove that they shouldn't be trusted.
    • Skills:
      • Dowsing: Boney uses a pair of dowsing rods in an attempt to locate his bones. This can also be reapplied to find most other things.
    • Equipment:
      • Bone Shovel: This is a sturdy stick with the scapula of some large animal tied to the end. Boney uses this to dig tunnels.
      • Dowsing Rods: These are two carved rib bones in an L-shape. By holding them as dowsing rods, Boney is able to determine the location of things he wants to find.

  • Appearance:
    • Base Form: Boney appears as a short, skinny boy with long, disheveled black hair and completely black eyes wearing white burial robes with a white bandanna over his hair, going barefoot. There is a spine and ribcage seemingly embedded into him over what passes for his clothes. Additionally, two small arched protrusions of bone mark his pelvis.
    • True Form: Unknown

  • Personality:
    • Base Form: Boney is childish, and to put it frankly, has no spine. They'd rather hide than fight, unless they're trying to get to one of their bones. Then he'll fight to the death (but he's already dead). He's slavishly obedient to whomever has promised him that they'll help get his bones back. Boney constantly complains of hunger, but often gives up what little offerings he gets to other undead beings who look like they need it more.
    • True Form: Unknown

  • Background:
    • Boney doesn't remember much about his past. All he remembers is being hungry and needing to find his bones. Upon hearing from a kindly mystic that his bones were in Hong Kong, he headed there straightaway.
    • He started out with only his spine and found his ribcage. He hears that his bones have been taken by a gang to be used in some kind of ritual and is horrified to learn that they'll be burnt in the process.
    • He's going to find the rest of himself no matter what! However, whatever help can be offered would be very welcome. If someone helps him find his bones, he'll serve them forever...
    • Currently, he is missing both arms, both legs, and his skull.

Credit goes to emilyorthoclase for making these characters for me to use.

  • Abilities:
    • Powers: N/A
    • Weaknesses:
      • Both of them are baseline humans
    • Skills:
      • Both of them are athletic, trained detectives, skilled with a gun, and talented drivers (Yeoh moreso than Liu).
    • Equipment:
      • Both carry revolvers and tasers.

  • Appearance:
    • Liu is of average height, a bit thin for his size (as a child, he was rather sickly; while his health as an adult has improved, he's still pretty scrawny), with neatly trimmed black hair and a perpetual five o'clock shadow (he's trying to grow a beard and is very bad at it).

    • Yeoh is tall and athletic, with black hair cut short and a perpetual Slasher Smile.

  • Personality:
    • Liu is seemingly nicer than Yeoh. Polite, cheerful, and friendly, he's something of an outcast among the police department for his enthusiasm regarding the supernatural in general and the Feng Shui sites in specific. But one shouldn't forget that nice is different than good: when it comes to the Feng Shui sites, Liu will stop at nothing to exploit the hell out of them and destroy anyone that gets in his way.
    • Yeoh is a big believer in survival of the fittest. She's essentially a Schoolyard Bully All Grown Up, with all the power that comes with being a cop. It's probably a good thing that she's not particularly ambitious or driven: her interests are mainly focused around keeping herself in a comfortable position of power. However, her friendship with Liu is completely genuine.

  • Background:
    • Officer Liu believes, completely and wholeheartedly. He became a cop entirely to investigate rumors of Feng Shui sites, and he'll go to any lengths to uncover them.
    • Officer Yeoh grew up an orphan. From a young age, she decided the best way to survive was to join the existing power structures, and decided at that moment to become a cop. She was partnered with Liu, the department crackpot, and despite initially dismissing him, quickly realized that he was right. Since then, the two have made a name for themselves as the ones who cover all strange goings-on in Hong Kong.
