So making this thread mostly because this thing doesn't have trope page nor discussion thread so I have no clue if its any good or not. Only thing I'm aware is that its animated netflix show and that it seems pretty cliche considering when I checked out first episode, I instantly knew which one was evil twin before they even did anything :P So did anybody else bother checking it out?

[up] I did, and.... it's not the best show ever, let's just put it like that. I hope that season 2 will be better, given the twist in the season finale.

I watched it, it's harmless but good in its own right. Super cheesy but if you can get by that, you'll enjoy yourself.

I've only seen the pilot and bits from the first season, and it seemed pretty bland and boring, for the most part, with some preachy writing at times. It seemed like the best parts were with Botila, and her turn at the end of the season was great, especially since it seemed like it was going to redeem her at first.

Season two looks a bit more fun, at least.

I do find it weird how show was popular enough to get second season that was released two years later(2016 being first season and 2018 the second season) considering how little I have heard about it ._.

Anyway, I can say that animation at least is pretty good and can agree that Botilla is best part of first season at least. All scenes with her are great(my current favourite being Richard's freaked out face in the episode where she loses her head and still continues to snark as usual). But yeah, so many cliches like the whole Five-Token Band thing(with the white blond one of course being the main character <_< Ya know, Five-Token Band wouldn't feel as cliche and 90s if the main protagonist wasn't always White Male Lead)

[up] I'm pretty sure the episode orders are done well in advance, so the popularity (or lack of) of the first season wouldn't have changed the fact that a second season was in the making. It's the same care with most Netflix shows, but particularly Kulipari.

I guess, but two years gap still seems weird(Kulipari at least is based on book series done by some sort of soccer star and was as show surprisingly good)

Anyhoo, I still keep surprising how many 90s cartoon tropes this show manages to hit ._.

Like, Richard in first episode as kid is rather sympathetic even though he isn't intended to be due to his whiny-ness and unreasonableness [lol] Lot of 90s shows makes their antagonists accidentally sympathetic at least to some degree. Like, of course a kid would be annoyed by seeming favoritism(though his dad did try to be nice both of them) including nobody else caring much about all of his stuff getting drowned and being forced to live in woods despite not liking nature that much. And he did wait until his dad was gone before starting his evil plans :p

That said, there is also lot of "Ya know, this isn't really smart writing because it makes characters look kind of dumb" moments. Like that dad guy didn't lock the doors to the lab at all.

Anyhoo, yeah, I guess its not bad show, but I'll see what the second season is like and does it improve on first season. Only thing I can say is that Botilla is definitely the highlight of the show and even then she has really unoriginal name [lol]

Because it's a subscription service, "buzz" is basically the currency for whether or not a Netflix show will get continued or not. It's likely that the show was initially licensed for more seasons, but due to the insane amount of buzz that shows like Voltron and Bojak Horseman got compare to Kong, those shows were pushed to the front of the queue while Kong was just put on hold.

Makes sense. Either way, second season ends with "and adventure continues!" but with both villains taken into custody, so I can assume they are assuming there won't be third season [lol]

Either way, second season as as mediocre as first one, but worse because Botilla is out of character and has all of Richard's mannerisms tongue So either writer for her got changed or whoever did writing for the show either knows or only bothered to do specific type of villain. Kind of sad since I think you could have had second season's plot exactly the same but with her season 1 personality and mannerism and it would have been better

I've seen most of the pilot, and I think they were probably GOING for a cheesy cliche storm.

As someone who appreciates that kinda thing, I enjoy it.

My biggest complaint about season 2 is that it ignores a very big plot point from the 1st. After Botilla's initial rebellion, she and Richard create programs that place them in the digital equivalent of a Mexican stand-off: If Botilla kills Richard, she goes permanently offline. And if Richard destroys Botilla, all the details of his dirty deeds are emailed to law enforcement agencies and news outlets the worldwide, AND all his accounts are zapped, leaving him broke and exposed. But at the season 1 finally, Botilla pushes Richard off a cliff with no ill consequence, and no further mention is made in season 2. Did I miss something?

I know this is a dead thread, but the worst part of the second season was the fact that Amy (a supporting character) got blatantly afflicted with Chuck Cunningham syndrome in the fourth episode of season 2.
