Sign-up are always open. And hey, good to see you around! If you want to join, you'd be more then welcome.grin

Just to let you know what you're in for though. Basically, the game has become something of a SA throwback. Jimmy Olson-esque transformations, other dimensions, the works. Though it still uses modern story-telling sensibilities. If that doesn't bother you, it's still hella fun.

Alrighty I gave it a bit of thinking and settled on what I want to do.

  • Real Name: Edgar De Meijer
  • Superhero Name: Remix
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: A pale-skinned average-height Dutch guy, with extremely short black hair and gray eyes. His superhero outfit is basically this.
  • Personality: A raver who adheres to Peace, Love, Unity, Respect when it comes to performing. When it comes to fighting crime or being part of everyday life... he comes off as cocky and (slightly) rude. Pretty much never takes off his helmet, and insists on going by his hero name rather than his "legal" name.
  • Powers:
    • Temporal Remix: Time is boring, why not remix it? Remix remixes himself by altering his own body's position in time. He accelerates himself (or parts of himself) into either forward or reverse up to 10x speed. If he's remixing his whole body at once, it's good for short, but frequent, bursts, while remixing only parts of his body can last extended periods of time. (Despite the name and phrasing this is completely unrelated to time travel, he only moves himself and does nothing to the timestream itself.)
      • Forward: He can speed up to do something like a flash step. Going forward at less than 1x speed lets him do things like land long leaps or reduce the sheer force of being slammed into a wall by making it happen over a longer period of time before he returns to normal speed. When he's not in a fight, he can fast-forward his wounds to get back on his feet faster than he otherwise could. If he makes his lungs slow down after breathing in toxic gas, he can buy himself some extra time before it starts getting absorbed into his bloodstream.
      • Reverse: If he goes in reverse, his body starts to go back the way it came - if he reverses after walking down a street, an observer would see that it looks like he's walking in reverse. If he goes in reverse after jumping off a bridge, he would start flying back up in reverse, looking just like if someone was playing a video of him backwards. The state of his body isn't altered by going in reverse, so if he got stabbed in the gut, going in reverse would let him rewind back to where he was before getting stabbed, but he'd still be stabbed.
      • Replay: He could remix a punch by throwing it, then replaying it in reverse and forward multiple times so it's like he threw a flurry of ten punches at once. A spin-kick could turn into him hovering in place for a few moments as he rotates back and forth re-kicking someone.
  • Gear:
    • Helmet: A really tough, highway-legal helmet that is reinforced to protect his head from just getting straight-up exploded by a stray bullet or something. It has enough electronics in it to provides a HUD and the functionalities of a smartphone, and a voice modulator that can adjust the tone of his voice.
    • Skate Boots: His boots have rollerblade wheels that can pop out of them, or ice skate blades.
    • Speakers: A set of multiple speakers that are scattered throughout his armor and synced up to his powers. They can drop some loud and energetic EDM beats when he's fighting, and remix the sound in-sync with his own speed. Or they can be used as a megaphone for his voice, I guess.
    • Lighting: His entire outfit is covered in LED lights to let him serve as a one-man lightshow, and can provide illumination in a wide area in the dark if need be.
  • Backstory: Edgar was originally just a Dutch high schooler who was into listening to - and creating - electronic music. One fateful night at an underground rave, he was forever altered by a loose wire in a turntable that sent a monstrous jolt of electricity through his body, granting him super powers. Instantly, he knew that he had to become a superhero - because what better way to become extremely popular? From then on out, he would only be Remix. So he put in for a transfer to a more prestigious school, and moved from the Netherlands to the sunny shores of California and Saint Academy.
  • Miscellaneous: Speaks English with an accent that sounds like it's half-Dutch, half-robotic.

[up]Accepted. Glad to have you on board.smile

Anyway, now's a good a time as any to jump in. We're just starting a Tournament Arc, (think MHA's Sports Festival,) and we just finished the preliminaries. (Which was a race. Again, think MHA.) There's some other stuff going on, but it's mostly character specific.

On top of that, we've already had a few characters contract Jimmy Olson Syndrome. One character became a girl, another became a werewolf, another still became a succubus, and another is set to get a Plot-Relevant Age-Up. I'll also try to give you a recap at some point, because there are some other things going in you might want to know. Though you can always check the Tropes Page in the meantime.

And I'd strongly recommend joining the Discord. A lot of pre-planning and OOC stuff goes on there. But it's up to you.

Thanks, I have two Characters in mind, I am going to give a resume of both, tell me who you prefer:

Marduk: Marduk is a hero of ancient times, he belongs to the Old Mesopotamia, he was a hero given several tasks to do by the Sumerian Gods in exchange to becoming a god himself, the tasks were actually "lessons" the gods wanted to give Marduk for being arrogant and ambitious, the Gods did not expect him to be wise enough to pass the first task and gaining the first gift, after that the Gods decided to change the tasks at their convenience, the second task send him to the underworld to suffer, his perception of time started to distort and when the Gods finally decided to let him free it was already to late, he woke up in the present day. (What do you think?, the other character is more Science based)

[up]What's the second idea? And keep in mind, this RP's called My Superhero Academy. If he isn't a student, he ain't getting in.

The second character is more based on what kind of powers I like. His name is Zero (Really) and his backstory is more depresive. Besides he wouldn't fit in the superhero school, he is not a Hurt/Comfort/Angst nor an evil character, he is just a really smart pragmatic character with power hungry tendencies.

Marduk wants to enter the school to be recognized in the modern world, after all he doesn't have title or something to be identified in this year and no one contracts a warrior from an ancient civilization. I will post the full character profile in a minute (or more)

[up]Just a FYI, but we do have rules. And Rule 11 is Be a Hero. Just keep that in mind.

GodofSoul Since: May, 2017
#112: May 7th 2018 at 7:02:58 PM

• Real Name: Marduk

• Superhero Name: None

• Age: 16

• Appearance: Pale-skinned(The Underworld doesn’t have a sun) with black hair, he looks like your average joe most of the time when he is not in combat, but at the beginning of every fight his muscles start to show and his face seems to get older beyond his apparent age.

• Personality: Friendly and amicable. He believes that the only thing that matters is being as good as your circumstance allow you to be. He is blunt, honest and he never judges the actions of others but their motives, that doesn't mean he is not cautious. His maturity comes from the past, it was horrible and something a lot of humans wanted was a reason for their suffering. The religion said that the Gods created them to be slaves, he didn't think the same way. He thinks his place in the universe is marked by his own hand after having accumulated enough experience. He doesn't care if there is no real meaning or if there is an actual meaning of life, he is happy doing what he chooses for himself being part of humanity.

• Powers: Outside Context Body: His body has Supernatural Power from more magical times.

Super Strenght: He can crush trees and bend steel with his bare hands like nothing.

Great Willpower: His willpower also exceeds, he passed thousands of years voluntarily in the underworld with the worst treatment that place can give you.

Experienced Fighter: In a fight he is guided by experience, decent to put a fight against martial arts trained individuals but that experience truly shines against stronger foes and darkens against weaker ones, when he is fighting something that surpasses him in strength or numbers he shows skill, tactics, and strategies to kill that kind of enemies.

• Gear: Nothing special except Two Sickle swords and set of armor made of an unknown material similar in appearance to copper, durable enough to survive his strength.

• Backstory: Marduk was born an orphan in ancient Sumerian like a commoner in the city-state of Uruk. Having started as a soldier to fight for his people, he gained recognition as a warrior of great caliber, gaining respect in the increasing wars happening at the time.

One day after a long fight against the monstrous demon Azag, ending the fight with the death of Azag, he was proclaimed Champion by The King of Uruk, Gilgamesh.

In the middle of a battle he met a Goddess, The Goddess Aruru, she wanted him to do something for her.

Marduk was entrusted by The Goddess Aruru to retrieve one of her creations, it was a Clay Person, he accepted the quest, the day after the battle he marched to meet the creature, after a long journey and an even longer fight he retrieved the body of the Clay Person to Aruru, in exchange for his service she asked what he wanted, he said he wanted to be a god, instead of answering the Goddess left with the body.

Marduk continued his life until one day another God come to him, that God was Enki, the God asked if he still wanted to be a God, Marduk said “Yes”.

Enki explained that to get such a thing Maduk would have to accomplish a series of Tasks that no mortal could handle to gain Godhood, Marduk accepted the challenge without hesitation.

The Tasks were actually supposed to work as punishment for the arrogance that Marduk presented, it was truly amazing when Marduk accomplished the First Task, the Gods have no choice but to give him something, they give him a treasure of great value.

In the Second Task the Gods decided to make things harder, Marduk was supposed to expend a year in the Underworld with the worst treatment that place can give a mortal, they decided to just let him there until he surrendered.

Now thousands of years later, he is finally back home and he wants to take his Hero career where he left it.

• Miscellaneous: He loves the modern world, unlike a lot of people he sees the modern world as a better place in comparison to the old one, it just needs some help.

• Notes: I make this character thinking in the Nasuverse. Also, tell me if you see any mistake in my writing. Sorry if it is unreadable.

Zero is a science based character, he prefers to be a scientist than a hero.

I omitted a lot about Marduk's backstory.

[up]Okay, took another look. It's mostly okay, but you still need to make some adjustments. Basically, you need to limit his power set. In terms of his sheer power level, Marduk is like Superman. Which for NPC's is a no-no. I'd suggest removing everything except for the strength. And then tone down his strength too. Because being able to lop off heads with 'a lazy swipe' is a bit too much for this RP.

Also, if there's a bunch of backstory you haven't included, then you either need to include it or trim it down it enough that you don't have to include it. Your choice.

GodofSoul Since: May, 2017
#119: May 9th 2018 at 9:04:11 AM

What the backstory lacks are the interactions and character development that Marduk has in every battle, he had a moral conflict against the Clay Person, ( a Clay Person is a shapeshifter that can also change their physical stats at will, just like Enkidu in Fate) the Clay Person took the form of a little girl and had the mind of a little girl born without an idea of where she was, the "battle" was actually a conversation between the two. Marduk wants to become a God to avoid such a situation again, because of his weaknesses that newborn didn't have a choice in life.

I don't have a problem removing the majority of his powers, but what about "Experienced Fighter" or "Great Willpower", can he keep those abilities?

Real Name: Jack O’Leary

Superhero Name: Terror

Age: 16

Appearance: Jack has white hair that refuses to accept a dye job and a sharp, angled face. He has deep green eyes, which go almost completely white when he is transforming. He is of lithe frame, and pale skinned.

For a super suit, Jack has adopted a bulletproof Jack o’ Lantern helmet and dark purple armor. The armor has spikes on the shoulders and Jack has a cape with the word “Terror” on it. If you look closely, you can see that there are cloudy patterns in the fabric.

Personality: Jack is a highly misunderstood personality. All he wants is to help people really. But due to his ability; most people fear him. Jack has used this to his advantage for the most part, though Jack is slowly losing an inner battle to maintain his sanity.

Jack will do what he can to help people, but his grip is slipping from reality every day.

Jack also has a tendency to slip into states where he can’t tell the difference between dreams and reality. This can result in more reckless behavior, or attempting to achieve something that is impossible.

Powers: Jacks main ability is something that most people would truly be hard pressed to say that they want. Jacks ability is Phoboform, or Nemesis Form. Jack will transform into his targets fear on command. He can sense the fear in people, and sometimes even the reason for that fear. If the fear is powerless, or weak - say, a chicken - Jack will boost it in power by making it even more terrifying. I.E. Making the chicken breathe fire and change its wings into bat wings. In addition, an abstract fear will manifest itself in one of two ways. The first, with Jack transforming into a copy of the person except with the fear currently happening to them. Or a symbol of that fear. I.E. Jack turning into the Grim Reaper for Thanatophobia.

Some fear forms are weaker than their “real” counterparts, and can vary from person to person.

Jack also has the ability to travel through and control dreams. Jack cannot harm people here, but can “whisper” to their dream-selves in order to influence their actions.

In addition to this, while asleep; Jack can heal from nearly any wound within reason. Over the course of a month, so long as Jack gets regular sleep, he can heal even a lost limb. However; if Jack is killed before he may sleep, he will have to rely on outside forces to fix him.

Gear: Jack throws pieces of “candy” that burst when they hit a target releasing sulphuric acid. It isn’t known what material this “candy” is made of, but it is assumed to quite resistant. In addition, Jack also has a sword that is covered in chemicals that ignite when struck against Jack’s armor. The weapon burns for around 5 minutes before Jack needs to reapply.

Backstory: Jack was born to a mortal woman and The King of Nightmares, Ablinur. When he was born, it was decided that the first 13 years of his life would be spent with Albinur in the Dreamland. He would teach him the ways of fear. His mother did not appreciate this at all; but accepted the monsters demands.

For 13 years Jack was taught all about causing fear and hatred in people. But Jack couldn’t help but feel like he was doing something… wrong. Being half-Nightmare, Jack was able to ignore these feelings for the most part; but his human side was always trying to force him into doing the right thing. Finally, on his 13th birthday, Jack was sent back to earth to spread what his father had taught him. At first, he did as he was commanded; but eventually, a hero stepped in and stopped him. The hero broke through to the human side of Jack, though not without consequence. Jack lost all memory of how to control his abilities, and though Jack has no memory of what he transformed into; it terrified the hero into a temporary catatonic state.

Jack felt horrible about what he had done, and at age 15 had decided to only use his abilities for good. After going through morality training with the only person he knew on Earth - his mother, Jack had learned of the Saint Academy. He visited the hero in the hospital, who had since woken up; and asked him if he believed that Jack could in fact become a hero. And though the man was trembling, he nodded. “Son, you might be the most terrifying thing I have ever seen. But sometimes the villains need a little terror.” And that’s what Jack became.

A Terror.

1. Real Name:Jefferson Horton

2. Superhero Name: none atm

3. Age:16

4. Appearance:he has blue eyes, reddish brown hair, he is 5’10” and skinny

5. Personality: He is a very shy person, he is an introvert and doesn't like to draw attention to himself. He is a very kind person and will do anything for his friends. He is oblivious of social cues.

6. Powers: Intuitive aptitude: He can learn how anything mechanical works simply my touching it. In some causes he can watch someone make something and then he can replicate it. He can't do this through videos however, he has to see it in person. He can make things that are ahead of the current technology, however these may not work right at first until he fixes the problems with them.

7. Gear: Evo suit: This suit has an onboard AI named Evo, the whole purpose of this suit is to adapt to enemy attacks and give Jeff the means to counter them. It is not always successful, but it at least makes it so that Jeff can survive. If it is countering an element, it has to be hit by that element to learn how to counter it. This suit also gives Jeff enough durability to be bulletproof and enough strength to lift a car.

Nano tech gauntlets: Addon to the Evo suit. These have a few pre programmed weapon forms that they can turn into; drill, basic shortsword and tesla blaster. They can be programmed to change into different weapons but that takes a really long time, up to a month, and Jeff right now sees no reason to do so.

grav boots: Addon to the Evo suit. The purpose of these is to change Jeffs gravity so that he can walk on walls and ceilings, they cannot be used to float/fly. partially built hover cycle: A project Jeff is working on, it is completely useless right now, it is just something he tinkers with in his spare time.

8. Backstory: Jeff grew up in chicago. He lived with his grandmother, because his Dad died before he was born, and his mom died in childbirth. He went to an okay public school. Sure there were bullies, but he had a few friends, so he never really let them get him down

. His best friends name was chris and they hung out constantly. When Jeff was nine they discovered that both he and Chris had powers. Chris could adapt to anything, and Jeff was really smart. The doctors at the time just thought Jeff had a genius intellect ability. But of course it was a little more than that. Anyway, one day when Jeff and Chris were messing around in Jeff's backyard, Chris fell out of a tree and got scrapped up a bit.

When he did this again a bit later though, he found he wasn't hurt. This sparked an idea in Jeffs head. He wanted to build a suit to replicate Chris’ powers. Both Jeff and Chris worked on the suit for years until of course he went Saint Academy. He got accepted to Saint Academy partially because of the suit, at least that's what Jeff thinks.

  • Real Name: Ebony Blackburn
  • Superhero Name: Hyflyer
  • Age: 18
  • Appearance: 6'3. Rarely breaks her impassive expression. Graceful in movement; yet it is clearly artificial.
  • Personality: Ebony is outwardly severe and curt, tending to be incredibly stubborn and a bit of a neat freak, however this behaviour is brought about by an inwardly emotion-based mindset and an obsession with living up to her own self-inflicted standards. Due to her powers being linked to her emotional state, Ebony tries to keep everything bottled up in an attempt to keep everyone none the wiser to what she perceives to be a 'cowardly' turmoil, yet she cannot hide her great sense of empathy towards others – which usually leaks out as nagging and pestering towards her comrades in a manner reminiscent to that of an anxious mother or older sister. While introverted, she is by no means shy – regularly attending social gatherings and the like – but her emotional stagnation means she ends up overcompensating by mistake and coming across as a bit of an interpersonally awkward dork, attempting to sound cool and failing miserably in the process (see her chosen codename for a clear example of this). While her dislike towards her abilities is strong, she nonetheless reluctantly recognizes the utility of them for others, and while she honestly couldn't care less about using them for herself she will usually oblige in assisting others if their presence in whatever conundrum they're having is entirely necessary (and she will help even if it isn't necessary – albeit with a dirty look, a tut of disapproval and an irritated eye-roll). Despite her efforts to keep every reaction limited to a small quirk of the eyebrow or a microscopic shift in expression, she cannot suppress her stronger emotions, and as such once one crosses that thin line she will explode into a frightening, seething rage that is a terrifying sight to behold – powers or no powers. Overall, Ebony is just a tired girl stuck in a bit of an early-onset existential crisis, however her tenacity to improve and regain her lost spark of life is admirable in and of itself, and her striving to forge her own path in life where she won't have to rely on the novelty of her god-given abilities is nought to be sneezed at either.
  • Powers:
    • Telekinesis: The classic 'not touching can't get mad' schtick. Ebony has a tremendous potential for psychic power, and it is clear that her current aversion to using it hasn't always been the case judging by how well-developed they are. Excluding the obvious move-objects-without-touching-them ordeal, note   Ebony has also developed some of the minutia included within the broad umbrella term that is TK, examples of which being physical enhancement, psionic barrier creation, the ability of flight, and many other such adaptations of her primary power. There are also no weight limits or physical stoppers to what and how much she can lift – it is purely based on her mind and mental state, meaning that the only ways to halt or otherwise negate her powers is through either telepathic or physical disorientation to her brain. It is to be noted that she has stopped mid-to-late game on the metaphorical RPG levelling system of power development, and although she feels as if learning further techniques for a power she couldn't care less about is a slog, a part of her still thinks that somewhere in this lost cause is the chance to regain her enjoyment of her powers – and as such she still continues training them despite her desire not to in a habitual way; implying a case of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Her current 'in-progress' abilities include psionic energy balls, invisibility, and short-range teleportation, however her irrational guilt towards continuing to beat the dead horse of her powers means she usually only works on these in her private time.
  • Backstory: Ebony was what one would call the 'perfect girl' growing up – polite, pretty, and also extraordinarily powerful since birth. The infant esper showed her tremendous potential repeatedly during her early years, with examples including psychically spinning her crib mobile and animating her toys and teddy bears. Unfortunately, the gushing and the proclamations of how 'special' she was eventually became tiresome and then grating, as Ebony was truthfully putting no effort into her supposed 'great acts' and viewed them purely as the norm. Yet instead of lording herself over others, Ebony developed a deep yearning for effort, and so threw herself into even the most mundane and soul-rending of activities in order to fulfill this urge. Her parents were utterly confused by her actions, having placed their daughter on such a high pedestal in their minds, but Ebony remained vigil, unwavering in her decision to explore other aspects of life and not being reliant on her god-given talents to achieve a sense of self-worth – feeling as if any satisfaction would be both unwarranted and temporary. Her teenage years were troublesome for her as well – she grew to be naturally beautiful, and once again she found herself thrust in a situation where she felt as if she was being admired purely for her external apparency and not her true, flawed, human persona hidden just behind the aesthetically pleasing veil. Frustrated with all her emotional turmoil, she figuratively shoved her feelings deep into the crevices of her heart and locked them away – not yet realising how much a mistake she had made until she had gone and thrown away the key. Her attempt at coping having turned out to be a double-edged sword – her new, aloof attitude succeeded in causing her old admirers to eventually lose interest even despite her looks – only ended up creating the opposite problem and caused her to feel a sudden, crippling onset of self-inflicted depression and loneliness. Realising the severity of her mistake, and dismayed by the effect of emotional stagnation brought about by her poor handling of the situation, she elected to join Saint Academy in the hopes of forming true friendships – not born out of any assumption of her being a chosen one or beautiful role model, but bonds forged through the power of character – rather than through assumptions based on her abilities and outward appearance.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Ebony's one pride lies in her hobby as a violinist – as it was a skill birthed (and still being worked on) by her own determination and want to learn, not as a natural ability. While this is where a small sense of shyness crops up as she rarely displays this skill in public, Ebony is nonetheless proud of herself for achieving this, and her emotions and inner spark for life flow free whenever she gets the opportunity to play. Ebony also is learning how to play flute and ocarina, the latter of which is proving to be a little more difficult than she thought it to be at first (much to her happiness).

Real Name: Lucien Bright

Superhero Name: Brainwave

Age: 18

Appearance: Mr happy-go-lucky. His eyes are reddish-brown, and he's about 6'.

Personality: Lucien is...well, bright, much like his last name. Bubbly and outgoing, he's a good-hearted guy who tries his best to get along with others with his laid-back attitude and friendly demeanour. Not unexpected from somebody with super empathy. Still, Lucien is plagued with the thoughts of using the intimate knowledge he can gain of people for selfish purposes, and he's not above being a manipulator who analyzes relationships between people. Still, he at least tries to not fall prey to this, even if it is a token effort. Lucien wears his heart on his sleeve, showing his emotions for all to see and feel. Though he has no problems with confidence, the doubts about how weak his powers are compared to other telekinetics and being torn between selfish and selfless uses of his empathic powers do undermine that beneath the surface. He's well aware that empathic powers are not really widely used by heroes, being more the domain of villains for inciting chaos within society. Regardless, deep down, there's a good heart trying to do his best to be a hero in spite of that.

Powers:

  • Telekinesis: Simply enough, Lucien can move and throw things with his mind. Compared to other telekinetics, his power is quite a bit more plain and weak, since moving things is the extent of his capabilities. He can fly by lifting himself up, but it's nigh-impossible to lift other things while flying. His normal maximum load is up to 3 average humanoids.

  • Empathy: Lucien can feel the mental state and emotions of others, and form empathic links with them to make the range at which he can do so essentially infinite.

  • Reverse-empathy: Likewise, Lucien can make others aware of emotions and mental states, either of himself or of someone he has an empathic link with. Lucien can also nudge these same things towards a certain emotion/state, like pushing someone towards feeling happy or being sleepy.

  • Bright Drive: While Lucien comes from a long line of psychics and telekinetics, this strange pool of willpower is something that has originated with him. When in extremely dire situations, it kicks in by maximising his TK power to his full potential, his eyes taking on a white glow and gold hue, and giving him access to Brightfire.

  • Brightfire: By creating immense friction in the air with his full TK potential realized with Bright Drive, Lucien can create white-hot flames that he can lob around.

Backstory: Lucien was born into the Bright family, a line of psychics and telekinetics of various levels of heroic and villainous fame and infamy. Compared to his older brother and sister, he's clearly the weakest of the bunch power-wise, competing for the weakest in the Bright family history. However, he had massive telekinetic potential which he never seemed to be able to progress very far with under family tutelage. His empathy was often derided for being mostly useless compared to the full on psychics, but nobody could ever say it to his face or in mocking after spending time with him.

  • In school, he was always the mediator, the comforter, the one who went out of his way to make others happy...or sad, depending on what they had done. For both selfish and selfless reasons, his powers were used through the years with almost reckless abandon. At 17, a teacher found his aptitude for helping others with emotional problems and recommended to a local newspaper that he write an advice column to cultivate using his powers for the benefits of others and not for his own. One year later, and bolstered by the small amount of help he had done to the world, but not yet satisfied, he enrolled in Saint Academy, with the blessing of his family in the hopes of reaching his full potential.

Miscellaneous: Lucien plays the synthesizer and the saxophone, and writes a weekly advice column for a newspaper in Saint City.
