I'm not seeing the confusion.
- Title Drop is a dialogue trope where the title is mentioned in the story.
- The Namesake is a title trope that's about the reason for naming a story.

Then does Title Drop have to be a line? Can't it be an object or something?
Would that make Character Title a subtrope of Title Drop too? (Or subtrope of The Namesake instead?)

If a series is named after a central character, setting, group, etc., it does not count as a Title Drop, unless they are usually called by another name.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
If this explanation comes by showing instead of by telling (i.e. it is not actually spoken aloud by any of the characters), then it's The Namesake.

Perhaps that's why I'm bothered - they sound too arbitrary.

Perhaps this will help distinguish:
- The name of the work is used in conversation.
- The subject of the work is part of the plot.
- The name of the work is also the name of a character.
- The name of the work is also the name of a location.
- The name of the work is also the name of a character's job.

Like...The Name Of The Work Is Related To The Work?
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.
