So, figured I'd make a thread for this since I didn't see one :D Who else here is a Taiko fan?

...And what do you think of the newest PS 4 game and how it has an English-language option? (Apparently all "editions" of the game will change language according to your console's language - well, for Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. Other languages are assumed to also turn into English) Probably gonna buy it in not too long...

The trophy list looks terrible to try through O_O CONSECUTIVE combos on 8* Oni difficulty songs? Yeah, probably not gonna get the plat in this one.

I used to play Taiko games a few years ago during my highschool years, back when I still frequented arcades. 'twas good fun, and I can still emulate the experience to an extent with Osu's taiko mode.

Don't stop, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need-proceed, just proceed, 'cause this is what you need!

I WISH I had an arcade with Taiko near me... sadly, arcades are almost nonexistent here (there's one arcade-bar which only has retro games, and a few places with a DDR cabinet or something...) I did get to play the arcade version (and other games - arcade Rhythm Tengoku, pop 'n music, the tableflip game) during my visit to the arcade Playland Japan in San Francisco's Japantown when going to GDC :D I miss that arcade...

I got several of the console games though - 2 of the DS ones, Taiko V for Vita, one of the Idolmaster crossover games (which are both pretty much the same game with different songs, apparently they save a share file/trophy list so if you have both you unlock everything from both) and the fourth Wii game :3

So I've owned the PS 4 game for some weeks now and... it's pretty great! I approve. Overall a good song list (especially some great ones in Namco Original), the same fun gameplay as always...

I also like the bingo cards - basically, for each song you have this card with 9 squares each representing a different "challenge" (for example "X combo" or "5 or less bad hits" or "play with a specific modifier"), and when you get 3 in a row you get a bingo and win a coin. (And if you fill out all squares, you unlock a new card with even harder challenges) You also get one coin for each cleared "Guest Session" round (against another character) so if you're struggling with getting more coins just through cards you can just keep grinding those songs I guess? Overall when it comes to challenges I like to have something specific to work towards rather than just self-imposed challenges for just bragging rights
The coins are used to buy boxes that give you various customization items - costumes, greetings for Ranked Mode, ect., and it's random what you get (so almost like a less scummy form of lootboxes only buyable with in-game coins? ...huh) Kinda wish you could unlock them in other ways too though, since this is the only way to get costumes...

Ranked Mode... lets you play against other players' ghost data (probably for the best it's ghost data and not real-time playing against someone, because server lag in rhythm games would not work), trying to get more points, and if you win enough you go up a rank, and the songs you play gradually get harder. It was surprisingly more fun than I thought at first x3

The trophy list is pain though - 10000 consecutive hits through full-comboing 8*+songs in Extreme (Oni) mode? Get 800+ and 999+ combo on one song? ...how?

Main thing I'm missing is some kind of "story mode", really liked those in the DS games, Vita and Wii and would especially be nice to see a translated story mode (plus they're just fun to play) Did Ranked Mode "replace" this here, I wonder... because between them I prefer story mode, though it's also cool to see them try something new
