Self-promotion is frowned upon, regardless of the content. See Auto-Erotic Troping. We're here to discuss media, not provide a platform to market one's work to other people.
You can mention that you have a fic, of course. You can solicit feedback in the Writer's Block subforum, and you can join in discussions about your fic or about the work(s) your fic is drawn from. You can create a work article for your fic on the wiki so long as you follow the rules about what creators are allowed to do. But don't post just to get reads.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"As for making a page on your fic, see The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours. Short version: Treat it as you would any other page and don't get possessive, but stay away from subjective tropes like the moment subpages to be on the safe side.
Thank you, both of you. I appreciate the response and the stance on fanfiction. It's good to have that cleared up.
Some talk about women, some talk about drinking. Me, I miss the food. What is wrong with that? The other important bit is that you ought to add trope examples from it to trope pages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI know a few guys who write fics based on reader feedback. Can you promote a fic written by someone else based on ideas you gave them? What about anthologies, if all stories are part of the same fic but you only wrote a few what then?
We don't want to give the impression that our site is for promoting anything. It should be for fans to share information about works they like. If you happen to be an author, that's great. You're welcome to participate, including creating articles for your work or derivatives of your work and discussing your work in forum topics. What we ask is that you avoid giving the impression that you are attempting to promote your work (or the work of others) rather than simply engage with your audience.

My apologies if this has been brought up before, but I was planning to necro the "All-Purpose Vault-Tec Vault (Fallout Fics)" thread and I wanted to know about the policy in regards to fanfiction.
Is it okay to self-promote your own fanfic? I've looked through the rules and found about the banning of any promotion of content or third-party items, but does this apply to fanfiction?
I'm rather new to using this forum, but I hope someone can clear things up for me. I love going through the tropes of this site and I don't want to be immediately banned or given a warning on my first post in the forums.
