Mr Fox made back its budget, but that's about it. A bomb in financial terms but fairly successful. Either way, hopefully people will think this looks interesting enough.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.According to boxofficepro.com, a website that tracks and predicts movies' performances, it's tracking higher on social media than Fantastic Mr. Fox was prior to its release (about 15,000 Facebook likes for Fantastic Mr. Fox vs over 80,000 for Isle of Dogs). So evidently there is a fairly significant interest in this movie.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (live-action/animation mix)
Cool World (live-action/animation mix)
Beavis And Butthead Do America
Eight Crazy Nights
The Simpsons Movie
9
Only half of those films were successful...and they were adaptations of existing properties, rather than original stories (though 9 was based on an Academy Award-nominated short...and it still was a flop). :/
Wait, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is rated PG.
But we can add Beowulf and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within to that list.
Well, PG used to mean something back in the day.
Shoot, my mistake. Will cross that one out.
has a clue, but it's usually not the correct one 0.55% of the timeLooks weird. Me likey.
I enjoyed Mr. Fox but that movie had pacing issues. Hopefully this one will be better in that department.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?I marvel at people bringing up "pacing issues" for movies that are just fine.
My angry rant blog!I love you man, but that's their opinion.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Fantastic Mr. Fox kind has two finales. I really like the movie, but there really are pacing problems present.
But Isle of Dogs has the advantage of not being cobbled together from a short book and a bunch of random draft notes and snippets.
Not Three Laws compliant.Funnily enough, that's almost literal. It adapts the original book's finale (Mr. Fox steals food from the farmers while they're distracted looking down the hole)...but this time the farmers are quite a bit more persistent in their pursuit, resulting in them adding on a whole new act.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"Saw the trailer before Black Panther.
I dunno, it just looks super orientalist to me. I get that Anderson is going for the same device he used in Fantastic Mr. Fox where the animals have American voices, but it's a very different perception when contrasted against British accents over non-translated Japanese. Plus, an atomic bomb-like explosion played as a joke by American-coded animals?
I support jokes about nuclear bombs.
My angry rant blog!I hadn't thought about it like that, Tuckerscreator. But that's a really good point. Sounds pretty problematic. I have to admit I haven't watched it yet though, so I guess I should suspend final judgement until then...
Well the dogs apparently can't understand Japanese anyway, so the different accents and stuff are probably for the best.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.So how come these dogs can’t understand Japanese but the wildlife in Fantastic Mr. Fox could understand English?
Because they're obviously not supposed to occupy the same universe?
I kinda doubt that the context of that comparatively small explosion will be a deliberate atomic bomb joke but we shall see.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Speaking of which, is this movie getting a Japanese release? Fantastic Mr. Fox didn't get released in China or Japan (which ultimately hurt its gross), but this movie seems to be getting a lot more hype than that movie did, so I wouldn't rule it out.
97%!
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."
It's worth seeing then.
Don't trust review sites too much.
My angry rant blog!Do we know what its budget is?
I'm surprised this movie is PG-13, because I would think it would be more general family aimed. However, I actually welcome more mature animation any day. Hopefully, it can get a nomination for best animated feature next year.
Although after Grand Budapest Hotel was a genuine hit and the increasing acceptance of Fantastic Mr Fox, Isle of Dogs might have a better chance.
Not Three Laws compliant.
