Steam Early Access Page

Ever wondered what would Planetside resemble if it was set in the western front of WWII, and used a top-down camera view instead of being an FPS? Well, that's what Foxhole is.

Admittedly I don't know much regarding the game mechanics (heck at first I thought it was a Company of Heroes styled RTS MMO), but the gist of it is that each player in the battlefield is an individual amongst hundreds of other soldiers, most of them other players. But more importantly, each of those players is actually a persistent entity in a constantly raging battlefield: even if you log off, your soldier will continue performing their duties or fighting (until they're killed, of course). Each player can choose a particular skill, ranging from being frontline infantry, building defensive positions, reviving downed infantry with medkits, driving armored vehicles or coordinating other players and calling in artillery strikes. Some NP Cs are inserted into the action, but they're typically used to control the more mundane duties, such as manning machinegun nests, AT guns, resource collectors, or merely keeping empty areas semi-active.

As always with Early Access titles though, we'll all want to be cautious, since ambitious projects like so have lost momentum and sputtered out in the past. But at least Foxhole has the distinction of already running for over a year, and having gone through a couple of patches and iterations... that might give the game some hope for making it big-time.

The reddit page gives a better picture of how active the online community is, or how the battles are actually carried out: https://www.reddit.com/r/foxholegame

Bastage! Beat me to it! tongue

Our page will be here

I'm really tempted by this game. A bit hesitant with Early Access; I won't claim I was "burned" by Starbound but Early Access' content draughts and constant revamps might not be my thing.

I really love the idea behind it and I think this'll either be the greatest thing or a spectacular disaster. Oh, I can see this crashing and burning because everyone wants to drive a tank but nobody wants to gather gasoline and drive it to the tank depot.

I might actually really enjoy playing medic in this game if I have to get medical supplies and wounded men to a field hospital or something.

One of the posts on the Reddit page mentioned this actually isn't WWII, but an alternate world where two factions named the Colonials and Wardens have been waging war for years. Attrition has forced both sides to simultaneously regress and advance in technology, meaning that while the infantry gear and overall tech levels resemble American and German WWII era equipment, their odd, slightly off-brand tanks are in fact outdated and scarce. This also applies to their overall industrial capacity, and as to why they need to build almost everything on the frontlines: it's because the territory being fought over has untapped raw resources needed to keep the war machine going.

The devs also hinted at getting creative with future updates, and adding the occasional crazy Wunder-Waffen style weapon or two.

.

This game looks so damn cool, but I don't know if it's voice chat and pre-made group that's really going to make it worthwhile. Also have no idea who this Youtuber is, hoping this isn't that bullshit fake voice banter that companies like Ubisoft are so fond of.

"I stand my ground for the very last time, gun is ready as I stand in line, nervous wait for the whistle to blow, rush of blood and over we go".

Queues should be a good thing, right? There's a lot of people who want to play?

It's a slightly old Early Access review from Rock Paper Shotgun, but it certainly captures the spirit of just how important logistics and engineers are in this game: Link Here

Also, for those interested in purchasing the game, Foxhole currently has a 25% discount on Steam, making the price $14.99 USD.

Reeeally torn between grabbing either this, or Ghost Recon: Wildlands, because that's also on sale too for 50% off!

Been playing on and off for a few years. They just had a major update that should bring the world up to its full size and added...the foxhole!

My god, they're adding freaking armored trains to the game now. And yes, the trains can carry those massive railway guns.
