So I’m not going to be reading the previous posts for fear of spoilers, and I just wanna ask, which chapter corresponds to the end of the movie? Thinking about catching up on the manga.

The movie ends at the end of volume 5, so you can start at volume 6. Just be warned that things only becomes more disturbing aftewards.

And this is the anime thread, so we don’t spoil here, don’t worry. ^^

Alrighty, thanks. But I’ll be staying off the thread, just to stay safe. Cheers!

The RPG is rated CERO Z in Japan, by the way.

Its the very first game based on an anime to be CERO Z. Not even the Berserk Musou game, the most violent version of Musou and the most violent Berserk game ever, was given a rating of Z.

Oh jebus. It's hard enough telling people the show is worth watching.

Not sure why you're saying that when it's not true, DGOC. If the Berserk game isn't rated CERO Z technically, it's because it seems like Z was added later as a offshoot of CERO 18.

Anyway, other games that have received Z ratings include the various GTAs released in Japan, so it's not like it's AO or anything. It's just an M rating.

It's been fun.

CERO Z is 18+ like ESRB AO.

CERO D is 17+ like ESRB M.

Also, remember that standards for what is "appropriate" will differ between regions. For example De: Yabatanien is rated CERO Z for violence in Japan, but is only ESRB M in North America. EDIT: And for the other direction, Dragon Quest XI is CERO A (all ages) in Japan but ESRB T (13+) in North America.

At the very least, it shows the devs aren't gonna fuck around in terms of Content, something that many games based on anime, whether Shonen or Seinen, tend to dampen a lot.

So we’ve had three trailers for Season 2 so far. Strangely enough, most of them have focused on a part of the arc that comes pretty late and not on the protagonists… Looks beautiful though.

[up] And with these trailers alone I can already tell Kevin Penkin's OST is gonna be a banger, again.

Just finished watching the movie, so I'm ready for S2 to begin. I'd already read the Ideofront chapters, so I was at least prepared for what that was all about, but man... I still think Nanachi should have burned the Zoaholic before they left.

It's been fun.

I had to look up what Zoaholic was. I think I might need a refresher haha.

Didn't expect them to share the spotlight between our gang and the suicide corps, but the music is unsurprisingly great. And Nanachi showing Bondrewd 'that' really is hilariously petty.

Interesting choice to link the past and present right off the batt like that. Knowing Vueko and the gang beforehand changes the viewing experience, but not necessarily for the worse.

And I’m glad the anime knows to keep the most important theme of the series − bodily functions. [lol]

S2E2: The Scorching City is a sight to behold.

Nothing quite says weird-ass place like weird-ass food. The eggmeat continuing to twitch even after being fried was hilarious. As was the bird snatching Riko’s mail balloon right after Nanachi made a whole speech about it.

So there’s a creepy stalker who plucked some hair from Riko and Nanachi and put them inside dead animals. Uhhh I dunno what to think of that right now. I’m also guessing the village of freaks is actually the expedition crew from the first episode.

Uuh, not sure I like the CG for Majikaja. He’s supposed to look weird, sure, but this is just jarring.

Love the general look of the 6th layer though, it’s very bright yet it makes you feel that it’s… somewhere deep.

I had completely forgotten the things with the hair and dead animals, wtf…

Yeah, hoping the lack of Kou Yoshinari on animation isn't going to hurt this season too much, but at the same time it does sorta work for Maja, and I have seen MUCH worse.

[up] Hehe, the animals are a good indicator the people around here are not exactly sane.

By the time the hair stuffed animals were explained I had forgotten they were placed there at that time. I did remember the marked drawing, though.

I don’t like the CG for Majikaja either but it’s not jarring since he looks sort of mechanical. How he became mechanical is probably a horror story, though.

[up][up][up][up][up] Yes. And the "village" itself is that local exile girl that joined them.

[up] Dude, why even add the spoiler at all?

Anyway, anyone else thinks this series could use its own Crowning Music of Awesome page? We have two O Ps and three endings that are all good and Kevin Penkin's soundtrack, which already is doing its thing this season.

S2E3: You know the village of freaks is weird because you can go up. This strange new place has me asking a lot of questions.

So Riko's White Whistle is going to get its final form after the isopod-looking thing is done carving it up. Okay. I wonder if that's what the other White Whistles did, too.

Talk about cursed transformations, Majikaja doesn't even have a flesh body anymore. He's only made up of "smells", hence the need for a mechanical body to be able to walk and talk. The Abyss always finds a way. We also learn that Hollows get their monstrous body based on their desires. Which leads me to ask why did that one guy love tubes so much?!

It's always cool to see a bustling marketplace in an RPG world. And it's cooler (well, less cool for Riko) that you barter with body parts.

Oh shit they squished Meinya so hard it popped an eyeball. Which just led to us learning about how bizarre its biology is. And that monetary "value" is a natural law enforced by shadow demons which will literally rip your body apart and... turn it into coins? Literal blood money? Ah yes, this is the WTF we watch Made in Abyss for. At least Riko and the crew are safe because they're so valuable. I think.

I knew that stomachache joke was coming. Seriously that green goop had flies buzzing all over it.

Faputa kind of reminded me of a Big Daddy with a Little Sister. I'm guessing this "princess" is what Vueko turned into, and well we have probably have a good idea of why she's so pissed.

Ignoring the mangaka's eccentricities when it comes to portraying children, he knows how to write them. Riko can be intelligent and observant in one moment then a massive dumdum the next, and I believe it completely.

Oh and for all that the Abyss has continuously proven itself an Eldritch Location, the village where value is not quite relative and even physical is still weird, and then you add the Hollows.

It’s fittingly disturbing that the gentle, pretty music continues uninterrupted when Maaa’s body is torn apart as compensation. Like "that’s just how things are here, get used to it".

S2E4: Faputa knows Reg from before when Reg met Riko. Interesting. With the reveal that Vueko is the one controlling the black slime, that means Faputa must be the little girl Vueko adopted back then. She apparently can’t enter the village because those villagers look more than ready to devour her. She’s somehow different from the rest of the freaks in the village, being closer to Nanachi and I wonder what the story behind that is. Also sheeesh that bellybutton stab and dick sniffing. Ughhhh.

The bug-eating, butt-licking toilet is gross but hilarious.

Riko please don’t follow strangers into alleyways. Seriously. At least she found a nice place to eat. And she’s met Wazukyan! Wazukyan in monster form looks cool.

Holy crap Mitty! How the hell. I feel like I’m gonna be asking that question a lot. Oh and Belaf looks cool as a monster too.
