That's decent, but the cropping on the first and last panels really hurts the entire context of the scene.
Maybe something from the The Fairly OddParents! movie Channel Chasers? I don't have access to photoshop at the moment, but two of three of the images together could work.
I like that.
Maybe (1+3+4) or (3+4)?
3 is decent but I think 4 is a little better...not sure if I like 1+3+4 or 3+4 more.
Don't share the criticisms of current. It brings the point across and is more concise than any of the suggestions.

Likewise. It looks like they're trapped in there in the current.
Check out my fanfiction!Current > 1+3+4 > OP. The current has the advantage of being one panel, and Bart and Lisa's faces looked "trapped" enough for me.
The current is fine. I can see Bart hitting the screen.

Maybe we should set up a crowner?
I think even if you share the OP's criticism of the current, it doesn't necessarily disqualify a single-image picture if it's reasonably clear that it's not the character's usual environment. Like, if the last panel of The Fairly OddParents! example were more detailed (and if Timmy didn't look so happy) it might work as an image on its own.
It'd still be more illustrative to use something that shows them entering the book or TV.
For those purposes, I'd say the last two panels of the Fairly Oddparents one should do.

For now, I prefer the current to any of the suggestions.
Bigotry will NEVER be welcome on TV Tropes.Keep the current.
Spiral out, keep going. There's enough consensus to keep the current, so I've added the suggestions to the Image Links page and adjusted the tag. Locking up.
Out of context, this could easily be mistaken for Homer watching home video of his kids. Ideally we should find some way to indicate that the transition from "outside the TV or book" to "inside the TV or book" wasn't by being recorded or photographed and displayed in it..
For instance, this from MLP:FIM's "Power Ponies:"
