Can you actually describe the character so that we can see if what you say is true? You've given zero information on the character.

Taken outside of context, that seems immature on the critic's side, unless it is that kind of story where everyone kill their enemies on the spot.
And even then, the most typical image of the "badass" is of a brutal, relentless and rather unpolite character who will literally skin his enemy alive if pushed far enough, I think.
A more restrained person filling the "badass" role does not look like a cliche for me. But please, add context.
"The dried flowers are so beautiful, and it applies to all things living and dead."Watch out for the line between "cliche" and "universal tropes"
Where there's life, there's hope.Captain America is still going strong after fifty years, so I'm PRETTY sure "badass nice guys with flaws and character development" aren't going out of style very soon.
Honestly, OP, that piece of criticism sounds like something I might've given when I was, like, twelve and thought whiny, emo, angsty asshole characters were the height of maturity.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."
I saw a character bashed simply because they're a nice guy who is a badass (regardless if they have flaws and/or decent character development) & the critic said that is cliche idea. The critic said to make it original, they must have "cool & fresh" trait like being aloof & kill every antagonist on the spot.
So, what do you think? I think the critic is entitled person who should be ingored on the spot.......
