I like Bennett when his videos are just comedically reviewing weird and obscure anime, but when he tries being serious he falls on his face and says some pretty stupid stuff that usually makes no sense or comes off as pretentious as fuck.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Ya know, Channel Awesome thread people often don't like this guy because they think he is too smarmy I like the guy, but dang he can be presumptuous at times. English being the language of comedy? Bullshit
I've seen that argument before, but it isn't a very good one. Yeah, English is extremely easy to play with, and it's certainly the most sarcastic language but there's nothing inherently bent towards comedy in English.
I think a better way to put it is that English and Japanese are conducive to different kinds of comedy and they don't always translate very well. Puns especially, but things like the manzai routines are so formalized in structure that they just seem weird when translated.
Not Three Laws compliant.Manzai can work in English, it's gotta be treated like an Abbot And Costello routine though and the timing has to be absolutely impeccable.
Ni No Kuni on PS 3 is probably the only English work I have seen get Manzai right, they changed the timings of animations and gave the whole thing a Cockney British spin on it to do it though.

^^I find it just very ignorant language because most people who make that language aren't even bilingual So many languages in world and all people have concept of humor, there is nothing that would make English the "best" language for comedy.

So youtube recommended this video and I'm like "Eh sure, might as well post it here. Its some other anime youtube's video with Bennet making cameo to talk about older weirder anime

TBH, when I saw Akidearest's video had Bennett, I honestly didn't click on it. I like Akidearest, but I don't like Bennett that much. The fact that he talks for the majority of the video as you say doesn't make me interested in watching it.

I find it amazing how Bennet gets hate on tv tropes in his own thread too I mean, wow, guy is really disliked over here.
I mean, I do get it(I was complaining about him earlier), but I find it funny
Its starting to feel like I'm in the minority for checking this thread as a result of liking his work.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI really cant like a guy who has those Rose Colored Glasses glued so tightly to his face that he just trashes current shows simply because they arn't the shows from 20 years ago.
And yet he doesn't seem to get that nothing has really changed in 20 years except for the fact that we now get absolutely every anime produced now, instead of 1 of the 60 shows produced per year in Japan 2 years ago and even then he cherry picks that too.
I like him, but yes, the butthurt is strong in this thread (i mean, see ).
its not butthurt when it's a legitimate criticism of his viewpoints.

Watch SymphogearWhatever you tell yourself man.
I've never actually see him say anything like "all anime nowadays is trash".
but HOW?He goes on and on and on about how good older animes were while consistently making fun of various newer animes.
The newest anime he has ever reviewed is what from 2004?

He actually explains all of that in the Akidearest video. He doesn't find modern Anime bad. In fact, he explains that in many case, it's actually better than its ever been, because rising production costs have made studios wary of producing crap, and averted Protection From Editor that used to be far more common in the 80s and 90s where everything was produced. That and Anime is made with a mind of being released to the ever growing north American market. His complaint is that this same change also killed a lot of the more experimental stuff the industry used to do. The same stuff that gave the schlock he mocks on his show, also lead to some great shows, and he laments that this spirit of experimentation and risk taking is nowhere near as present. He doesn't say modern anime is bad, he says that in his opinion, it's not as great as it used to be. Modern Anime has less valleys, but also doesn't peak nearly as high. Coz people won't take as many risks.
But ya know, since none of you apparently watched the video, guess you'd not know that.

And as such, he apparently hasn't watched modern anime, because there is more variation and experimentation, especially in animation styles then ever thanks to Webgen animators becoming more and more prominent as the years go by.
Just because he thinks there might not be more experimentation in anime doesn't mean there isn't.

Watch SymphogearThere are so many people who think works from older time is better, and this is something that applies to not just anime but also music, films, etc. I have a feeling that most of those people realize that there WERE shit tons of bad works in the past...only that they are forgotten and the only good works are remembered. Well, bad works that are in a whole another level do also get remembered, but y'all know what I mean.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Bennett's taste in older anime arguably isn't even that good either. He hates Cult Classic's like Street Fighter II The Animated Movie and Vampire Hunter D. Doesn't he also dislike AKIRA too?
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterHe doesn't dislike Akira, he finds it overhyped as people tend to overlook its issues (which it has in abundance, being a very trimmed down adaptation of the first half of a manga).
To finish off Urban Vision month, Sage will next review their very first release, Bio Hunter.
I liked Sage's previous title card artist better.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency
