The Black Death is its own subtrope, so I'd like to avoid a picture referencing that. But there's so much classical artwork on plagues that it shouldn't be hard to find something. Here's a couple of pics.

Good point. Looking at that page, I think my suggestions get the imagery across more clearly than that page's current pic.

For a fictional work, [1]◊ (from a comic of Spiral Zone) is decent.

Don't really see the issue that some people have with it though. Or rather, what do they think would make a more effective/demonstrative illustration of the trope?
