I've recently finished the first two Darksiders games. And I'm definitely going to buy and play the third!
I've bought both remastered games so I can play them both before I go through D3.
I didn't play much of the second one myself. The first time I'd heard of this series it was described to me as "God Of War meets Legend of Zelda." I picked up the second one and I saw this RPG progression mess and didn't want to be bothered leveling things up and finding the right loot and doing side quests a little at a time.
I'd be happier with something a little more straight-forward.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I just hope that in this game they cut down on the puzzles. Those don't really belong in an action game and I don't see what their point is aside from padding.
That's because they don't put much thought into making them interesting in the first place.
IGN had a 2 hour preview build to play with. Some stuff we learn
- The fire mode we see Fury in a "Hollow". There's one for each elements. The fire Hollow allows her to cross lava and deal fire damage and do a double jump and burn obstacles in the environment. It doesn't appear to be Fury's "True Form". Hollows play a huge role in expanding where you can go.
- There's a crafting system.
- There is less enemy variety than in Darksiders 2, but enemies do get tougher as you progress
- Combat revolves heavily around a counter system.
- The world design consist of 6 interconnected dungeons who are visually distinct. Think more Super Metroid's Zebes than the previous two Darksiders as the dungeons are heavily interconnected.
- Puzzles fit more logically with the environment. No "Kill all enemies for the door to unlock" or weirdly out of place puzzles.
- The preview build had performance issues and weird bugs (Invisible walls that shouldn't be there preventing what should be easy jumps) enough for IGN to feel it was worth mentioning.
- There's no mention if there's a specific skill tree to go with the level system. You can spend souls to improve your health and attack as you level up.
- Story wise The game is supposed to expand on the ending of Darksiders 2

Some video game heroes will find a key to open a door.
Fury will learn to set herself on fire to cross rivers of magma.
I'm really starting to like this lady.
There's still key puzzle (They show one where Fury has to find 3 swords and return them to three statues)
An interview with Cissy Jones, the voice actress for Fury, and how she got the role.
I wonder if this game will also end with Fury being saved from certain doom by the seal breaking summoning her along with the other Horsemen.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAs I mentioned, they say this will expand on the ending of Darksiders 2, so we're going to get more details presumably on the seals and Death's resurrection of humanity.
really
This sounds like a non-conventional, logistically sound puzzle. Find the swords and stick them on statues - probabl by killing a bunch of enemies to clear the path to each sword.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I wonder if it was at all possible to make the names "Pestilence" and "Famine" to work. Not sure which one I'd give to the female character though.
Doubt it. Granted, the names aren't that important. Remember that in this setting the Horsemen aren't an Anthropomorphic Personification of various ills. Their names are just names.
Disgusted, but not surprisedA cutscene shows how Fury gets her Flame Form
Interesting she has a Female Watcher who seems far more agreeable than the one in the first game.
Less enemy variety than 2? Meh...
I'd imagine it's because Fury is willingly working for the Council rather than being sent to clean up her own mess like War was.
I still don't trust that Watcher though. That whole species is extremely shifty, even in that Abomination Vault book.
Nothing can be commented about variety, as they said the bestiary will include both old and new enemies, but the enemy squad that attacks you for each encounter has less enemies in some sort of way to make the battles more "personal."
So, less being mobbed? The character design alone looks more fun. And detailed.
Going through Darksiders 2 at the mo and it is wonderful. It'll be interesting having a Watcher back - this one seems to actually be "nice" or at least more subservient than War's - but War's was a "jailer" - this one seems more a partner.
Also, I do hope we get more on the Lilith / Lucifer (Dark Lord) development; or a Sammael cameo.
It depends. All of the Horsemen's stories are happening concurrently, at least in some respect. Fury might end up seeing War rampage around Earth at some point, if her own mission takes long enough.
Concurrently in that there's a 100 year gap between DS 1's prologue and DS 1's ending.
DS 2 takes place during that gap (Implied to be closer to the start) and DS 2's end, baring the ending cinematic, is before DS 1's actual main plot.
We know that SOME of DS 3 is supposed to happen after DS 2 (Presumably After Death dies, before War revives him).
I thought that as Death was sacrificing himself to resurrect humanity that War's story was coming to an end and that's why Death survived. I imagine Fury's might have a similar outcome. War is gone for a hundred years between the prologue and the game actually starting, not between the prologue and ending.

I wonder if we’ll get a hint as to what was Strife up too if only in a tease for the next game.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Alcohol. Lots and lots of it.
