This show feels like it came out fifteen years too late for the genre it's trying to be a part of, and so do the character designs. At least Kiriha is cute.
It's been fun.I'm personally enjoying the throwback to the earlier era, seeing as many modern anime trends are shit.
Episode 3:
Kokuyou is here, and man, she's has great... appetite. Also is really sarcastic.
That round of "arm wrestling" was awesome. Way better than normal.
Plot gets into a higher gear with the introduction of Kukuri and the fact that Kazuya is responsible for amasogi creation. Things don't look good for our heroes.
Man, they are going hard with the foreshadowing and flashbacks. I think it's way more than it was in the manga at this point.
Bringing this thread back. Mainly just because I've finished binging the manga . Things just got real. (I need to add some to the tropes page).
Now I'm really wondering how far the anime is going to get up to. Anyone know how many episodes its scheduled for?
MAL has 12, not the most reliable source though.
Huh people posting in this thread?! I stopped updating because I though it would turn out like the Twin Star Exorcist one.
I too binged it not so long ago. I put it on hold after the thing happened, and will read it either after it's fixed or the series is completed.
I put those Wild Mass Guesses up that I mentioned. Feel free to comment or expand on them.
Episode 6: And now a lolicon deity. A very touchy-feely lolicon deity. No, just no.
Yeah, that's not going anywhere.
Oh, the manga is so, so much worse.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleIt's so so much worse, but damn if it isn't good art inbetween the smut.
Looking to upgrade to park bench. From what I heard, the Tsugumomo manga is borderline H. After looking it up I really wonder how it ever got an anime.
Studio execs were having a slow day.
Si Vis Pacem, Para PerkeleEpisode 8: This episode was brought to you by the Axe Effect.
Kiriha is really annoying. She's like some bargain-bin tsundere from some 90s harem anime. I low-key cheered when the older sister held her pudding hostage.
And the timeless Obi spirit and immortal deity... literally run around like kids in a candy shop.
Okay, Kiriha might be annoying, but The Pudding Song was funny.
Huh, I swear I've seen the unpopular losers be portrayed as a zombie hivemind before. Their janky movements amuse me more than they should. Want! Girls!
Crazy how lewd this show can get. It's not satisfied with typical ecchi contrivances.
Speaking from having read the manga, as the song says "You ain't seen nothing yet".
Speaking of the manga, for those who have read it, anyone got any theories on who Fox Mask might be. As I said on the WMG page, at this point there are only a couple of people it could be and my guess is Chisato.
The main thing is that while in theory it could be Sunao but while we might be able to conceive of a reason for her to hold her identity from Kazuya, there's no reason to keep that information from the audience. In fact really the only reason for Fox Mask's identity not to be revealed to the audience is if it's a character we already know, but don't know that they're an exorcist. Which at this point leaves only Chisato.
Episode 9: We go from a dating sim fiasco to the lingering curse of the someone who committed suicide. It's... okay? Don't really care about it. It's handled as typical monster of the week, so... Yeah, next episode should be more up my alley. More goofy shenanigans. New girl incoming who's pretty much guaranteed to end up in the nude somehow.
P.S. Obi Wheel is rad.
Actually even Sunao's (the incoming new girl) arc gets a little dark. In general things tend to get a little darker and more serious from here on out. This is not to say the ecchi comedy romps vanish (far from it) but the adversaries start getting a little more serious and darker in tone.
New episode out. Sunao appears and... is actually kind of by-the-numbers.
Welp, looks like it's going to be one cour. Episode preview for 12 says it's the final. Judging by the scenes, it's going to finish the fight with Sunao and the immediate aftermath.
Truthfully a little dissappointed. I was hoping for two cour and to go a little further in. Especially since they tweaked Sunao's introduction to mention Tsuzura Temple early.
Mmm, Sunao and Kazuya's fight is actually pretty sweet. Looking forward to the conclusion of their duel next episode.
Episode 12: Power Obi! Niiiiice. +1 to harem.
Huh, I guess this was the last episode. Overall a fun throwback, with surprisingly good action scenes and impressively brazen smut (I hear the manga is even more bold).
Yep. And getting bolder as it goes I would argue. Would be better with the removal of a line from a latter arc involving a couple of members of the track and field team but that just me.
Having finally gotten around to watching the last episode (stuff happening yesterday), quick question for someone who can read moon runes regarding the translations. The translation of the manga I'm reading uses Ascension rather than Divine Possession (both aiming in the same general direction, so it may be a stylistic choice to go with the more compact term) and more significantly "Muscle Enhancing Weave" rather than "Power Weave".
Now my spoken Japanese isn't great, but I can't pick out a bit and "chikara" = "power" is probably the most straight forward translation. So my questions is, does the anime use different terms from the manga or is the translation I'm reading taking liberties?
A story of a boy and his Obi fighting Amasogi. A fun, simple premise, though it might prove more complicated than it seems . Kihara is a riot and I just love her Obi powers.
As an adaptation is near perfect, and closely follows the manga. I'm genuinely impressed.
