"What could possibly go wrong?"
"Surprise, muthafuckas"
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. That being said, moving the Asgardians to Earth is not the smartest idea, since we have no idea where they would be moved anyway, not to mention we all know the shitstorm between the Israeli and the Palestinians, so imagine when there's a race full of superstrong people, one of them tried to conquer Earth, even if their leader is a member of the Avengers.
Thoughts: Meh, I wasn't a fan of the thor films already, but this one is too much MCU formulated, Hela is meh, and I think the planet hulk arc deviates too much from the main plot.

I'm not crazy, just creatively different. This is starting to sound like it's exactly what I hoped it wouldn't be. Which is a joke-per-minute comedy that's so packed that nothing feels like it has any weight.
"In 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important."Just got back from seeing this film,it was great! Loved the comedy
My favourite part of the movie was when Hulk just wanted to smash Surtur at the end
New theme music also a boxI really really enjoyed this movie. It was hilarious, but it also had some genuinely heartwarming moments. I don't think the comedy was too much or overshadowing the seriousness. I loved the ending too and absolutely didn't see it coming. Probably, some people won't like that the trailers were not accurate and a bit misleading to not spoil anything, but I actually liked that. I hate it when trailers already show everything.
Why did they make Hela Odin's daughter? I know poetic license, but even in the comics she was made Loki's daughter. That's one problem I have with the MCU and their handling of mythology is that a lot of it wouldn't make sense, when you factor in when you have the mortals saying that Loki is Laufey's son but he still for no millennia doesn't know it. Or the fact that Hela is Odin's daughter in this version, but the myths have her as Loki's. Sorry, but I really now kind of wish they gotten a younger actress, and cast her as Hela then change it so that Hela could still rise up to take vengeance but it's about how Asgard persecuted her and her siblings due to a prophecy.
"They're space vikings, mate."
No excuse.
No, it really is. If someone is going to the Thor films at this point expecting an accurate representation of mythology then I guess I feel for them, but that was a very unwise decision.
Not an absolute, but that pet peeve of mine is the fact that Hela has usually been depicted as Loki's daughter. And I say it could have been a wealth of stories if they made her than, instead of Odin's daughter.
Loki having a daughter would raise way too many questions.
This song needs more love.I'm still waiting for him to give birth to a horse.
Hela being Odin's daughter raises just as much questions.
my problem with that is that I feel like it's undercooked. She and Odin don't get a scene together in the present to close that plotline up, and her and Thor being brother and sister is never really used all that effectively (also they don't interact that much throughout the film anyway). The brother/sister angle ends up feeling, superfluous. The reason why the Thor/Loki dynamic works is because they take advantage of the sibling angle and use it to color both character's actions. That, doesn't really happen here. Of course if Hela turns out to NOT really be dead (I'm still not sure if she's meant to be or not judging by that last scene, but I truly hope that she isn't) and they do more with her in future films, then I might change my mind on that.
Not particularly, no. In fact they do a fairly decent job of explaining why she's never been brought up before and why her existence was kept secret. With Loki as the father that becomes way more complicated.
that wasn't my point. they do explain it, but the way that it's explained makes making her a family member feel, superfluous. they don't do anything really interesting with it. as it stands, I left feeling like she didn't need to be a family member at all and nothing of real note would change.

I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to the charge that making her Odin's daughter left just as many questions as Loki having a previously unmentioned adult daughter who looks older than him would have, which I disagreed with.
I would say that if they wanted to go with the daughter angle, they could have chosen a younger actress. Since they are slowly aged, I think they could have had this actress be someone in her early twenties. Also again this really goes into the fact that how would mortals know about Hela, but Thor doesn't. With Angela, it worked better because the myths and the Agardians themselves don't know about her. However, with Hela you have tons of myths about her, and most of them have it be Loki's daughter.
Can't agree. Blanchett was one of my favorite parts of the movie. And again, not to be a dick just repeating "That's not how it is in the myths" is more or less irrelevant at this point. We were having this same argument when the first movie came out and everyone got pissed about a certain casting choice.
Something that did surprise me,major spoilers by the way Thor having his eye cut down

I can understand the Race Lift casting choice. However, I do think making her Thor's sister was a bad mistake.
I mean, Cate Blanchett. If you’ve got a good/fun role for an older actress (which is still somewhat rare), then keep it. Don’t rewrite it for a 20 year old.
If she HAD to be younger, but they wanted to keep Blanchett, they could have done some hand wave about accelerated aging due to Magic Reason.
That could have worked as well.
