I'm not generally a fan of tragedies, and Suka Suka looks too by-the-numbers to change my mind. I'll probably keep an eye on it on the off chance they manage to do something meaningful with it, but I've got low expectations.

Love Tyrant episode 2: The pace thankfully slows down here compared to the first episode. Gives the jokes time to actually breathe compared to how rapid fire and "lol so random" the first episode was. I get the feeling that the MC is doomed to be pretty flat in this series, but to his credit he's at least much smarter than the average Harem Lead.

More first episode impressions:

  • Fukumenkei Noise: Okay, I have to admit that "In No Hurry to Shout" is a great name for a rock band. Anyway... the classic dinner-plate shoujo eyes bothered me more than it probably should have. And this classic shojo vibe permeates the entire thing which has given me a general distaste for it. The male lead probably shares a similar dilemma to the lead of Your Lie in April, but presented in a clunkier way. Basically, if you don't like romance/drama shojo, this show feels like too much of a rough draft to change your mind. Oh, and the music is decent-ish, but it's nowhere near actually good.
  • SukaSuka: I must admit I had the wrong impression of this show; I thought it was typical RPG fantasy stuff, but it is anything but. Heck, I'd call it one of the better fantasy offerings this season. The writing was definitely a lot tighter than I expected— the kids for instance, they really act like kids. And it strikes a nice balance of explaining things and leaving some plot threads hanging.

In other news:

  • MC Glenn Radars of Akashic Records finally struts his stuff. He's a more decent guy now, but also more generic. LN stuff will be LN stuff I guess. I will always love the Calling Your Attacks fakeouts though.
  • Sagrada Reset continues to be inexplicably dry. The likable, enigmatic girl died, which I'd say would have been sad if I actually cared about her. Eh, this really should be a lot more engaging than it currently is.
  • The masks have literally come off in Tiger Mask. Time for our buff dudes to mull things over. They need the time for their bones to heal, anyway.
  • The final skit of episode 2 of Warau Salesman turns out to be an effective aesop, for once. More of that, please.

sin Nanatsu no Taizai: Reasonably entertaining. Remarkably fast paced. Animation quality is very erratic, with a lot of scenes being markedly limited in animation but the fanservicey parts being more than fine. If you like this sort of thing I'd say it's worth hunting down the uncensored version

Sword Oratoria: Fairly good. Strong animation and the characters are entertaining enough. My near-complete unfamiliarity with the original never felt like a problem. Also, does Lefiya remind anyone else of Lillie?

Ugh, had five shows I'm interested in today. Though I think I'm dropping Hinako Note and Bahamut, so future Fridays will only be fairly packed

Phew, lots of stuff:

Re:Creators': Second episode was even better than the first. They are dealing with the situation fairly well... most of them. One in particular has a problem adjusting. This is really interesting.

Someone should make a thread for this. I'll do it tomorrow since it's late here if no one else does.

Akashic Record: It sometimes flirts with being good, but then just pulls back again into shit territory. MC is remarkably awful.

Seikai Suru Kado: This is shaping up to be a great sci-fi story. I was suprised when the episode ended, because I was so engrossed I lost track of time.

Sword Oratoria: Good, if rushed adaptation. Nice to see Aiz again tho.

Still need to catch up with Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai and Eromanga-sensei. This season sure is busy.

I don't know why anyone would bother with Eromanga sensei after the disaster that was Oreimo's ending (And in hindsight, the whole series).

Because it is already not incest?

That and anyone who uses 'light novel protagonist' as an insult is automatically lovable.

There's already a thread for it and most people who are watching it are hoping the author won't cop out and that we get a full incest route this time because the siblings aren't blood related like in Oreimo.

"But they're not blood-related!" is already a cop-out excuse to make incest okay, so it better not pull that crap either.

More first episode impressions:

  • ID-0: Android bodies and space piracy are a good match. Who knows where the story will go from here— if it's going to be like Bubuki Buranki we'll be treated to a hodgepodge of ideas. I'll reserve my judgement on the characters for next episode. Oh, and nice to have a fictional material that doesn't have "-ium" tacked on the end.
  • DanMachi: Sword Oratoria: Only watching this for Ais, who's cute and cool and totally deserved her own spinoff. This definitely feels like a "Railgun", if that makes sense. Tione and Tiona made a better impression here than in the original series, and Bete is still Bete. The main issue then would be Lefiya, who is not the sort of personality I enjoy. It was also nice to see how that minotaur ended up traumatizing Bell in the first place. Overall, though, it's nothing special on its own, and I would have abandoned it if I hadn't watched the main series.

I'll be checking out Atom tomorrow. Man are there a lot of shows this cour.

Atom The Beginning is pretty decent. Good visuals and an interesting world, with the only major flaw being some awkward exposition (...I'm counting the character designs as a minor flaw)

Dropping Alice to Zouroku. It's in no way bad, but I just can't get into it. Not sure about Re:Creators, either; found ep 2 boring and kind of dumb

Grimoire of Zero: So we start off with exposition from the narrator again. I'm fine with such being done in the first episode, but I feel it's lame writing to worldbuilding like that. Also, apparently every magic user is called a witch, even the blond boy, who I hate. You can tell he's a child by how stupid he is. Talks about a woman having big boobs in front of strangers he just met, and then asking one of them for his head. If that was suppose to be endearing, it's not. Just made me want to kill him.

Also, did they make a Skyrim reference with the mayor? I... I'm not sure how to feel about that.

And during that battle scene, where Zero put some villagers to sleep, shouldn't the fire from the torch spread onto the ground and engulf them?

Witch Species is popular in Japanese media

Also, did they make a Skyrim reference with the mayor? I... I'm not sure how to feel about that.

I just figured that was whoever did the subs thinking they were funny.

The episode itself was a bit basic but enjoyable but overall it feels like the show is missing something that I cannot put my figure on. I am liking the main character but Zero (to a lesser extent) and the kid haven't really grown on me yet. The opening was good as well.

ID-0 Episode 2 was relatively good with some nice info on the mind transfer mecha and some minor development on the other characters. Also, it could just be the colours but I am getting something of a sentai team feel from the cast as a whole.

EDIT: [down]Interesting if cringe worthy.

[up]It was the author of the original LN series thinking she was funny. The phrasing is a direct lift from the Japanese version of Skyrim.

  • Atom: The Beginning: Hmm. Decent, with only some segments with awkward exposition. Does seem very straightforward though, which isn't really a bad thing, but it's not particularly standout either.

Wow Zero sho, unlike it's novel really isn't cheapskate when it comes throwing hints and foreshadowing.

I am surprised none guessed yet.

3rd episode of Rokudenashi also decent. It's rare get genuinely Weak, but Skilled protagonists with consistently competent heroines.

/reads spoiler

Yeah, that's about what I guessed, If you're implying what I think you're implying.

But yeah. It wasn't the worst case of Peasant Logic I've ever seen, but it was still bad enough that can call it Peasant Logic like that.

Which is also sort of a statement about the show itself. It's not actually bad, but just not quite doing anything to make it stand out. It's mostly notable because of what it's not- it's not isekai or otherwise wish-fulfillment, it's not particularly fanservicy, and it's not set in a high school.
