I don't see the issue with it, to be honest.

I suppose someone would argue with it in terms of how much of a gap the technology might have.

Alternate suggestions from Strike Witches the Movie [1] [2] [3]. If needed, a combination of [4] and [5] or [6].

[up]Something of that could work.

I think the Star Trek suggestion failed because at the end of it, they're both so far out of real life technology you can't determine which is more advanced, especially since a sleek ship looks more advanced than a random mash of plates and pipes in the shape of a huge cube.

Gotta say this one looks a little easier to take in at a glance. Probably too alien on the other side.

I voted against the original Borg suggestion because while they are a good example, they don't look like a good example due to their more industrial/low tech aesthetic.

Of the current suggestions I think 4.2/6.2 is the best.

I would like to suggest some sort of crop of this piece from Warhammer40000

I think most of the WH40K suggestions look like sci-fi army vs sci-fi army. And as much as I like that franchise above Strike Witches, the latter makes for a better image.

[up][up] Honestly, I am little bit bias against putting examples from sci-fi works, as I feel like it muddies the "technologically advanced" part of things. Like in 9.1, just because one side is outnumbered doesn't mean they have inferior tech. 9.2 has the problem where one side seems like humans with regular military gear, but the foes themselves don't quite show the technological advantage. And 9.6 it is robots versus Horde of Alien Locusts, which sort of feels off.

Yeah, they're pretty muddy for the trope...I was really hoping for a more clear pic of the Imperial Guard vs an army like the Necrons but no such luck.

Back when the Civ IV expansion Beyond the Sword launched, Firaxis and 2K had a bunch of webcartoonists draw Civ-themed comics about the series. I think a few of them might work:

[up] That first one looks like a good idea for Never Bring A Knife To A Gunfight...there's already a suggestion for that in the suggestion thread, but if enough people agree we could split that off to its own thread.

Two of the suggestions I made downsized, with some chopping on the second picture.

I think the sheer scale of that huge flyer vs. the tanks on the ground helps sell the second one more, although both work.

Hand to check out the battle scenes from Strike Witches in order to understand who is fighting who. The images are not really clear about it.
