Darker and Edgier and Cerebus Syndrome (As well as their counterparts Lighterand Softer and Reverse Cerebus Syndrome) have been subject to MAJOR misuse.

Darker and Edgier and Lighter and Softer are supposed to apply to new installments of a franchise (E.G: a reboot) and yet people keep putting in a darker or lighter tone during a show. (E.G: The entries for Gravity Falls, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and Archie Sonic the Hedgehog)

Cerebus Syndrome and Reverse Cerebus Syndrome are supposed to be for a tone shift DURING a single installment (E.G, from season 1 to season 3) and yet people keep putting in a darker or lighter tone in single installments.

I'm leaning towards a major clean-up effort, but you can post your thoughts here.

I think part of the confusion might be in that Cerebus Syndrome isn't really about darkness but about seriousness. It's more a switch from comedy to drama than light to dark.

Cerebus Syndrome has a bad case of Trope Namer Syndrome (literally), so if we're doing a TRS for it I think a rename would help.

I agree. I have no idea what Cerebus the Aardvark is and always assumed it was Cerberus Syndrome until looking more closely. Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure indicates it needs a rename.

Still, a work becoming more dramatic means something has ro become dark somehow. They're overlapping concepts, but Darker and Edgier can apply to appearance and atmosphere of the world rather than just the story (which is the focus of Cerebus Syndrome).

In case of Lighter and Softer vs RCS, though, I can understand the distinction: a work may be more comedic while still retaining its darkness (see Black Comedy), but most of the time, more comedic = more lighthearted (LAS).

Another problem is how DAE and LCS as written are limited to adaptations or reboots. It should count sequel examples that are already there.

I say these should be the crowner options:

- Keep the pages as is

- Add a greater distinction between darkness and seriousness

- Rewrite Darker and Edgier and Lighter and Softer to be about reboots, sequels, and adaptations, and rewrite Cerebus Syndrome and Reverse Cerebus Syndrome to be about a specific work

- Merge Darker and Edgier and Cerebus Syndrome, and Lighter and Softer and Reverse Cerebus Syndrome

Locking this for Poor OP that fails to prove the misuse is a problem and not just something that happens on a rare occassion.
