I have to admit I'm rather interested in where the story's gonna go from here and what exactly the world outside is like. Has it been completely taken over by the monsters or is it more like a war between them and the humans, with the meat farm just being in the demon's territory and sphere of influence?
I am hoping that when the series eventually gets out of the Orphanage, it doesn't become an Attack On Titan style battle manga, and instead becomes more like Over The Garden Wall, where it's kids wandering around a strange and terrifying world.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...Haven't seen Over The Garden Wall but I do think that sounds more interesting. They're just little kids so I don't think they really have the power to change much anyways.
Alternatively, this being a shonen series, it will be because they're kids that they're capable of making changes.
Well first they have to escape & survive then decide whether or not they can change the world.
Cause their fucking kids man. The main trio are eleven for God's sake!
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, this is new. It's certainly an interesting twist on existing concepts, but then again, so are a lot of good stuff. It's be nice to be able to read a new series like this.
So I'm reading this now. I did get Attack On Titan vibes, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but I think it's different enough to work so long as it's less "fighting/exterminating the demons" and more "strategically think of ways to survive" which it seems like it's going to be.
The thematic basis of this story is "hide and seek" or "playing tag". That's been a running theme since the first chapter, and it works even better if you realize that in Japanese the game of tag is known as "playing demon". There was even an early scene where Emma was chasing some little kids with a playful "I'm gonna eatcha!"
So basically this whole series so far is set up as an incredibly high stakes game of Tag, where there actually are demons who actually want to eat you.
Yeah, I think in Japan "it" in tag is referred to as "oni". I expect a lot of running and hiding from this series.
I do appreciate how Mama isn't a demon in disguise. And since any of them escaping likely means her death, the situation is life-and-death for her too. It'll be interesting to see how long this little game goes on.
Count me in on this new bandwagon. The first chapter quickly hooked me in.
First 35 pages: "Hey, this is nice, it kinda reminds me of Children of the Whale with that quiet atmosphere". Page 36: "…No. No it doesn't."
…So this is a Shonen Jump series? You sure they didn't accidentally send the manuscripts to the wrong magazine?
Remember that this magazine once published Fist Of The North Star decades ago.
Standards may have changed, but with Attack on Titan's popularity, there's a paradigm shift in more mainstream Shonen magazines in which horrific gore might become more commonplace again.
Watch Symphogeareven then, the worst of any gore was in chapter one. Everything else has been atmosphere.
Well, we can't exactly have kids being slaughtered every chapter. Well, that could happen, but it would make less sense and the story less interesting.
Hmm… I would have prefered romance to stay out of the story (considering they're all, you know... basically siblings), but otherwise this is looking pretty interesting. Three smart kids with no one really taking the spotlight from the others, and an "outside world mystery" where the nature of the enemy isn't very clear.
My only concern so far is that Ray and Norman might not be distinct enough in their personalities. And also that the writing might be too "deathnote-y" in the long run (i.e. lots and lots of reasonning and exposition, not much emotion). We'll see.
The sibling relationship honestly only seems important to Emma. Like, I'm sure Ray and Norman care but neither of them is above saying/thinking "If we can only save ourselves, I'll leave all these under six-year-olds behind".
The whole love thing bothered me more because they're 11.

I think Emma should prevent any issues involving lack of emotion. That seems to be her role on the trio. She's the McCoy to Ray's Spock and Norman's Kirk.
So, is everyone okay with talking about spoilers or not?
I don't see why not. This series is a case of First-Episode Spoiler, far as I'm concerned. Biggest thing so far's already come and gone

Well, it's not much either way.
It seems they've brought in another woman to help Mama. And there's a new baby, and it looks like Mama is going to somehow use it (looks like a boy) against them.

Good. She fully realizes Virtue Is Weakness.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Escape becomes harder the more people they have, now that one of them can't even walk on their own...yeah, it's a clever move. Especially now that there is another pair of eyes keeping a close watch on things.

where are you guys finding these spoilers?
I just looked on Mangahead.
That has the potential to be a spanner in the works if they aren't careful. What of Mama checks in with her masters on a regular basis?
