Warriors of Light: A Final Fantasy-esque RPG

I'm tempted to be a SWAT Breach Specialist who turns into a Rogue. Can I be a thief that specializes in literal house-breaking, busting walls and doors with a hammer?

• Name: Yamazaki Yuzuki

  • Silence - Yuzuki fires a specialized crossbow bolt that saps magic from the target on impact, preventing spellcasting.
  • Barrage - Yuzuki fires multiple crossbow bolts at once.

  • In-depth knowledge of the last 12 seasons of anime.
  • Very adept with cosmetics due to her hobby.
  • Dabbled in mechanics for props; that might prove useful here maybe?
  • Also; can into tailoring!
• Keepsakes: A comfy set of prop holsters that might hold value as an actual weapon holster, one train ticket, about 2,475 yen, a receipt from MgRonald's (total cost: 525 yen), a cellphone (without a charger; seriously, who takes their charger around with them every day?), and a Brand-Name Portable Games Console.
• Appearance: Yuzuki didn't quite come out of the incident exactly the same as she did going in. She's always had long, dark hair and a small frame, but apparently the cross-universal/dimensional/whatever-al magic didn't get the memo that the ears and tail she wore were part of a costume. Yuzuki is very confused by this, but not exactly disappointed either.◊
• Personality: Fun-loving and energetic, but a little worried about bothering people she doesn't know yet. Loves cute stuff, and also acting cute.
• Bio: Yuzuki's life, for the most part, has been boring and uneventful - her focus being more on whatever entertainment product caught her fancy at any given moment more than long term goals. Before the incident she primarily "focused" on keeping up with her job at a local maid cafe... whose paychecks were immediately funneled into the lucrative acquisition of anime, manga, video games, plushies, and cosplay supplies.

• Abilities:
  • Chakra: While David is unable to use magic, he is able to tap into another spiritual energy that is called "Chakra". David can use it to heal himself or one other ally.

  • Kick: Attacks all enemies, but deals less damage

  • Pugilist: Due to Hong Kong's strict weapons laws, David was primarily trained in fighting unarmed. Deals greater damage when fighting barehanded or with knuckles.

• Keepsakes: Smartphone, Wallet containing his ID, house key, some cash and a smartcard. a backpack containing a metal water bottle (full), a food container with his lunch, weighted knuckle-gloves, and a large notebook.

• Skills:
  • Trilingual (speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin).

  • Second-year Biology major, going into Nursing. Knows a lot about the body and can perform basic first-aid.

  • Martial Artist: Started learning in elementary school, and regularly trains to de-stress.

  • Closet Otaku: Recently got hooked on Toku series (Kamen Rider in particular).

• Appearance: Standing at around 5'10, this is David's appearance, sans cigarette◊. The night of the incident, David was dressed in a red T-shirt, dark jacket, blue jeans and sneakers.

• Personality: Friendly and forthright in nature, but slightly shy. To those that he has managed to befriend, David is a person who is easy to talk to and wears his heart on his sleeve. While normally a mellow person, David is quick to anger and becomes aggressive when provoked, but is also quick to calm down once he sees reason.

• Bio: Born and raised in Hong Kong, David's life was normal for the most part. Formerly an introvert until the end of High school, David saw University as an opportunity to improve himself, and began to reach out and befriend others. He also managed to help pay his bills by tutoring high-school students in Biology. The night of the incident, David was at the library studying with a couple of friends, when he suddenly found himself flat on his butt in a completely different world...

• Appearance: Emi stands about 4’ 9” with short messy black hair with a red streak on the right side, and green eyes. Has a rather pretty if average appearance, and likes to wear a bit of paraphernalia from some of her favorite games. On her back around her shoulder blades, she has a tattoo of two white and fluffy angel-like wings with a swirl in them. Also has her ears pierced with small simple ring earrings.

• Personality: Emi is a rather peppy girl, with a positive outlook on life and a rather tomboyish feel to her. She is generally kind to people, but not afraid to kick a guy in his sensitive bits if he’s being a dick. Or deck a girl who is being a bitch, Emi doesn’t discriminate. She is a gigantic JRPG and Fighting Game nerd though, and a long-time lover of the series called Final Fantasy.

• Bio: Emi was a rather nerdy girl growing up, living a comfy life as she made her way through her early years, mostly caring to play video games in her downtime. A little after graduating from high school, she started going to University and working a part time job to fuel her love of gaming and gaming trinket collection.

Name: Alaisdair "Blockhead" Mac Tavish

Origin: Edinburgh, Scotland

Class: Thief

Abilities/Spells: Attack, Steal, and Flee

Keepsakes: Seeing as he'd been yanked after a particularly-grueling operation, he still bears his BDU and his operations armor and mask, along with a radio, his wallet, and a flashbang. As well as The Caber◊.

Skills: Along with most of the typical skills and expertises of a 34 year-old copper from Britain, his strength is born from being in the running for the all-time highest ranking for the SAS' speed and strength qualifying exam.

He also has a thing for practical gardening and coin tricks. The former because it is a far smarter investment of time than most realize. The latter because coin tricks make children smile.

Appearance: Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity.

Personality: Though brutal in appearance, Alasdair (or Alistair) is a quiet and thoughtful man, practically unfazeable. A man of strong desire for public service, Alasdair does what he does best by being a stern leader who does his best to care for his command.

Bio: Former under-20s rugby star. To a decade of military service. And finally, public service. Alasdair Mac Tavish, call sign "Blockhead", had stood firm in his belief to serve and protect the people of the United Kingdom.

It was this dedication that made him climb out of bed to fill in the place of a friend who'd needed to care for her mother. It was a hostage situation that went south. Far too south. Into the storm of that firefight, heavily-armored and losing his issued armaments, Blockhead went.

And disappearing into a land not his own, Blockhead did.

• Skills: Since she wants to be a police woman, she's learned as much as a teenager could to be a good one before reaching college. She's taken up a few sports—basketball, volleyball, badminton—but mainly does running and swimming and so she's fit and good at the latter two. She knows a few moves from the Philippine martial arts, Eskrima, known as Arnis in English. She's also a rather good sketcher and listener. She speaks English, Cebuano and Filipino.
• Appearance: Standing at 5'8'', the nineteen year old woman has a fit and lean build. Her light brown skin has a scar on her left arm. Her dark brown hair is straight and reaches behind her shoulder blades while her eyes are green. Her attire, consisted of a white shirt, a pink long sleeved polo shirt, blue jeans, white rubber shoes and her yellow bracelet with a keychain in the shape of a dagger, given to her by her late boyfriend.
• Personality: A friendly woman who likes jokes, she's patient and calm. She cares a lot about others and is very empathetic, thus willing to help with problems. Though she doesn't seem like it, this somewhat stems from what she's been through and thus not wanting anyone else to feel the unexpected loss of a loved one. She can be stubborn and reckless at times because of this.
• Bio: The elder sister of two children, Elisa grew up rather normally with her brother, Elliot, and her best friend Carmelo. Then her parents and brother died at a car crash when she was thirteen. Carmelo's parents took her in and Carmelo helped her through her loss. Things returned to normal for a while, with Carmelo becoming her boyfriend. Then when she was seventeen, she and Carmelo were caught up in a bank robbery. Carmelo took a lethal shot meant for her. She and his parents mourned at his death, but instead of falling into despair, she decided to be part of the police. After graduating high school, with Carmelo's parents help, she was attending college, majoring in criminology...until she ended up here.

Origin: Amarillo, Texas, USA.

Class: Warrior

Abilities/Spells: N/A? I'm somewhat confused over what to put here.

Keepsakes: Homemade leather armor (cuirass, vambraces, and greaves), store-bought leather gloves, his late grandpa's duster and 'ropers' (short-heeled boots), new jeans, new shirt (green), keys to his house and car, and lastly, a blunt sparring longsword (Rawlings synthetic, if anyone knows/cares what that means).

Skills: Basics of longsword fencing (and I do stress basics, he's not a master swordsman), can play a recorder and clarinet. Can pick up where a conversation seems to be heading, good at math. Has a smooth voice.

Appearance: About 5'11", Brown-haired, green-eyed, left-handed. Somewhat resembles Nicholas Cage. Is of a medium build, and not overweight, but he is not in great physical shape, either.

Personality: Empathetic, somewhat vain, wants to be a storybook hero, i.e. Knight in Shining Armor. He likes looking cool, suave, things that he sees himself as not very good at being. He is afraid of getting hurt. He becomes nauseated when in acute pain. He wants to see everyone around him prosper. He wants those around him to be friendly. He is naively idealistic, to a certain point.

Bio: Lives in Amarillo, Texas. He's been fascinated with castles, swords, knights, and armor since he was a child. Crafty with his hands, he has constructed his own leather armor. He inherited a pair of boots and a duster that were a favorite of his grandfather's after his death five years ago.

He works as an order-taker at a fast food place, which is such a simplistic job that his imagination turns on Tolkien-esque fantasy very easily. Andrew never really fit in with his peers, in part because of his interests, and in part because of his left-handedness. If he'd been right-handed, he might've taken a greater interest in sports such as basketball or American football, but his attempts at these sports were met with ridicule due to his backwards-handedness, and he shied away from them ever since those days.

Andrew joined his local HEMA club (Historical European Martial Arts) just recently, so that he could learn how to fight with his favorite weapon: the longsword. He was about to leave for another meeting when he was pulled into this strange new world.

Alright. Umm, it's just so...barebones, actually. I can't accept it yet.

I'll probably have mine in tonight, but there's some things I need to get sorted out with my character. This was a character adapted actually from an older idea meant as a far-off sequel to Vagrant Story, but I have a feeling that he'll fit in here as well.

Alright, I hope I've fleshed him out a bit more to your liking. My original intent was to unveil his character through the RP, and that's still the main idea, but I guess I needed a more solid foundation. Sorry about that.

Yo, dog, keeping secrets from people in the RP, including the GM, is a really bad idea. Means we can't trust you to play fairly and consistently.

Taco is right. That could lead to asspulls and other unsavoty stuff.

If you can, you could always discuss it with the GM using private messages, but I'm not sure how lenient Grim is with that stuff.

I'm not gonna pull some stupid-ass legendary sword from the hammerspace dimension that I don't have and kill all the threats in the world. I've been roleplaying over a decade, please do give me the benefit of the doubt, here. That would be both boring and kill the fun for the rest of you, and that's what we're all signing up for. To have fun.

When I say 'unveil his character,' all that says is that I -don't know this guy any more than you all do-. I literally thought him up today, so while I've got a rough idea of who he is, I haven't had either the time or the experience of being in his boots to know who he is and play him to the best of my considerable ability.

so basically you want to rp as a half baked cookie? an unfinished product? you think you should be allowed in an rp when you have bothered to finish making a character?

Look dude, don't treat us like we're noobs at this. I've been playing RPs for two and a half years now, and I'm probaby the biggest noob here of the players. And there was no way we could have told you were a veteran either, considering you submitted a bland sheet and gave a list of actions for your ability set that weren't even what Grim meant when he asked for abilities (which I don't understand why he didn't bring up sooner).

Look, I'm not something who likes to get angry here, but that condescending attitude is not helping your case. For several of us, small alterations to a sheet over the course of play is a given, but the way you brought it up makes it look like you're planning game-derailing stuff behind Grim's back, which none of us want.
