As sad as it is to lose Chekov, I'm kind of glad that they aren't recasting. If Yelchin just wanted to leave, then it'd be one thing. But this tragedy, It'd just make things awkward.
You know, if she survives Beyond (and doesn't turn out to be evil), I wouldn't mind seeing Sofia Boutella's Jaylah join the crew.
Call me a sucker for the animated series, but it'd be cool to see Arex take Chekov's place again.
After much time in Development Hell, it's been announced that Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will be directing the film, with production fast tracked to begin next spring.
Hopefully this finally gets off the ground.
Planned release of the movie has been delayed from June 2023 to December.
Contract negotiations with the actors to start filming by the end of the year had officially begun.
The final script is also apparently done, written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
Hopefully, they become more budget cautious.
If they didn't spend 200 million on the last film. Than I don't think it would have bombed.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."From what I remember hearing years ago, the IP owners wanted to cut down production costs for the next movie because Into Darkness and Beyond cost too much and turned too little profit, but the executive-decreed budget ceiling was lower than even the contract fees for the actors negotiated all the way back during the first movie's production and the actors refused to renegotiate because a contract is a contract, so funding was pulled from the project altogether.

I look forward to them doing another one. I'm behind on viewings of Beyond. Gotta check it out again soon.
Got most of the other movies for my 29th birthday in 2020. Been meaning to catch up on all the ones I missed—as well as all the ones I didn't too.
My dad's a huge Star Trek fan. He wants to make sure I've seen every episode of the OS first. Haha.

So after Development Hell the gang is still the same?
Minus Chekov, of course.

So a fourth film in the JJ-verse has been officially confirmed.
What we know so far:
- Film is likely to involve time travel to some extent
- Chris Hemsworth is confirmed to be reprising his role as George Kirk and father and son will cross paths
- J.J. Abrams has publicly stated that the role of Chekov will not be recast following Anton Yelchin's death, so we're going to see someone else in the right hand chair.
"Yup. That tasted purple."
