To kill time before release of Lego Batman Movie, I've decided to watch Lego Marvel and DC animations. Which I immediately thought was a very stupid idea. No one here is talking about Batman Unlimited because it sucks, no one is talking about DC Super Hero Girls because it sucks, no one talks about Marvel Super Hero Adventures: Frost Fight! because it sucks so no one talks about Lego animations because you get the idea.

Watching Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload and Avengers Reassembled only confirmed my suspicions.Do not watch Marvel Lego cartoons. Just...just don't. They were both lifeless and terrible. I dunno if it was general bad Lego writing or your modern Marvel cartoon quality, only even more dumped down for kids, but it was bad.

Next one was Lego Batman: The Movie - DC Super Heroes Unite (And yes, Lego cartoons suffer from major Colon Cancer) and I have no one but myself to blame for watching that. It was collection of cutscenes from Lego Batman 2 with few new ones to fill gameplay gaps. So not only story was never written as movie in first place, but it was also Lego game writing, which - in my humble opinion - lost all charm since characters started talking. Voice cast was good though. Would like to see Christopher Corey Smith do Joker again.

But then...next movie not only had characters with different designs (Batman wore blue, for one thing) and voices, but also it was first meeting of Batman and Superman. It had nothing to do with previous movie! Curious, I let my guard down, tried to enjoy the show...and I did. I really did liked it and every next Lego DC animation after it. They were funny, creative and fun. Fun, remember that superheroes can be that?

They are not any masterpieces by any means, let me assure you. But neither are many DC animated movies, and I don't know about you people but I got sick of all seriousness and grittiness in these grown-up movies. I haven't even watched Justice league vs. Teen Titans yet because I'm so tired of them. And before you ask, I did enjoy Lego much more then all-ages JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time.

OK, quick rundown on movies: Batman Be-Leaguered: This one is only 20 minutes long, so I highly recommend checking it and then based on that judging if you want to see the rest. Justice League vs. Bizarro League: This one might actually be my favorite . Some of reasons include Bizzaro being surprisingly [1] and [2] and Darkseid being much more threatening then I expected. His voice was pretty cool too. Attack of the Legion of Doom: This one I liked less mostly due to many sub-plots that were either annoying (Flash and Lantern's rivalry), uninteresting (Cyborg trying to prove himself) or utterly wasted (Batman becoming a leader). Here's one gag I really liked: note  Cosmic Clash: Not much to say here, it's pretty decent-ish. Gotham City Breakout: There is one trend in these movies that is clearer here then anywhere else. Batman is major Spotlight-Stealing Squad, leaning on Mary Sue. Plot is that Batman goes on vacations while other heroes will take care of Gotham and you can guess how it goes. And yet still, Batman gets most of screen time on his "vacations" which are actually more interesting then Gotham events. Still, scene between Superman and Gordon is really funny and you don't get to see often Bane not portrayed as Dumb Muscle.

The problem with Lego movies is, once you get past The Lego Movie and the first Lego Batman, you realize they all use the exact same type of humor, and it quickly becomes as dated, one note, stereotyped and repetitive as the same things they mock. But everyone keeps giving them free passes because they look cute and because The Lego Movie was great.

The worst one has to be Lego Scooby Doo, which is basically an average Scooby Doo filler episode but made with Legos. There's no imagination or reason why they had to use Legos whatsoever, and it's not like Scooby Doo can't subvert its own tropes and play with them, from A Pup to Mystery Inc. to Be Cool.

How many times does Batman have to learn the value of friendship? I like the lego batman/justice league stuff, but Bruce seems to forget about the Power of Friendship too often.

Well, there is still visible character development, especially in Cosmic Clash when he saves his friends and when he actually seems to be upset for being excluded from JL's fun and games.

I think Attack of the Legion of Doom was a great film. Also Gotham Breakout and the first part of The Flash (haven’t seen all the movie).

If there's a book you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it. Toni Morrison
