Tsumugi was just too adorable this episode. Ah, memories of forcing little kids to eat veggies. Good times.

These last two episodes completely addressed the one stupid nitpick I had with the series (Tsugumi sometimes coming off as too-spotless a toddler). Seeing that brattier side of her made for some light tear-jerkers, and a whole bunch of laughs.

I don't understand the Japanese attitude towards bell-peppers, though. Maybe it is how they're grown there but I love bell peppers.

Just jumped in, by the way, and this series is top class fluff.

Episode 4: Doughnuts ae difficult.

I love how Kotori's biggest problem is that when she eats something she isn't eating something else. That girl sure loves food.

Also nice seeing her do normal stuff with her friend.

Oh no, Tsumugi gt kidnapped... not. It's just Yagi-chan. I too am surprised that Kouhei has friends.

Wait, I though it was weekend or something, since Kotori wasn't in school, so why was Kouhei there?

I understand Yagi suprise, I also have some old friends that I wouldn't picture cooking anything more complicated than water.

No, Tsugumi should never grow up!

Kotori is the best big sis. She always knows how to cheer Tsugumi up.

Everyone should have a friend like Yagi-chan.

Doughnuts are not that difficult to make if you watch out for oil temperature. I loved how Tsugumi build up her power to help.

Kotori also knows how to cheer Kouhei up.

Tsugumi sure found that doughnut funny.

Great episode, tackling some real question - are doughnuts a meal or are they a snack?

This would normally be an a++ episode.

Gonna have to mark it down a grade, since it proposed the idea of gyaru Tsugumi, which might be what hell looks like.

So, sadly, it's just A+.

She really is adding more gyaru slang to her speech isn't she? ._.

I actually expected Yagi to be Tsumugi's uncle or some other relative of Kouhei's late wife, and I must say I actually really like that Yagi is just a regular old friend Kouhei can count on.

Episode 6:

This might have been the funniest episode yet. Between Tsugumi and Kotori having the exact same reaction on Gyoza and Kotoroi, Tsumugi and Kouhei utter amazement when Shinobu ad Yagi started cooking my sides were in orbit.

Having all the characters together was great, because they play off each other really well.

Gyoza look positively delicious. I think I'm going to have some.

Chicken wing gyoza is delectable. I need it now.

Poor Yagi, the involuntary party crasher. Kinda hoped that he and Shinobu would become full members of the little cooking club but sounds like they'll just be dropping by every now and then. That's fine too.

Feel your feels meng. Speaking as someone that blows chunks at cooking, this ep really makes you want to get up and make gyoza.

Sigh, such a good episode. Everyone in Sweetness and Lightning is a wonderful and beautiful person you want to be friends with forever, like, christ.

Binging on the manga (no spoilies, promise), and it's reassuring that it only gets better and better from here.

Yagi and Shinobu being much better than Kotori and Kohei in cooking was funny, yeah. Also, even if the two aren't the best cooks in the world, they and Tsugumi are just having so much fun learning and eating more and more that they don't mind taking their time.

Brian the Sun need to make all the ending themes for all the anime.

Episode 7:

Talking how great you are doing while leading an unhealthy lifestyle is just asking dramatic irony to get you.

Determined Tsugumi was great. And when she started singing about sharks was amazing - just a totally random thing a kid would come up with. Tsugumi is the best child character.

Aww, Kotori is the first person Tsugumi can think off when looking for help. That's sweet.

Kouhei really dropped the ball this episode.

Just like Kotori to want to resolve everything with food.

Fried rice on a stick. Japanase dishes are amazing.

All well that's ends well.

Great episode, especially Tsugumi's trip.

Great episode, as usual.

The anime has been making a few interesting changes to the manga, but this might be the most drastic. In the manga, Kohei screams when Tsugumi gets lost at a festival, and they make the Gohei mochi afterwards. When Tsugumi goes on her little trip, Kohei is disappointed but is a lot more mellow, and forgives her. The changes might be out of necessity because of the one-cour limit, though, and it does still work and hit you in the feels.

They skipped a Tsugumi-sick chapter in its entirety though. That one has light, one-sided Kohei/Kotori ship teasing though, so...Mmmhhh????

Episode 8:

Great episode, Tsugumi was perhaps even more expressive than usual, and she sure loves squids, from making one from cardboard, to her squid dance to almost achieving epiphany.

I also liked the way they showed how much the bag means for her, since it was from her mother and she doesn't want a new one. So sweet.

Kotori is such a worrywart, and when she started munching on the bread with that expression.

I never actually eaten squid before, but this episode made a good case for trying it.

Squid tends to have the texture and elasticity of a rubber band over here, so I don't eat it. :/

Episode 9: It's that time of the week again. All aboard the feels train!

Seriously, this episode starts fun, but by the end it had me crying like a little girl. Also, now I would like to eat some curry.

This is my favorite episode so far. Finally seeing Sensei's late wife's face just makes it all the more heartrending.

Episode 10: Ahh, kids feeling down for no discernible reason,

Finally, sashimi! And a bunch of other fish dishes. I'm still not comfortable with carving fish, can't get the knife to do what I want.

Tsugumi is so great. I love how she has all those little child quirks, like mood swings that have no apparent rhyme or reason. Like this episode, there was no reason for her to be sad at the beach and then to cheer up, but that's how kids really are.

And those dances of her, so cute.

Also, Kotori sure loves food. That girl is adorable.

Now I'm craving some fish dishes.

it's too great. The cutest most lovable character in this series is literally all of them.

They're helping each other, but I honestly envy how they get things t turn out pretty alright for the first try, modt of the time. Cannot handle a knife delicately for shit.

Oh, I recommend y'all read the manga when the anime is done. The anime leaves out the best stories, but there are worthwhile characters and stories the anime had to skimp out on, out of necessity.

I have no idea who I'd have to shank to get a good dub voice for Tsumugi, but I would at least want someone on the level of Karen Strassman, in terms of technique.

Tsumugi fucking deserves an actual good actress that could play a kid.

Episode 11: You know Tsumugi has been raised well when she picks being a cute fluffball over a boring old princess.

Sweet potato crepes are okay, I guess.

Episode 11: Crepes and costumes.

Poor Tsugumi, always gets into conflicts with her friends for no good reason.

The whole class knows about Kotori love for food and respects her expertise. She's so popular. Good for you Kotori!

Little kids fight over the silliest things. Hell, that's not even limited to little kids.

Yeah, no offense to Tsumugi but the cutest costume is Kotori's. It just fits her so well!
