Yeah, having the Wolf Link around seems neat but it feels like if you don't splash out for an amiibo the field is kind of lonely. We don't necessarily need a full-on helper but some more temporary ones might be nice.

Any news on if existing Zelda amiibo will do anything or just Wolf Link and the new ones?

Isn't one of the other new amiibo, the Guardian one, supposed to give you a partner? Or is that just a guess that it will? I wouldn't be surprised if they had all 4 amiibo(including Wolf Link) give you a partner.

The cool thing is that Wolf Link has better stats depending if you scanned it into TPHD and worked with it for a good length of the game. I don't remember if you have to beat the game for max stats.

If I remember right, the wolf's HP is determined by how much HP he had left when you beat the dungeon in TP. I don't know how hard/easy that is because I haven't done that in TP yet.

[up][up]Eh, I don't think the wolf is really overpowered enough to qualify for that. That would be more like if you could pay extra to unlock the Magic Armor and Master Sword from the start of the game. This is more like an Old Save Bonus.

Yeah, having Wolf Link's amiibo is a nice bonus, but it's not a gamebreaker. Especially since he might just get slaughtered immediately by a guardian.

[up]And once he dies in the game you have to wait 24 real world hours before you can use the Wolf Link Amiibo again.

So the only way it could be game breaking is if you exit the game after Wolf Link dies than change the clock on your console.

I feel like they meant Twilight Princess HD's Cave of Shadows more than a boy and his Wolf Link.

Finishing that place at full health is almost impossible without the Sheik/Zelda amiibo, considering it's almost forty floors as Wolf Link where you can't heal, and you'll be fighting enemies such as Armos, Ice Keese and Dynalfos in groups on your way to the final floor.

That's still not pay to win though.

Part of me thinks that this is just an excuse to complain about amiibo.

Not really, it's like if DD in Metal Gear Solid V was DLC without any other partners being available. It is overpowered and unfair to those who don't have and very pay to have a big advantage.

It would be different if there were other partners in game that did the same but as far as I know there arnt.

For one: We don't know if there are more partners

Two: We don't know how effective will Wolf Link be

Three: What kind of game breaking DLC would lock you out of using it for 24 hours every time you use it?

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."

[up][up][up]Eh...
I like amiibo in general, but I think if it seems like I have the opposite stance right now it's mostly just my anti-Twilight Princess slights showing.tongue
Either that or it's the completionist in me nagging that my amazing wolf partner MUST have twenty hearts or else he isn't perfect.

[up][up][up]I don't really see how it's unfair. It's not like there's multiplayer and nothing is stopping anyone from going out and buying it themselves (there's a pretty good chance that they'll release it as a standalone soon).

Yeah, I have to agree with everyone saying that Wolf Link amiibo is not Pay-To-Win. So far, from what I've seen, it's just a neat little bonus that is not needed to complete the game, and nothing I've seen so far in the game pressures you to get the amiibo. It seems to be in the "will make the game easier if you use it, but it absolutely isn't needed to beat or enjoy the game."

I hope one thing you can buy from towns is a hunting hound.

It wouldn't be as strong as Wolf Link but would still do his job.

It seems everything you have to pay extra for nowadays is Pay-2-Win by a lot of people's standards.

There's really nothing to indicate that Wolf Link is really all that helpful anyway. He's cool, but we haven't really seen it do a whole lot other than attack weak enemies that would be pretty easy to kill anyway. Combined with the fact that you can only use it once per day anyway and the benefits are really minor. Like I said before, it's more of an Old Save Bonus; giving a bit of extra content to those who have a previous game.

It's like saying any game with an Old Save Bonus is Pay To Win because you have to have bought the previous game. Something is only PTW if it's either a major part of gameplay locked behind a pay wall or something, or if it offers a significant advantage. Pretty sure Wolf Link isn't either of those. He doesn't seem to be nearly powerful enough to qualify.

I honestly think that there will be other animals and possibly even people that can tag along with you under certain restrictions (probably HP for animals and for set areas for people). The only reason I say this is that building a partner AI like Wolf Link's and only using it in one place that's locked behind what's eccentrically DLC would be a waste of resources.

That is also pretty likely. I mean, Zelda games have had partners before.

There are a few drawbacks to summoning Wolfy as well, apparently:

"I found a small group of bat-faced Bokoblin holed in a skull-like rock formation, just like in this picture. It's possible to sneak up on enemies and stealth-strike them for extra damage, which would have been a wise idea, but instead I decided this was the perfect opportunity to try summoning Wolf Link for the first time using his amiibo. Not two seconds after I brought him into this world, the dang dog howled. After alerting the whole group, he proceeded to run laps as I did most of the fighting myself."
